Volpe was a late scratch, which normally would freak the shit out of me, but it turns out that he’s just sick. While don’t get me wrong, being sick enough not to be able to play baseball suggests that he must be feeling like complete shit right now, I think we would all agree that if you’re going to be a late scratch in a baseball game, “upset stomach” is the reason you want to hear, right?
Fascinating that Berti is batting 7th, while Cabrera bats ninth.
It sure would be nice if Clarke Schmidt put it all together this season.
I’m a bit confused as to why Cabrera moves over to short for Berti to play third. Surely Berti is the better shortstop defensively, no?
I dislike Schmidt days.
Boy, that’s not what you want with Judge 3-0 and a runner on first.
Judge is brutal right now. Looked like he could have used that missed week and a half
Man, those were back-to-back shitty at-bats by Judge and Rizzo. France’s stuff is not very good at all right now, and they both helped him out a LOT.
Jose Abreu is looking WASHED, right?
What sucks is that better framing would have gotten Schmidt a strike on either the 1-2 pitch or the 2-2 pitch, but the fact of the matter is that Schmidt just missed his spot by way too much on both pitches. Trevino couldn’t do anything with them.
I think Schmidt wanted nothing to do with Alvarez
God DAMN, Schmidt, that Tucker at-bat was fucking AMAZING. He just made an All-Star look like a fucking scrub. You’d love to see more of THAT from Schmidt.
Really nice inning
I noticed that Tucker led the American League in RBI last year with just 112, and that inspired the following trivia question, “What was the last full MLB season where a league leader in RBI had less than 110?”
Id go with 1988 just because of the hitting environment?
What a nice piece of hitting from Stanton.
Maybe today is the day Stanton rises from the dead
And he can even run enough to advance on a flyball!
He does seem to be running markedly better
He got to second on the double downright EASILY!
Trevino!
Hit ’em where they ain’t!
Surprised Waldo isn’t hitting 7th.
It’s gotta be something like they think this helps him mentally so they don’t want to mess with what’s working, because yeah, he’s been hitting the ball so well (heck, that out he just made was even very well struck) that you’d think he’d hit higher in the lineup (Verdugo can go to the #9 hole any day now).
Schmidt really went after Bregman, too.
Boy, Diaz is LOCKED IN to start the season.
Schmidt really working that corner low and away to RHB pretty well.
I legit don’t know how Berti missed the ball by that much.
It’s weird how Houston has such an excellent lineup while having a hole at FIRST BASE, of all places!
Like Diaz, Pena is also looking really locked in to start the season.
Wow, that SHOCKED me. That seemed like such of a wasted challenge, but obviously someone saw a good replay.
I wonder why Pena is such a bad basestealer.
Dang, and Schmidt was cruising. Good for Altuve, I guess. He hit that REALLY well.
There is no big deal about a 3-1 start to the season, especially when the ‘Mighty Diamondbacks’ lie directly ahead.
The 2024 ‘Season of Gloom’ is upon you.
Stanton has had some embarrassing strikeouts as a Yankee, and that’s probably not even in his top ten, but it was still pretty darn embarrassing.
He’s basically cooked, like an Easter ham.
HAPPY EASTER!
The Martian can’t get healthy soon enough. Boy, do I dislike Verdugo.
I want verdugo to be good only so the Yankees can get a solid return for him when Dominguez returns.
Such a nice piece of hitting by Berti. It makes his previous at-bat look like a major outlier.
I really hope Rizzo is good this year. It’s hard to project him because his season was so affected by injury last year.
Don’t get Trevy swinging first pitch with Berti on first and two outs.
TYM for Berti
I’m trying and failing to imagine the Waldling boothgasm
Polite of Berti and Trevino to make outs there so Oswaldo’s AB doesnt go wasted this inning.
Not Berti’s best game defensively.
I didn’t even remotely think that that was going to hold up. That was shocking (in a good way).
The glove area part of the rule makes it hard to overturn unless the call is obviously wrong
I like Soto
This Schmarke Clidt is pitching quite a game.
He’s mad that we didn’t believe in him
um
Doh!
What if Cash really wanted them to take King not Schmidt?
Not my favorite inning of 2024 so far.
Welp
Torres isn’t hitting, but he has put together some nice PAs
See, the Yankees should never score first. The battle cry in the 2024 ‘Season of Gloom’.
unclutch Soto
Have a good feeling about Judge’s next AB.
Another late rally to break Astro hearts would … not suck.
Anybody got tips on changing my avatar pic? I was directed to a site called Gravatar, uploaded a pic, it wanted a lot more info that I declined to provide, pic seems not to have been applied
I see a dapper man in a bowtie and apron.
Oh wow thanks–I guess it just took a minute
Repo man!
You’re god damn right it is
Burdi looks really good
Burdi and Berti. Hm.
Soto!
It’s so tough to see how Soto is a sub .300 career hitter after watching him this weekend.
Go ahead and just give Soto all the money. All of it.
Maybe Stanton will give him the money
Stanton couldn’t, on accounta when you move around money you’ve stolen, that’s considered laundering.
And maybe clone him? This is a highly unregulated market where the Yankees could press their financial advantages. It worked for the Empire, until it didn’t.
WOW. Walking home carrying a bag of groceries and watching YES on my phone. Hader vs Soto.
oh well
Remember when Holmes used to blow batters away?
Holmes? Seriously? Like he’s some kind of great closer? This is Boone being Boone
Remember: the most satisfying outcome of any Altuve AB is drilling him between the ribs. AND it sets up the triple play.
Holmes is shite. He needs a lot of luck, A LOT.
Everybody hit the ball hard.
Well they did it
Sweep!
Luckiest save ever.
With this win, the Yankees are tied for the all time record for the best start to a season after 4 games.
We’ve witnessed history, gentlemen.
I’m lying down in a darkened room, overcome with emotion
I’d rather have Hader any day, even on the ones that Hader takes the L and Holmes the SV.
But YAY WIN.
4-0 on the road to start a season is probably pretty rare. Well maybe 4-0 against one team on the road…
The poor Astros can’t catch a break
Yankees/Pirates WS?
Don’t be fooled by a 4-0 start, hell the Mets are…. checks standings…. 0-3. What’s the difference with so many games remaining? In fact, the Cheatstros are 0-4, but we know how mighty they are at cheating.
And now, into the teeth of ‘The Mighty Diamondbacks’. The 2024 ‘Season of Gloom’ is here.
Is there a way to block people on the new site?
Damn, what’d I say?
Some people have no sense of the history of the many iterations of RLYW.
So far i’d like a reply to reply more than a block. we had some nice conversations that used to go, even on the last iteration.
King having a nice start for the Friars and benefitting from … a little bit of run support.
He got cuffed around in his first start though. Maybe he gets a pass for the long road trip.
Seven walks and 2 hits in 4ip.
I’m pissed Thorpe got traded. but soto is so sweet though
First game I saw this year, not bad. New site, ‘Stros sweep, even an SG sighting! Not bad.
Used to post as Jerry Seinfeld, now this. We’ll see how this goes! How bad could it be?
Holmes had nothing – nada, zippo..,the closer!
Soto on the other hand is great.
Katie Sharp Yankees with at least .500 BA, .600 OBP, .750 SLG in player’s first 4 games of season (min. 20 PA):
Juan Soto 2024
Derek Jeter 2005
I have no recollection
Gavin Stone looks incredible
That was on after Barnaby Jones and before Mannix
Well played, Calla
They had Hernandez miked for a half inning and he got a lot of questions about Betts at SS and one thing Hernandez carefully did not say was “he’s great at the position”
Dodgers playing some very poor D here
Yankees get Jake Cousins.
And weirdly Jake Cousins is actually Kirk Cousins cousin, not totally disimilar from The Patty Duke show.
