    2. By the way, LeMahieu isn’t just hitting in this rehab spot, he’s making HARD contact. It’s nice to see. So I assume that means he’s hurt again. 😉

      As to his position when he returns, I think it’ll still be third base. It’s not like he doesn’t know how to play third base, ya know? But yeah, perhaps they think he’s a better second baseman than third baseman now, and if so, then yeah, maybe Jazz will move to third.

  61. It is extremely weird that the Jays called up an outfielder and then started him. Like they are still in the race for the division and WC, this is the kind of thing you do to get a look at a guy when you’re out of the running

  64. Remember that game against the Rays–it was like 20 years ago–when the Yankees were down big and were facing the back end of the pen. The guy, I think a Japanese pitcher, kept giving up runs and Piniella was so mad that he couldn’t get an out that he left him in to LOSE THE GAME

    3. Thing is, I totally remember the Asian reliever, so I’m confused. But it HAS to be this game, right? I guess we both confused Nomo with an Asian reliever.

    4. Nomo did have a bad start and no doubt Piniella was steamed about that too, so that must be why we conflated it

    1. It’s tough to gauge a guy in a situation like this. So I’m going to need to see him pitch in a real situation first before I make any opinion about the guy.

    2. At the time, they couldn’t possibly know Gil would be as good as he was, while they also didn’t know if Cortes would be healthy. They needed someone who could eat innings.

      But yeah, oooooooh boy, has he been bad.

  90. I find it exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxtremely difficult seeing Schmidt outpitching Bassitt the rest of the game. And I don’t even mean that as a shot against Schmidt. The Yankees had their chance against Bassitt, and they blew it.

    1. That they saw him v. LHP and didn’t convert to full-time lefty hitting is just another mark against Cashman and their system.

  108. I don’t think I’ve seen a guy as fast as Dominguez give up on as many balls to left as Dominguez does.

    Like, I’ve seen plenty of shitty left fielders who are slow do so, like Matt Carpenter or Giancarlo Stanton, but for a guy with speed like Dominguez, to give up on so many fly balls to left is so odd.

    Shoulda been a series sweep; just like the Tampa series last weekend. Imagine if Divine had done his job; 7-0 against the AL East.

    1. Really, all I was thinking at the end of the game was “They should have swept these dudes AND they should have swept Tampa Bay, and they should be 18-9 right now.”
