  7. It truly is remarkable that they’re getting perfect games thrown against them every fucking game now in this stretch.

    People are comparing this to 2023, but this is much crazier, as they were fine until, like, 10 days ago, and then suddenly every hitter stopped hitting, and every pitcher started sucking (plus they had the Rodon injury).

    This is just inexplicable shit.

    1. Fire the entire hitting staff. We all know Cashman won’t fire Boone during the season.

    2. And it’s been not just the hitting, it’s also been the fielding, and to an extent the pitching. How can EVERYTHING go to shit in an instant? Seriously, that doesn’t seem likely. If there’s a reason, it would have to be something that happened to them all together.

    4. Norovirus does have a way of making everything go to shit, or at least everything that hasn’t already gone to vomit.

  16. Yankees starters have been TERRIBLE responding after the hitters actually did something (plus, of course, Cruz’s insane relief outing against Boston), so let’s see how Schlittler responds here.

    1. When Girardi mentioned he had a 10.15 ERA in his last 16 outings, I thought, “Good game for him to fix that!”

      Seriously, though, Grisham and Rice both hit him hard. Just right at guys.

    1. On all other nights we do not pimp even once. Why on this night do we pimp twice?

  30. They really need a guy like Cabby. What the business-oriented Yanks FO doesn’t usually go for.
    On the other hand, Schlittler fits in with that approach, the best that approach can offer.

    1. Sure, Escarra is top-10 in the league, but why call him up when you have superstar Ali Sanchez? Neither of them should be starting, but either one could be a better BUC than Wells.
      Move Rice to C, Bellinger to 1B, Grisham to LF, call Jones back up to play CF.
      Give Goldy an IL stint so he has a chance to recharge. Between him, Stanton, and Judge, hopefully there will be at least one healthy veteran RHB in the lineup by the wild card game.

    Anyway a message for the idiot Yankee manager – they’re not saying “Boone”, they are in fact boo-ing you because you are an idiot.

  42. This game, in the long run, was really about one thing: Schlittler showing he’s for real.
    That was huge.
    I also admit that I do believe in clutch – that is, I don’t believe that the REPEATED clutchness of Gibson and Leyritz, etc., is illusory (statistically non-existent). And it corresponds to certain personality types, as it seems to me. You need some of that on a team. Volpe is the kind of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, clean cut, smiling eager young’un you’d want in your corporate office. Cabby might save this team in a key late-and-close moment.

    1. I personally don’t believe in clutch, though to be fair, clutch also doesn’t believe in me.

      I definitely believe in un-clutch, and agree that it correlates with certain personality types, particularly the anxious, people-pleasing golden-boy types like Volpe and circa-2004 A-Rod.

  45. In all fairness and I’m not defending phenom but Caballero has the same career OPS as phenom and before last night he wasn’t hitting. The first two months of 2024 Volpe hit ~280/790 and it seemed like he was a keeper.

    1. Agree. The reason to play Caballero over Volpe at shortstop every day is not their offense, it’s that Caballero can still play shortstop and Volpe can’t anymore.
