  1. Rice seems to be doing better against them, so – don’t play him.
Boone’s brain is like some kind of perverse reverse divining rod.

  2. Grisham, however, is in full pumpkin mode.
Take what you’ve got out of him and be thrilled – it’s time to play him a LOT less.
Which, of course, Boone absolutely, definitely won’t – he’ll wait until Grisham gives back all he’s already given them, and more.

    1. Didn’t put in a defensive replacement for Cruz in a deciding WS game so it only stands to reason that big brained Ron Washington would be conceding early inning runs with his ace on the mound 15 years later.

  3. I’d sooner let Peraza do his best than watch David John and shift Jazz to 3rd. Peraza can field the position and he can hit .180 just as convincingly as DJ.

    1. And if he did better than that, which is certainly conceivable, he creates value going forward.

    2. He doesn’t have much of an approach at the plate, though I admire his hard, wild swings. But he’s at least more limber than Peg Leg LeMahieu.

    3. That’s the point. If there’s one thing a young player can acquire, it’s an approach at the plate.

  4. We bag on DJ and Boone a lot, but imagine rooting for a team that sees that Chris Taylor has been released…and decides that he should be an everyday player.

    1. I’m actually more irked at the Schmidt stuff than the runs. The runs is more bad luck than anything. The Schmidt stuff is his overall approach.

    1. Apparently, Cashman was going to DFA him last season when they activated Berti, but Judge asked him not to. Then they gave him a shot again this season.

  5. Seriously, they’re going to move Jazz to 3rd because there’s just soooo much value in keeping DJLM as an everyday player. They just suck.

  6. I love how they’re talking as if DJ has sealed the deal as an everyday player. The only reason I can’t get that upset is how bad the other guys are. I’m assuming at some point Cash will find a replacement level 3b, then we’ll see what happens.

    1. The others are young guys who could turn it around. There’s a reason to give them a chance.

  7. I wonder what Judge’s numbers look like over the past 2-3 weeks – or maybe the right span is since that fall against the wall I wasn’t worried about?

    1. He somehow kept the pitch count down enough to get to this stage. Again, if this is a bad start for him, he’s pretty damned good.

    1. I think Williams is going to be very good, but I’m not throwing him into this situation at this point in his season.

  8. In “I’m rubber, you’re glue,” DJ is pure glue, and they just can’t see it.
(Rubber might have a bounce in it somewhere.)

  9. Will they DFA DJ and let Colorado pick him up or will they give DJ the courtesy of a trade to Colorado with every dollar of his salary covered?

    1. My girl made me a Boone voodoo doll for Christmas.

It’s getting a LOT of use, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

    1. They wanted to give him a few days and maybe IL Friday if he doesn’t recover

    1. I think it’s less to keep LeMahieu happy, and more because they just don’t think LeMahieu can play a strong third base anymore. He’s obviously been excellent at second, but I don’t think they think he can handle third. Why else would they be playing Vivas there when it’s LeMahieu and Vivas in the lineup? Vivas is way too short to be a third baseman, but I think they don’t believe LeMahieu has the range at third anymore. So playing Jazz there is more a statement about Jazz’s ability to play third than LeMahieu getting deferential treatment.

    2. By deferential treatment I mean being in the lineup at all. If he doesn’t start hitting by the time Jazz is back I’d cut DJ loose and play Peraza and Vivas at third until some replacement level 3b is available for cheap. Or maybe Jesus Rodríguez?

    3. I mean, it’s been 41 plate appearances, right? Anytime you can raise your OPS by, like, 80 points via a single home run, it’s probably a bit too soon to judge things one way or the other. With that being said, I don’t think they like LeMahieu so much as they actively DON’T like the other guys.

Cashman is 100% trying to add a third baseman, though.

  10. Kind of trending the wrong way. Since the 3 hit game in Colorado, where everyone hit, he’s 0/12 with 6 Ks. I’d give him another week not to be good but to at least show he can OPS ~650.

    1. I wouldn’t want to commit to the guy, either, but I think they just don’t have ANY faith in Vivas or Peraza. So I think DJ’s just a placeholder until they make a move for a righthanded second baseman or third baseman. Maybe someone like Eugenio Suarez if the Diamondbacks fall out of it.
