The Yankees get so many righties in a row that there is no “good” time to sit Ben Rice, so I guess tonight is as good of a night as any for Rice to get a day off.
The Mariners have been hot, so this is a nice test for Fried.
The entire list: Eddie Cicotte, Happy Felsch, Chick Gandil, Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Swede Risberg, Buck Weaver and Lefty Williams; Joe Gedeon; Gene Paulette; Benny Kauff; Lee Magee; Phil Douglas; Cozy Dolan; Jimmy O’Connell; William Cox; and Pete Rose.
Happy Felsch and Cozy Dolan should be admitted.
Put Arnold Rothstein in the Hall!
And yet the Astros – intentional, systematic violators of both rules and the essential nature of the contest – are not on the list.
How is that possible?
because the players have a union
The union should be the first to condemn that.
Then again, the decent police should be the first to condemn bad cops, and that doesn’t happen, either.
All Astros Are Bastards.

5 pitch inning
Don’t look now, but Belli’s OPS+ is approaching 100.
Can he play third?
(Never mind that he’s left handed.)
Hey Commish, what’s the current over/under on Number of Men Out?
U0.5 (-10000000)
Belli now on a 9 game hitting streak. Would be nice if he puts up a season as good as last year which isn’t asking for much.
That ball was way out of the zone and just curved wayer outer the zone.
Weird that Judge swung at it.
Well, they’re not hitting Woo, but at least they’re not making him work, either.
What the hell kind of route was that?
Grisham’s not himself in the outfield anymore.
Grisham’s having a few problems in the outfield.
Yankee noodle bat day.
Wild townie game each team scores in the 10th, townie’s get 2 in the 11th, Tigers come back with 3 off old friend Greg Weissert.
Fried is so good that even when he doesn’t have good enough stuff to put Donovan fucking Solano away, he STILL gets out of it.
Bosox got 2 in the top of the 11th, Tigers got 3 in the bottom of the 11th.
Yankee Noodle Dandy bats.
Really unfortunate that the one night they don’t hit is the one night when Fried gives up a run.
It’s absurd how little run support he’s gotten from them recently. He’s your fucking ace, SUPPORT HIM.
The results aren’t there, but man, Vivas has some really good looking at-bats.
Vivas not exactly acing his audition. Then again his competition is Reyes.
These games don’t surprise me. What surprises me is how many five run innings and double digit games we’ve had.
Just get at least ONE run this inning so Fried isn’t the hard luck loser.
Oh, so it’s a game where the Yankees outfield can’t make catches, but the other team can, huh?
Good job making sure that Woo can also pitch the 8th and give the ball directly to Munoz!
Bringing in a reliever is doing the Yankees a big favor.
Will we see DJ for Vivas?
That’s why they brought in a reliever
Maybe they should’ve used Rice for Peraza and DJ for Vivas.
You know I would have. It’s kind of silly to NOT do it.
At least Judge gets another at-bat. I hate using Leiter here. The Yankees might score ONE run. They ain’t scoring multiple runs, and if Leiter allows tack-on runs, I’ll be so pissed.
Yankees are playing like a bunch of assholes
So succinct.
Vivas could have done that.
Is Grisham a base stealer?
seems Judge isn’t picking up the ball tonight
Judge has had some inexplicable swings tonight.
the Mariners are a good team so fair play, but getting shut out sucks
also Brian jinxed it by pointing out they are scoring 6 a game
I said they were a good test against Fried!
you know what you did
Munoz against Goldy, Wells, and Volpe is going to be even more embarrassing than Judge’s at-bat against Brash.
This makes no sense to me. Not that it’s going to matter.
The next out is going to come at home plate on the goddamned contact play, isn’t it?
I can’t take it…
I’m guessing PGold could’ve got to third. Now if they tie the game Reyes is in the lineup.
You are kidding me.
So close to being totally and royally screwed.
Amazing.
The announcer as if the Yankees did something rather than got lucky
Hey, at least Fried didn’t get the loss!
For a hitter friendly ump that was marginal.
The umpire tonight has been so awful, he’s like the other major league umpires.
Human umpires are a consistent embarrassment.
That wasn’t the worst call, but it was bad enough. And there have been a ton of bad calls this game.
Peraza made good contact. I wanted to see DJ.
Weaver for President.
Weaver for King!
(You know what I mean.)
A typical DJ start to the season by DJ.
jinx
DJ’s OPS now even lower than I expected.
But not by much.
welcome back, DJ, picking up right where you left off
Vargas isn’t THIS good. This is embarrassing.
Not to make excuses but could Waldo’s injury be in their heads?
Yes.
Strangely, though, only on offense.
I doubt it
look bop just because YOU’RE a cold unfeeling bastard…
Oh no Devin Williams sighting
DJLM Weak Hack King
Miles Mastrobuoni should be number 8 1/2
Unbelievable, Wells.
Usual Yankees BS in extra innings on the road.
Whatever.
You know the Yankees could have done this several innings ago
They made that look easy.
I would’ve preferred PGold leading off that inning rather than Reyes.
Katie S Yankees are 12-25 (.324) in road extra inning games since 2020.
That’s the worst record by any MLB team in that span.
Hill is not the LAST guy I’d use in an extra inning game, but he’s up there. He always gives up contact, so the runner would very likely move to third with less than two outs. However, to be fair to Boone, there really weren’t any other options, right?
Hamilton pitched the night before, De los Santos pitched two innings two days ago, and Matzek is worse than Hill.
So Hill was sadly the correct choice. This is really on the offense, not the relievers.
