The Yankees haven’t made a Rule 5 pick in over a decade, but more importantly, while I thought that Cashman should have protected more guys, it turned out that he was correct, as the Yankees didn’t lose a single guy. That’s great, as there were definitely some live arms left unprotected that might come in handy during the regular season.
Poor TJ Rumsfield, though. No one will ever claim him!
Petit, Paez, and Susac were legit prospects, so it’s interesting to see what happens with them.
even the baseball reference projection for judge is a thing of beauty
we’d be disappointed by it but it’s by far the highest projection i think ive ever seen

i can’t imagine this team without the guy
I can imagine it all to easily.
I mean, we all remember that spell in 2023 when he ran into the wall in LA. The rest of the team collapsed as if Judge had collided with them.

Is 3.99 in high A and AA especially impressive?
No. They think there’s an outside, outside chance he could be something. Chances are they return him to St Louis.
Greg Joyce: Cash: “We’re just staying engaged, trying… to match up with some things. But it’s been tough so far,” the GM said. “Don’t like the asks coming our way, and I guess the opposing teams don’t like what I’m trying to pull from them on the trade stuff.” He reiterated that he feels the Yankees are operating from a position of strength, with a strong roster.
Things are looking up. Yankees signed reliever Bradley Hanner to a minor league deal with invite to spring training. Will earn $800K if in the majors.
Leiter Jr to A’s.
If Suarez is getting just $15 million a year for three years, I think there’s a deal to be made to bring Weaver back affordably.
Misspoke? “ According to Cashman, New York has also moved on from right-hander Luke Weaver. During an interview at the MLB Winter Meetings on Sunday, Cashman, in discussing the Yankees’ bullpen turnover, told the media that, “We lost Devin and Weaver.””
He had a good year and a half but for most of his career he was mediocre. Not sure if I want him or not. Who’s the real Luke Weaver?
Yeah, I’m not pumped about bringing him back, either, but if he can be had cheap, I wouldn’t mind it. He was looking at $15 million a year midway through the season. Now he’s probably looking at, what, $8 million?
They obviously need at least one 8th inning guy in free agency, whether it be Weaver or someone else. It can’t be Doval, and it’s unlikely to be Cruz.
there’s a post on reddit attributing this to sherman:
“By the time the yankees made the playoffs, Rodon couldn’t even straighten out his arm. That’s how bad the chip was”
so if that was the case, and his velo was indeed on the decline, why start him in the post?
i am not the biggest rodon fan. seems like a cool guy but the contract has burnett vibes. putting that aside, it was a good year. but if a guy is hurt, like volpe, or carlos…. why not see wha someone else has?
maybe fried, gil, warren, shlittler don’t get it done but at least they were healthy(?).
He pitched well against the Red Sox just five days earlier, right? So it’s hard to tell when the tipping point is going to be on an injury like that.
i agree that it’s not too easy to judge, even if we have the benefit of hindsight. if you look up the advanced stats though they aren’t too high on his performance against boston,
5.3fip, -cPWA, for example.
obviously i’ll take the RL win over the roto league one – but there is still something suspicious going on with how they deal with injuries and his final start left a terrible taste. 🤷♂️
Signing Jorge Polanco and trading Jazz for a pitcher would actually work out really nicely, right? It would balance out the over-reliance of lefties on the team with Rice, Grisham, Wells, McMahon, Dominguez, Jones, and either Belli/Tucker.
With the theory being that Lombard can then take over from Polanco as soon as 2027.
Jazz for Adrián Morejón and a minor league arm would be an interesting deal.
Morejón had over 2 WAR last season.
I guess you’d want more control than just one season, though.
I’m not sure you’re overstating the need for pitching. It’s only to cover the back end of the rotation for the first part of the season, right? How much do you really want to give up for that?
I missed a “not”
Do you trust Warren or Gil as high leverage short men in the playoffs? I don’t. I think they need to add a reliable 8th inning guy, and Jazz might be a way to get one. Morejon was a 2+ WAR reliever, which is hard to do!
I guess. I think they can get bullpen arms, and I think they can create them. That’s got to be top of the list of what they do at least passably well. And they’re volatile as hell in any event.
They don’t have many chips as valuable as Jazz, and I’d rather use it (if you’re going to trade him) for offense I believe at least might not fail in the postseason.
Jazz as part of a package for Skubal.
that’s actually interesting with both guys in their final year. +jones? Make it happen. bring it up at the round table?
Gleyber would be blocking Jazz in that deal
