3-2 really doesn’t sound nearly as good as 4-1.
Nasty night for baseball. Nasty start to the game. Bad Rodon is back in town.
This is the Rodon we all expected.
Rodon just has never mastered the art of making a bad pitch look worth swinging at. It’s either in the zone, or it’s WAY out of the zone.
Shockingly, when the opposing pitcher is really good, they hit worse.
Is Rodon’s fastball supposed to sit at around 90-91 mph?
No
Right.
I don’t have faith in Rodon’s ability to pitch with radically reduced stuff.
I mean, I have questions about his ability to pitch with his best (really good) stuff.
Ah, Rodon returns.
The Diamondbacks are a good hitting team, but Rodon has been dogshit today.
Game over. Thanks Rodon, just another brilliant Cashman acquisition.
Why in the world are you stealing when the guy has nothing?!
Rodon’s fastball is between 90 and 91, topping out at around 93.
He’s going to get clobbered every time if that’s what he has.
It would be cool if yet another Yankee starter were hurt, so we have that to look forward to.
It’s cold and the season is young. I think when he’s right he can go 95+.
Average Velocity: Rodón’s four-seam fastball averages around 95.4 mph.
Top Speed: He has been clocked at a top speed of 99.7 mph.
It looks like his BAC is usually 95+
If GD is any indication, that was a miserable at by Dominguez.
Yuk
Good to see they haven’t lost that RISP edge.
Forget Arizona’s bench. The Yankees have Reyes and Peraza as well as Trent as JC.
Is Rodon less likable than Burnett?
Outside of Judge is anyone on the Yankees top 3/5 at their position in the AL?
Yankees came into this game with a 444 OPS vs Gallen who has a career ERA of 0 vs the Yankees.
Exactly. This was a schedule loss coming in.
He’s good, but not that good. Yankees have been exposed.
I’m actually somewhat impressed that he battled as well as he did for not having his best stuff.
It’s a small thing, and won’t help much, but they have to drop phenom in the lineup, you can’t just let them bring in a LHP to face Wells, Martian, Rice and Waldo. If Volpe were better it would matter more.
Against good lefties, Rice doesn’t seem to know WHAT the fuck he’s doing.
Yankees really getting their dicks knocked in the dirt
What an odd image.
Pop gun 3-run HR by Volpe.
That slider to K Dominguez was nasty.
Oh well, at least I think they avoid Skenes.
Followed by a Wells pop up and a Jason K. Lose 4-3.
In a 162 game season there will always be games you know you’re going to lose. Tonight is one such game. Ok a loss, move on.
The problem is with this manager games you could win become losses with stupid moves. Like not using Weaver for 4 or 5 outs last night. It’s not the the guy didn’t do it a bunch if times last season. But boooner thinks linearly – “he’s the closer tonight so he only pitches the 9th”. This happens 5-10 times a season and when the team isn’t the most talented team in the league it can cost you. And you end up seeing your 6th best pitcher in a 1 run game with the bases loaded. Last year it didn’t cost them anything; this year it will.
A predictable CT. Have they considered turning the Martian into a full time left handed hitter? Would’ve been good to experiment in ST or in the minors.
In 2024 Martian185/510 in 65 ABs vs LHPs, 318/922 vs RHPs

LHB vs LHP 237/670
RHB vs LHP 147/440
I don’t know if this would help the Martian but have they considered it? Waldo has similar problems.
I mentioned a few years back that they should stop switch hitting Jasson. The Yankees are one of the dumbest organizations around, and that is the Cashman legacy.
Dodgers, down 5-0 early, win 6-5 with an Ohtani solo walk off in the 9th. Now 8-0.
Kirschner:The Yankees have swung at 41 percent of Zac Gallen’s pitches out of the strike zone tonight.
Less than ideal.
Seems like a lot to me.
Oh, totally, but he’s a guy who ideally GETS people to swing outside the strike zone. It’s not like he’s wild, he just expands the strike zone when he gets ahead.
This is really a small sample, his minor’s number are more meaningful but Martian as Yankee

Should have been done a few years ago.
