Yet another lefty that will dominate the Yankees’ lineup…
Rice seems to be doing better against them, so – don’t play him.
Boone’s brain is like some kind of perverse reverse divining rod.
Hard not to love Goldie, isn’t it?
Grisham, however, is in full pumpkin mode.
Take what you’ve got out of him and be thrilled – it’s time to play him a LOT less.
Which, of course, Boone absolutely, definitely won’t – he’ll wait until Grisham gives back all he’s already given them, and more.
Boone will notice, probably around July 1st.
True baby behavior to IBB Judge in the 1st inning. Kikuchi should punch Ron Washington.
Well, given the home run tear Judge has been on… wait…
Didn’t put in a defensive replacement for Cruz in a deciding WS game so it only stands to reason that big brained Ron Washington would be conceding early inning runs with his ace on the mound 15 years later.
Damn, that was well hit by Volpe, could have been more.
Le out machine.
Jesus CHRIST Lemahieu
how much would the glue factory give for him
DFA DJ.
I presume this was written the better part of a year ago.
I’d sooner let Peraza do his best than watch David John and shift Jazz to 3rd. Peraza can field the position and he can hit .180 just as convincingly as DJ.
And if he did better than that, which is certainly conceivable, he creates value going forward.
He doesn’t have much of an approach at the plate, though I admire his hard, wild swings. But he’s at least more limber than Peg Leg LeMahieu.
That’s the point. If there’s one thing a young player can acquire, it’s an approach at the plate.
Moan Yoncada
Judge is going to have some OBP if they keep this up.
You thought he’d make sure the 3-0 pitch would be a strike, he JUST caught the corner.
Six LOB after two.
Classic!
We bag on DJ and Boone a lot, but imagine rooting for a team that sees that Chris Taylor has been released…and decides that he should be an everyday player.
that dead cat bounce, I guess
DJ is a dead cat without an iota bounce anywhere in him.
You have to say Jasson working a walk is a potentially good sign
POTENTIALLY
He draws walks right handed.
glue
If I didn’t know the Yankees, I’d be thinking this might be on track for a LOB record.
This is a special team
It takes a special team to have 9 men on base through THREE INNINGS and score one run
This is a crazy annoying game. The Yankees are allergic to scoring any runs, and Clarke Schmidt believes that he has to throw 25 pitches every inning.
I’m actually more irked at the Schmidt stuff than the runs. The runs is more bad luck than anything. The Schmidt stuff is his overall approach.
And against a soft line-up.
They’re all heading to the good strip clubs in LA later, got to get a move on I guess
DJ 194/534
If the internet is to be believed the LOB record is 16. They can do it
DFA DJ. And Cashman actually thought that after 2021-2024, DJ had anything to offer? Other than outs for the opposition, that is.
Apparently, Cashman was going to DFA him last season when they activated Berti, but Judge asked him not to. Then they gave him a shot again this season.
That is so not Judge’s job.
Judge wanted Verdugo.
Moncada ran hard on that ground ball.
The Yankees left 20 runners on base in a 1956 game against the Red Sox. That is the MLB record.
Thanks. Google is for shit these days. 9 inning game though?
Seriously, they’re going to move Jazz to 3rd because there’s just soooo much value in keeping DJLM as an everyday player. They just suck.
Safe.
I love how they’re talking as if DJ has sealed the deal as an everyday player. The only reason I can’t get that upset is how bad the other guys are. I’m assuming at some point Cash will find a replacement level 3b, then we’ll see what happens.
The others are young guys who could turn it around. There’s a reason to give them a chance.
I wonder what Judge’s numbers look like over the past 2-3 weeks – or maybe the right span is since that fall against the wall I wasn’t worried about?
Last 14 days 1112 OPS
Wow. Perception and reality.
Jeeez, umpires suck as badly as DJLM.
Volpe walked.
Why does the waitress in the WB Mason ad have a Boston accent?
No one’s accent makes any sense in that ad.
Oh Kay. I like Jorge but no.
What did he say?
wants him in the HOF.
If not for his defense, maaaybe.
This is probably the best worst pitching performance by a Yankee pitcher this season.
He somehow kept the pitch count down enough to get to this stage. Again, if this is a bad start for him, he’s pretty damned good.
That’s the rub with SO many Yankees. They’re headcases who are so fucking talented that they can still succeed.
So this would be a good time, Aaron.
JUDGE SLUMP
Seriously though Judge playing junior GM is baaaaaad.
DJ “not quite as bad as Chris Taylor” LeMahieu
Hamilton would make a great mob goon in a 1940s noir film.
Emil Bove
Seriously I bet you could get the Rox to trade for DJ, might not even need to give them salary relief
unfortunately he’s got 10/5
Holy shit, Hamilton, you don’t have to emulate Schmidt with the pitch count!
You know Schmidt actually pitched pretty well. (touching wood) the rotation has been a strength
Gerrit Cole who?
istg if Williams comes in with a one run lead
Don’t take this amiss, but shut up!
I wouldn’t mind getting him back on the horse in his “official” role.
I would prefer Williams’ role to be “on another team”
I think Williams is going to be very good, but I’m not throwing him into this situation at this point in his season.
In “I’m rubber, you’re glue,” DJ is pure glue, and they just can’t see it.
(Rubber might have a bounce in it somewhere.)
DJ 184/507
Keeping Hamilton in was the LEAST palatable way to go. I legit don’t know what Boone was thinking.
They really could have gotten 2 there.
Christ even Taylor is better than DJ
And now Tim fucking Hill?! Why is Boone using the bottom of the barrel? They have an off day tomorrow!
I regret to inform you that it worked out
I’m happy it worked out, but what the fuck is he doing?!
This does feel extremely overdetermined though
Will they DFA DJ and let Colorado pick him up or will they give DJ the courtesy of a trade to Colorado with every dollar of his salary covered?
I am not unworried about this game.
OK now Boone has gone insane
What happened? Did he do something that makes sense?
My girl made me a Boone voodoo doll for Christmas.
It’s getting a LOT of use, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I mean…maybe you have decisions to make
It’s BAFFLING that Weaver isn’t available.
hurt maybe
They wanted to give him a few days and maybe IL Friday if he doesn’t recover
They said that upfront. He threw a lot of pitches Sunday and Monday.
They said something up front about putting Weaver on the IL?!
Walking Soler. Your prelude to a walkoff
He seemed very worried about Soler.
That didn’t just miss.
He has no fear getting the first and second strikes.
Huh
ok good
Wow.
The pitching staff has been amazing.
This umpire is bizarre. But hey, I’ll take the win!
That was a ball. Good job JC.
The Angels deserve every bad thing that happens to them for the Rally Monkey and the thundersticks.
Yay win.
Is it safe?
Leiter failed to throw a strike to the final batter

To accommodate a guy hitting .184/.244/.263, 44 wRC+ in 41 PA?

I think it’s less to keep LeMahieu happy, and more because they just don’t think LeMahieu can play a strong third base anymore. He’s obviously been excellent at second, but I don’t think they think he can handle third. Why else would they be playing Vivas there when it’s LeMahieu and Vivas in the lineup? Vivas is way too short to be a third baseman, but I think they don’t believe LeMahieu has the range at third anymore. So playing Jazz there is more a statement about Jazz’s ability to play third than LeMahieu getting deferential treatment.
By deferential treatment I mean being in the lineup at all. If he doesn’t start hitting by the time Jazz is back I’d cut DJ loose and play Peraza and Vivas at third until some replacement level 3b is available for cheap. Or maybe Jesus Rodríguez?
I mean, it’s been 41 plate appearances, right? Anytime you can raise your OPS by, like, 80 points via a single home run, it’s probably a bit too soon to judge things one way or the other. With that being said, I don’t think they like LeMahieu so much as they actively DON’T like the other guys.
Cashman is 100% trying to add a third baseman, though.
Kind of trending the wrong way. Since the 3 hit game in Colorado, where everyone hit, he’s 0/12 with 6 Ks. I’d give him another week not to be good but to at least show he can OPS ~650.
I wouldn’t want to commit to the guy, either, but I think they just don’t have ANY faith in Vivas or Peraza. So I think DJ’s just a placeholder until they make a move for a righthanded second baseman or third baseman. Maybe someone like Eugenio Suarez if the Diamondbacks fall out of it.
