  1. Once Judge is back playing the outfield, does it make any sense to try some roster manipulation shenanigans with Dominguez, and send him down to try to push back his arbitration-eligibility by a year by pushing him out of the Super 2s?

  2. Rodon is such a fucking headcase. When he thinks the other team isn’t that good, he pitches SO MUCH BETTER, as he isn’t dicking around with them like he does with the good-hitting teams. If he used this approach with, say, Toronto or Boston, he would do so much better, but he’s a fucking headcase, so it doesn’t work.

  3. Another one of these FUCKING GAMES. It just seems like they sleepwalk through some or all of most games recently. Now even against right handed pitchers also. And the first pitch swinging is out of hand. Wells down to 211/697. Last 30 PAs Jazz has 6 hits, none for xtra bases and 12 Ks.

    1. Wells and Volpe definitely did sleepwalk, and Jazz had some bad swings, but I think the other batters took good approaches, Junk just pitched well. Until he didn’t pitch as well this inning.

    1. That’s why he is so good in the playoffs, because nothing he does makes any fucking sense.

He can hit a home run off of Justin Verlander, and can strike out against Brooks Kriske.

So the pressure of the playoffs doesn’t get to him, because he never makes any sense.

    1. He’s being waaaaaaaaaaaay too cute. He keeps trying to “steal” strikes with balls just off of the plate. THEY’RE NOT CALLING THEM, DUDE! STOP IT!

  4. “Their catcher can’t throw anyone out, so Volpe should be running here.” Gee, I wonder if Wells will take a pitch to let Volpe steal, or will he just pop up on the first fucking pitch like an idiot? I wonder…

    1. You’re right but why can’t Boone say something? Wells hits directly behind Volpe. Why wasn’t Wells prepared in advance?

    1. And you can’t be too confident in Lo getting out of this, either.

I get the problem, in that Weaver and Williams are unavailable tonight, so the plan is probably Doval in the 8th and Bednar in the 9th. But it’s annoying to have this improved bullpen, and still needing to use Lo here.

    1. Like a Yankees 2025 bullpen guy, so he fits right in.

This is going to be the worst loss of 2025.

  5. In July Bird with a 19.89 era and an OPS of 1354. Why could Cash have possibly seen? It’s not like he had a high 4 or 5 era. People compare him to Holmes who had a 4.9 era when they got him. Getting Bird was impcomprehensible.

    1. They blew a 6-0 lead with Gerrit Cole on the mound against the Rays. That one was insane.

There was also that one heading into the All-Star break in…2021, I think? Where they were up five runs heading into the bottom of the ninth, and the Astros scored six to win.

    2. They also had a weird one against the Angels, right? Where they scored seven runs in the first inning, then allowed seven runs in the ninth to lose it.

  6. Can we fire Boone and Cashman now? What could Cashman possibly have seen to acquire a guy that batters are hitting 454/1354 against for the month? And Boon totally mismanaged this game.

    1. I don’t mind sending him down to work on stuff, but if Blake is the guy you want working with him, I can see why you’d want him to do it here. Just don’t throw him out there right away.

    1. With a short bullpen, he is using it all VERY oddly. Like why not two innings from Headrick?

But yes, there also should have been a MUCH quicker hook with Bird.

    1. They have? They blew a six run lead. A 5 run lead. And a 2 run lead in the 9th. The pen gave up 9 runs and allowed another two inherited runners to score. This was Dominican league rookie baseball. Boone should be pulled Rodon earlier. Bird shouldnt have been acquired but he certainly should not have been allowed to pitch to Stowers.

    2. They were up a game on the Blue Jays in the division, fell behind 8-0, came back to tie it, and then their closer blew it. That was just as bad of a loss just a month ago.

  7. History will remember Camilo Doval’s greatest contribution to the Yankees as the 4 runs he allowed in the top of the 9th inning on June 2, 2024, including a go-ahead HR by Juan Soto.

(It really was a pretty sweet comeback to see in person.)

    1. I didn’t know that, but that’s not generally a good sign. The Bird trade made no sense. Just because Blake helped a mediocre pitcher get better doesn’t mean he can help baseball’s worst pitcher get better.

  8. I give all new pitchers a BIT of a mulligan just due to nerves.

On top of that, I can give Bednar a pass for apparently just sucking in Miami period, and I give Doval a bit of a pass because he’s not supposed to be closing here. He was here to be better than Ian Hamilton, and I think we all would have expected Hamilton to have blown it there, too, right?

This was a weird game with Hill, Weaver, and Williams all not available.

However, no passes for Bird. Either send him down to work on his shit, or make him the last man in the bullpen while you work on his shit.

  9. First impressions aren’t everything, and there’s still 2 months left; but there really isn’t anything encouraging about 7 ER in 2 1/3 innings plus the 2 unearned runs from Caballero’s decisive error.

DFA everyone. Including Cashman and Boone.

  10. I’m truly not even that mad at Bednar. He had some bad luck, and should have only allowed a single run.

    And he went at guys.

I’m very mad at all the walks, especially since Rodon knew the bullpen was short tonight.

The walk to Hicks by Bird was insane, and the walk by Doval to the #9 hitter to put the tying runs aboard was absurdly bad.

  11. Katie S This is the 1st time the Yankees lost a 9-inning game with 15+ Hits AND 12+ Runs since July 24, 1940 at St. Louis Browns.

Yankees Last 2 Games in Miami:

    8/1/2025 – Lead 6-0 in 5th, lose 13-12 (Marlins score 3 in bottom 9th)
    8/13/2023 – Lead 7-1 in 6th, lose 8-7 (Marlins score 5 in bottom 9th)

This is the 1st time the Yankees have lost a 9-inning game when scoring 12+ runs since August 12, 1973 vs Oakland

  12. There’s no stats on this but I guarantee a GM has never had a worse game than Brian Cashman did tonight. This was like if Ohtani had five home runs and pitched a perfect game.
