There is one very thin chance for them to win this one, which is for Gerrit Cole to not suck. He and McLanahan have had a number of interesting matchups over the years where each one of them got their ass kicked. I recall a game Cole gave up six early runs, and the Yankees came back to win, and similarly, a game where McLanahan gave up six early runs, and the RAYS came back to win (and they MIGHT have both been against each other in those games). So, hey, crazier things have happened, but we all know they won’t.
It’ll be either Cole sucks and the Yankees lose easily, or Cole is good, and they lose 1-0 when Camilo Doval is used (because it was his lane).
We play today we keep the K’s coming, dassit.
PGold 0/31 8 straight Ks.
Three games in a row like that – has it ever been done? We could be on the cusp of greatness.
Yankees from 95-98% to make the playoffs. I’m shorting them.
Up in the zone? I thought that barely caught the BOTTOM of the zone!
I wonder if the Yankees should look into a legit GOOD righthanded bench bat, instead of just “Better than our shitty lefties” good like Rosario.
As Rosario has been in a FREEFALL since May.
Then again, to be fair, EVERYONE has sucked.
I guess what they really should do is just sit Goldy on the bench until the playoffs. He barely played to start this season, and then was awesome. And now, he can’t even make fucking CONTACT. His age might be catching up with him.
How odd, that always works.
Always.
Right?
Fucking brutal, Schuemann.
And then Wells, well, I mean, come on, that was just expected.
Part of success is training, part is knowing your abilitites.
If you want to be doing that all the time, first LEARN TO FUCKING DO THAT.
If you HAVEN’T learned to do that, you have to know NOT TO FUCKING DO THAT.
Pick one and go with it, doofuses.
Nice call Boone. Nice bunt Schumann-right to the pitcher. I guess Boone didn’t want Wells up with men on base.
Who the fuck calls a safety squeeze in the second inning and why the fuck is Wells starting vs a LHP, BA 103, OPS 344.
It’s CRAZY. If you can’t trust Schuemann to even hit a sac fly, WHY THE FUCK IS HE STARTING IN THE OUTFIELD?!
Schumann is Boone’s new crush. John Sterling would love Schumann. He’s a career 79 OPS+ over 600+ at bats.
It sure does appear that way. The best way to handle shit like that is to just take away the option. Bring back Jones. Grisham can certainly hit fucking seventh against a lefty. It’s absurd to NOT just let him do that.
On this squad it’s hard for me to imagine sitting Grisham or Jazz almost ever. And yeah Spencer over Schumann.
Please do not let Chandler Simpson on first base distract you, Cole. Just get these next two outs.
Phew, he just buckled down and got the outs.
“It’s CRAZY. If you can’t trust Schuemann to even hit a sac fly, WHY THE FUCK IS HE STARTING IN THE OUTFIELD?!”
You don’t get it. That’s Boone showing you that’s he’s MANAGING, man!
This team is brutal and its ineptitude is complicated by the inept manager.
Goldschmidt having this slump last year would have been rough. But he’d just been not okay, but crazy good for a good long time. How do you go from THAT to THAT (I mean, unless you’re Stanton).
The whole team has been like that! Think about it, Belli is literally an ALL STAR while he hasn’t hit for WEEKS. In other words, he was so good BEFORE that point that he was a freakin’ ALL STAR!
2 Ks through 3 innings isn’t going to set any records.
Yeah, they need to buckle down.
Thank goodness they were sure to get their 50 year old star pitcher back on to the mound as soon as possible.
That was a nice throw,
Throwing home there was stoopit
Missed the cutoff guy. The team also makes a lot of mental mistakes. Who’s that on?
When your team can’t hit you don’t get to insist that your preferred catcher who is hitting 103 against LHPs gets the start against a tough lefty,
See, that’s where you’re clearly wrong.
Schumann is Jayson Nix part 2. He played in 160 games for the Yankees in 2012/2013.
This team is just so poorly constructed it’s painful to watch.
And now the Yanks must soldier on without Boones tactical brilliance.
Now they have a chance!
The batter has struck out 8 of his last 9 ABs. Do you send the runner?
Gotta let Dominguez hit, then pinch hit for Schuemann definitely, and possibly Volpe.
Volpe actually looked good… right until he struck out on a pitch in the dirt. FUCK.
Fuck these fucking losers so hard. Weak first pitch swings by both Belli and Grisham.
Sulser with a 5.73 era says who do you think I am Camillo Doval? Right handers hitting 400 against Sulser, phenom says I didn’t catch that number.
They don’t just suck. They suck boringly.
Isn’t it called the All Star game becausee it’s a game where the teams are composed of all stars/ So shouldn’t each player be – a star, not an “all star”?
Also, you park in a driveway but drive on a parkway.
Not me.
See, Belli, Yandy is an All Star who actually can get a hit against a good pitcher. Maybe you can try that.
At the very least, the VERY least, they need to send Wells down. Escarra sucks, too, but there is at least a theoretical chance of him getting a hit.
Just make Sanchez the starter. He looks like he has at least the capability to put a good swing on a pitch. Escarra can back him up.
For sure. Escarra can hit 200. Wells not so much.
The thing is not a lot of this is a fluke. Sure they’re not this bad, but they’re bad. Bellinger is better than he’s been, though it wasn’t that long ago that he got release, Jazz should be better. Who else? phenom isn’t good, Cabby and Ahmed are bench role players.
The top of the 8th was stunning. 🤮
Wells was over 200 OPS points better last year than this year.
.718 in 2024
.712 in 2025
.475 (before tonight) in 2026
The Yankees projected very well this season. This is very much NOT normal for them to be this bad.
It’s cheap to chant “Yankees suck,” when they suck.
Suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.
No walks back to back games. How often does that happen?
i barely listened bc volpe started but wells should be in the minors and rosario should never bat against a righty. where was mcmahon? is anyone steering the ship? how many swoon years in a row?
At least they didn’t strike out 17 times tonight
Progress!
Wells needs to be replaced by Escarra, Jazz and Grisham need to play every day. Not that that will help.
Rice is the the only major leaguer on this team. I’m sure one of our infielders could catch on as a reserve on a good team.
This is the team that Cashman built.
something about wells and water falling out of a boat, being wet, etc.
Never seen anyone so lost at the plate as Wells has been all year, 148/468.
Wells is below the Wells line.
Goldy 0-for-34. Batting leadoff.
Boone is an idiot.
The Yankees under Cashman are the only team that would keep running Wells out there. Cashman was past his prime a decade ago, but Hal is too lazy to do the work needed to find and hire a young up and coming GM.
What’s done is done for tonight, but Wells truly needs to be sent down. I get giving him a chance to a point. That point was passed a long time ago. Sanchez has an actual pulse. He sucks, but he clearly can just make basic swings.
Escarra is bad, too, but again, he has a SLIGHT pulse. Wells has nothing.
Below the Wells line means AAA here you come, But Cashman will likely wait until the AS break.
For years we complained that the Yankees didn’t give young guys a chance. Now they give them a chance, they have a few good months and they get a job for life. What’s wrong with sending Wells and Volpe to AAA to try to get back on track in a low pressure setting? MAYBE the underlying numbers say they are better than this, but to paraphrase Bill Parcells, at some point you are who the scoreboard says you are.
Volpe is different. He’s probably a positive player, all in. He’s just not THAT good.
Wells is one of the most historically bad hitters in baseball history. He HAS to be sent back to the minors.
The Yankees have promoted Henry Lalane to High A.
Boone saying he shouldn’t have let himself be thrown out like that mattered.
Alright! An early start Thursday, getting the embarrassing loss out of the way so we can enjoy the remains of the day.
Betances still alive close to the money out of 9500 entrants in WSOP Main Event
Toronto 6 1/2 out, townies 7 out. Rays 5 up on Yankees, (Yankees up 5 in Pythag)
What a nice, clean game.
No walks, no xbh, no runs… a few singles stood between them and perfection.
they are 9th in the league in runs per game, OPS, OPS+ but they are 19th in OBP, 5th from last in average, 3rd from last in strike outs, bottom half (i forget) in doubles. all they do well is hit HR (1st)
and BB (5th)
Losses are the Truest Outcome.
Cashman – a has been
Boone – a never was
Hal – in a coma.
Very depressing. Probably like being a Jet fan.
Listen, just before this swoon they had the best record in the (admittedly swooning) AL. And like the 4th best record in baseball, and was it 2nd in pythag?
It seems so odd to me that EVERYBODY fell off a cliff at once. And not just hitting, but defense and even pitching.
Very, very odd.
Very odd.
Odd.
Planetary misalignment?
Saharan dust storm?
NY sports gods saying “You only get good team at a time and now it’s the Knicks. Everyone else has to suck.”
A fish rots at the head first.
I have a conspiracy-theory-sounding explanation.
No stranger than the Giants having a giant hidden camera in the outfield, or deflated footballs, or the entire system for which the Astros were never punished.
at the beginning of the year, they were all overperforming at the same time. seems to happen every year. Start hot, early summer free fall.
They aren’t either of those teams. they are somewhere in the middle.
wells getting another start
You sound surprised.
WE’RE the only ones who’ve finally decided that Wells just can’t play in the majors anymore.
THEY have given no such sign. THEY are the same old idiots who [fill in the blank].
Why would we expect them to make roster changes reflecting the ideas of RLWY?
If only!
