In any event, somehow, Caballero is starting this game, as well. It would be nice if A. Will Warren showed up, and B. If the offense could avoid getting a perfect game thrown against them for multiple innings. Geez louise.

Wasn’t it just a month ago we were all saying this is the team that’s more for real than last years and all that? With a pitching staff in the making to strike fear into any opponent?
I find it hard to believe every single hitter will continue to hit like shit, including their TWO All-Star representative who are both terrible right now. So I think they’ll be fine. The issue, of course, is if the Rays keep winning so much that it doesn’t matter.
brian, they may be fine. if they start hitting. if judge makes it back. but also, the difference between some of these guys is minimal. jones is a good defender and can hit. schuemann to this version of jazz isn’t a huge deal for a couple of months. they can reload and if the right deals come up to improve at the same time, grab them.
unfortunately it’s cashman and co with their horrendous trade deadline acumen over the last few years pulling the strings.
I don’t even remotely get this position. There’s not much of a difference between Grisham and Jazz and Jones and Schuemann (I totally disagree with that already, but let’s buy into the notion), but you can then somehow get some great return for them? How does that make any sense?
Brian, it’s just the all star break. Even if the Rays win a lot, of course it matters, they can be better than the Rays.
And the Rays have been crazy streaky. They’re barely ahead of the Yankees even WITH this whole miserable, pathetic month.
So we’re MONTHS away from any statement that ends with “it doesn’t matter.”
what is there not to understand? it’s more a question if someone else values jazz or grish more than i do. obviously the yankees thought jazz was worth acquiring last year and that grisham was worth resigning on the flyer.
neither are going to be signed again. maybe someone needs them more than they are needed in the bronx.
i think the yanks are the last team that values three true outcome guys over putting the ball in play. it’s an opportunity to get more balanced and improve for the future.
trent hit .150 and jazz hit .200 last postseason after much better years than this one.

How in the world would replacing Grisham with Jones IMPROVE their three true outcome approach? Jones is striking out 40% of his time!
Max Schuemann hit .190 last year, and is hitting .214 right now. How in the world is he in any way a reasonable replacement for Jazz?
Be angry at the recent losing, but criticizing their “horrendous trade deadline acumen” when you’re coming up with these alternate ideas is weird.

He’s arguing, first of all, that the Yankees are behind the curve in focusing on the true outcomes. That they should wake up and focus on putting the ball in play more.
And he’s not arguing for Schuemann, he’s arguing for a trade, IF there’s one out there to be had. That they should be focused on looking to trade these guys IF there’s even one team that turns out to value them more than the Yankees SHOULD be valuing them.
And that’s NOT Spencer Jones. Trent Grisham is much LESS of a “three true outcome” player than Spencer Jones.

jones was actually putting the ball in play in his last stint and changing his approach quite a bit with men on.
it no one wants jazz or trent it is yet another indictment of cashman. it’s one thing to not be able to put a deal together, but if no one calls on a guy you gave 22M to on an expiring deal and another you just traded for (also an expiring deal), then you might be a bozo.
Maybe Warren can pitch like it matters?

The problem is much simpler than that. Warren is not very good, a so so #5 at best.
I don’t disagree that Warren is ideally the #5 starter. Injuries have just forced him to be a bigger part of the team.

Yankees are in big trouble. They’re not hitting. Rodon is hurt. Warren and Weathers are unreliable at best. The pen needs help. Fried’s still a couple of months away. Judge doesn’t even have a date for more imaging. Austin Wells is a statistical anomaly. This team could easy miss the playoffs.
One of the easiest fixes is to send Doval down. Just removing him from the team helps them a lot.

Like, a BAD start by Warren (four runs in five innings) would have led to a whole different game.
Instead, he just pitched about as poorly as possible. His game plan was horrendous, and then he failed miserably at executing his insanely bad game plan. Just TERRIBLE.
When you are at 47 pitches through 2-innings bad things are sure to follow, and he put them in an early 2-0 hole.

The 3 best middle infielder prospect are all on the IL. Three of the top 4 prospects are on the IL. Lombard got hurt just after really heating and no word on when he’ll be back. Kilby after not playing until the end of May, played two innings and went back on the IL. Lagrange can’t throw until at least 6 weeks.
