  1. It’s shocking just how bad Stroman’s approach is. His stuff didn’t even seem terrible, he just was locating it terribly.

Part of it was that the ump wasn’t giving him some nice pitches JUST off of the plate, but still, fucking ADJUST, dick!

    1. They really should be batting Wells behind him if they want to give him any protection at all. Jazz can move to 6th and he and Volpe can be running guys at the 5 and 6 spots.

  2. Like that last pitch from Stroman. What the fuck was that pitch!?

He then followed it with the pitch he SHOULD have thrown on the previous pitch, and got a nice K.

I just don’t get how this dude locates his stuff. It feels like he’s grasping out there.

And his stuff has looked GOOD! He SHOULD be able to do well today with the stuff he’s been showing so far!

    1. I know exactly which one you mean. It was all out of order. My thought was the third (bad) pitch would have been a fine waste pitch on 1-2. Instead he threw it 2-2, then had to come back into the zone anyway. it felt weird.

    1. Perpetually at risk for spontaneous combustion and/or rapid unplanned disassembly?

  3. Last year, especially in the second half, there were so many games where it was clear Stroman didn’t have any stuff, so it made sense he was getting his ass kicked. That sucks, but you can understand it. I’ll never understand guys getting beat with good stuff, though.

    1. Only possible counterexample I can think of: Barry Bonds with the score tied in the bottom of the 9th.

  4. Stroman wasn’t GOOD, but he was okay. Slightly better location and I think he’d have only given up two runs, and would probably have gotten through five. He’s clearly not an above average pitcher, but he’s not that bad.

Nice fucking job by Tim Hill against a really good hitter in Yellich!

    1. Orlando Cabrera was an almost-league-average player for a long time. He’s 50 years old now, but maybe he’s worth a look considering the current 3B situation.

    1. To be fair, it’s a lot easier when you have someone as fast as Jazz doing it. He’s practically at the plate by the time they got to the ball.

    1. Their logic of not wanting him to make any terrible big play while at home, and just getting him through these six games makes SOME sense. But yeah, I don’t like it.

  5. Man, how did Goldy suck so much in the first half last year? He always seemed like such a smart, professional hitter. He’s the kind of guy I would think would suck when his bat speed went away, but the bat speed is still there, so it surprises me that he was so bad in the first half last year.

  6. I mean, it’s just what we’ve been saying all off-season: the offense is going to dominate, now if only they had some pitching to go with it!

  7. So far, not making a difference as he’shitting 167 (I know, just 3 games), but he looks like 2023-2024 Volpe right now.

“The concept makes so much sense. I know I’m bought in,” Volpe said. “The bigger you can have the barrel where you hit the ball, it makes sense to me.”

    1. Why invoke Pythag? The team is clearly on pace for 162 wins.

More seriously, I’m not looking forward to the “correction” Tuesday, with Corbin Burnes matching up against Will Warren. Pythag could easily fall to 81-81, and “on track” pace (which we all know is completely accurate and predictive) could slow to 120-42.
