  1. They’d get Burnes and Gallen in this series regardless of whether Burnes is the #1 or the #5, so it’s no big deal. The difference is that they’ll face Kelly on Thursday, instead of Taillon today (and Taillon got kinda shelled his first start, 6 ER in 4.1 IP).

    1. Burnes is just pulling a Stroman and asking his team to accommodate his need for a stupidly rigid schedule.

    2. I love his cocky answer about it. “You signed me for my process, so why would you want to mess with my process?” Okay, buddy, but, like, couldn’t your process not be so fucking weird?

    1. It was fun while it lasted. So much of the game at this level is mental, or what Yogi once said.

    2. A bad changeup to a great hitter right after you lost a batter on a close pitch IS a brain cramp.

In other words, if it was just a normal at-bat, and a guy crushes a bad changeup, I get it, but when you’re visibly irritated by a call, and then throw a bad changeup on the next pitch? That’s a brain cramp, and that’s a lack of discipline.

    3. But there’s some chance even the most “tough” pitcher is gonna throw a bad changeup even when they’re not having a mental problem. How do you k ow when it’s their mind and not just inevitable mistakes?

  2. Warren had a 5.91 era in the minors last year. Thats hard to overlook. As I remember he’d have an occasional big game but a lot of clunkers.

  3. Again, with talent like Warren, you don’t give up on it. I’m not saying he’s a bum. He is so talented that he deserves a chance to put it all together, like Gil seemingly did last year, but boy is it frustrating while he’s learning!

    1. I mean, he was among the top three guys in the Majors last year in strikeout rate, ya know? It was always a matter of walks and homers. He was basically the perfect guy to see if Blake could do something with him.

  4. Last season for the Yankees in 21.2ip he gave up 28 hits including 6 home runs and 9 walks for a WHIP of 1.7 and a FIP of 5.2. But he’s family and we had to bring him back.

  5. phenom 2023 with a 278 OBP in 2025. As long as he can continue on pace for 100 home runs everything should be ok.
phenom 2023 had 21 home runs and a 283 OBP for an OPS+ of 81.

  6. Grisham is a smart defender. He knew he wasn’t going to catch that, but he also knew that he had to make it LOOK like he was going to catch it. Super, super smart play.

One of the most head’s up plays you’ll ever see by a Yankee.

  7. Leiter sucking shouldn’t be that big of a deal in the long run considering he’s normally going to be a middle-innings guy. They just have a bunch of injuries, and today, it’s even worse with Williams on paternity leave.

  8. Agree, Brian. If this game proves to be a sign that they’ll get value out of Rice and Dominguez – and maybe Warren – I think we’ll take it.
