If you’ve ever even REMOTELY paid attention to the Yankees in recent years, you would understand that this quick two game series in Tampa Bay ahead of a four game set back home with the Boston Red Sox (who the Yankees are currently tied with for the top Wild Card seed, along with the Seattle Mariners) is the ULTIMATE trap series.
There is NO way these dummies aren’t looking past the Rays, who aren’t even that bad of a team. Anywhere around .500 means you’re a mediocre team, not a BAD one, and mediocre can win over a good team ANY DAY of the week. Heck, the Rockies are TERRIBLE and they just beat the Dodgers.
So this is a big game. This whole two-game series is big. The Yankees are now “only” five games out of first place. They need to beat teams like the Rays, and they need to occasionally win on the road.
CAN they do it?
I doubt it. I’m going to assume Everson Pereira has a good game somehow.
Also, stupid Red Sox get an off day tomorrow, so they can skip Walker Buehler’s start against the Yankees. Awesome.
Facing a guy with a 5 ERA. Uh oh,
Delayed.
Jazz batting 7th.
Boone said his earlier comments about Judge throwing may have been overstated.
Greg Joyce “I don’t know why he said that,” Judge said of Boone initially saying he wouldn’t be back to 100 pct throwing this season.
“He hasn’t seen me thrown the past two weeks. I’m pretty confident I’ll get back to that.”
What in the FUCK?! That’s so, so fucking weird, right?
Stupid Red Sox up 1-0 on a fucking two-out BALK.
Looks like it may rain until ~9PM.
Alex Cora does NOT fuck around, lifting Buehler with two on and no outs in the fifth of a 1-0 game.
Justin Wilson and Aroldis Chapman BOTH being lights out relievers for the Red Sox in the year of our lord 2025 is so aggravating.
Chapman is not shocking
Yeah, I was willing to live with HIM being good. Him AND Wilson is what’s too much for me.
Not tonight he wasn’t
Yeah, that nice. Of course, the Orioles just brought in a guy in the 8th inning who promptly loaded the bases on nine pitches with no outs.
Approximate start time of 9:30
Fun way to spend the evening in Tampa.
Judge said to shut the fuck up about his barrel rate.
Bellinger ALSO said to shut the fuck up about Judge’s barrel rate.
Stanton ALSO said to shut the fuck up about Judge’s barrel rate.
Two no brainers
Lol. Lmao, even.
And a cheapie. Gianni should throw that one back.
Kay not saying “Back-to-back, and Belly to Belli” when Bellinger hit the home run is a fireable offense.
Rice and Grisham should feel embarrassed.
Ben Rice sucks. Wells needs to play every day.
Baz, I assume, “I don’t know what you guys are concerned about, I just struck out the side in the first inning!”
Yankee legend, Rico Garcia, just entered in the 8th inning with the bases loaded and no outs, and promptly struck out the next three Red Sox batters.
Mariners lost. So, well, you know, come the fuck on, Rodon.
Leadoff walk in 3…2….
O/U Yankee runs rest of the game 0.5
Sucker’s bet.
Not a walk, but leadoff single is almost as bad.
Houston/Detroit was the opposite of the Gray/Fried matchup, an ACTUAL pitcher’s duel, scoreless to the bottom of the 9th!
Easiest double play ever
0-2 count, time for Rodon to start fucking around!
Caminero swung at Ball 4, walked on Ball 5.
Rodon really is just the dumbest piece of shit around, huh?
AlwaysHasBeen.gif
Thanks Jazz
GO TO THE MOUND, BLAKE!
How do you not go to the mound when the guy throws NINE STRAIGHT PITCHES way out of the strike zone!?
That 3-1 pitch was scary as fuck.
And yes, as bop notes, the inning SHOULD be over now.
New Red Sox, Nathaniel Lowe, just ties it in the ninth against Yaramil fucking Hiraldo with a two-run shot. No outs, so the Red Sox have plenty of time to win it off of this scrub.
Rodon and his 20 pitch inning, surprised it wasn’t worse.
It really is shocking that it wasn’t worse.
The New York Yankees of Tampa Bay should play full-time in this stadium.
Boone has fallen love with Caballero. That’s gonna come back to bites us.
Not tonight.
Better than Volpe
More runs? Wow. They are creaming a pitcher they should cream. Nice.
Prooooobably should just find a way to keep Caballero in the lineup.
Orioles, after giving up two runs to start the ninth, have now loaded the bases on three straight walks with two outs. Story to try to walk it off against, SOMEHOW, the same pitcher!
I assume Caballero plays right field tomorrow night.
Now Chapman in to shut them down 1-2-3 in the tenth so that the Red Sox can walk it off against whatever no-name scrub the O’s have in their pen.
Chapman strikes out the side. I honestly can’t even complain too much about that one. It was too much to expect the Orioles to take BOTH of those games, ya know?
Rodon sucks so much that he’s giving up hits to Everson Pereira!
Hah! NOW the Orioles bring their closer into the game, not when he could have saved the game in the 9th. No sir.
Seattle now behind us in the standings?
If season ends today we play Boston in a 3 game playoff in Fenway? Ugh.
It seems impossible for Rodon to suck this much, and yet…
They give him a 5-run lead, and he just fucks around. It’s maddening.
How does Rodon just NOT know how to pitch?!
You owe Rodon a FEW pitches, so good for you, Jazz, getting him back a run.
Baz has to be tipping, right?
Any time you need 49 pitches to get seven outs, you gotta be happy!
Every time phenom has a decent week or two he just disappears. 167/536 last 14 days, 125/551 last 7 before tonight. Back under 700.
Maybe the Yankees should’ve brought up a long man to save the pen for Boston. Why didn’t they?
Stupidity. But seriously, though, I think Yerry could go a few innings tonight.
Cruz struck out the side at AA tonight.
Okay, that Red Sox loss was hilarious.
Rodon proof?
Sadly, I don’t think it is. I DO think it’s PROBABLY Rodon/Yerry-proof, as Boone will go to Yerry quickly if need be, I think.
Even the O’s can win in extra innings on the road.
For well over an hour MLB still has the Ohtani HR on top of the page, not Stanton with his two blasts.
They finally changed it and have Judges HR there now.
Stanton 308/1011, his best year since 2017. I heard he’s been seeing Big Jamba’s nutritional therapist.
You’d think that would help with his lower body!
A 12-pitch inning, nice. Now do it again, Rodon.
Volpe is a high 600, low 700 OPS guy, that’s about it.
Volpe hasn’t had a year over 700 yet.
Okay, guys, how about doing this against Boston, too!
Twelve runs, all off HR’s.
Yerry earning a trip to Scranton
They still need a long man, so I think he’s set until Yarbrough returns.
Cruz had his third and only good outing tonight . He should be ready soon.
Cruz goes into the open slot from Headrick’s IL stint. So Yerry still has a job until Yarbrough is back.
Fangraphs: Juan Soto’s Defense Is Quickly Declining
PA: This is an interesting article that combines his (declining) speed on the bases with defensive metrics. His jump on balls hit to right has also declined.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/juan-sotos-defense-is-quickly-declining/
Katie S This is 2nd time in franchise history the Yankees have had 3 players with 2+ HR in a game.
It also happened May 30, 1961 (Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Bill Skowron)
Wow. The first game in ages it actually FEELS like they really won.
Please, sir, may I have some more?
Just about
I regret to inform you that the Yankees drafted a Nazi
Psh. Yankee Nazis. I *HATE* Yankee Nazis.
I won’t defend his actions, but his post-incident actions have been impressive. Kids fuck up when drinking. Not that I did similar things as a 17-24 yo, but I’m certainly glad that there weren’t social media sites and ubiquitous cameras when I was that age.
Spencer home run off Alex Manoah

Yarbrough 3ip 2r 3h 3k
BBRef hasn’t updated from yesterday yet. I suspect that they’re still tallying up Yankee homeruns.
All 13 runs off HRs.
Schwarber with #45. Three people at 44 or higher, Judge at 40, potential for 4 guys to hit 50 HRs.
Astros, Mariners, and Blue Jays all lost.
Allan Winans will join the #Yankees tonight in Tampa. Brent Headrick went on the injured list yesterday.
Could be for just one day with Cruz returning tomorrow.
ESPN new top 100 prospects. Lombard 45, Schlittler 69, Spencer 81.
