    1. boone is more “do what they don’t expect” and less “do what they don’t want you to do”.

  1. Cole has thrown 57 pitches in 5 innings.

Ben Rice just worked a 10-pitch walk to knock out the other starter with no outs in the 6th.

This is pretty much what you want to see against a AAA team. People still taking their job seriously.

  2. I don’t get this move at ALL. He’s at 79 pitches. Let him get his seven innings, and don’t put his runs in the hands of these guys.

It also means that the high leverage guys will likely have to pitch when you could make it be just Cole and Blackburn.

    1. And now Cruz is being a nutjob.

I’ll give Boone this much, if you bring Cruz in with two outs, you can pull him at any point next inning.

  3. Cole has always been great, but even he has never looked this good. This really could be a historically great starting rotation.
So of course Judge is under 1000 OPS, Rice is almost under 1000 OPS, Cody at 860. Not the gaudy numbers they all had earlier in the season. And Grisham’s hardly over 700.
And two games against AAA doesn’t change the fact that it’s not going to be enough to compensate for the Abyss.
Have to hope the ENTIRE LINEUP is just in a slump, that it’s temporary.

    1. WAR is a crude measure for relievers because of how few innings they throw and one bad outing can wreck it, just like for ERA. that said we know these guys suck

    1. I would argue that Jazz and Caballero were too.

We’d have to wait a few years to see, but signing Bellinger over Tucker may also have been the right move.

I am only a tiny bit of a Cashman apologist because I don’t believe he is terrible. I believe he is about average. I mean, there are other teams with similar-ish payrolls that seem to struggle with consistency. The Phillies do alright, Toronto had a great year last year, but they are not perennially frightening or even especially good. And the Mets are their own special case.

I want a new GM too (the continued employment of Boone is plenty enough reason to eject Cash), but I am also not confident that our current ownership group and its advisors are at all capable of choosing a better replacement.

  4. since the yanks are posturing that they won’t get a catcher to integrate with the staff during the middle of the season, how about a reunion with Higgy (who has caught some of the staff) to platoon?

the rangers might want to save some money, maybe they want escarra. who knows.
