From Steve Kornacki:
The Yankees brought the most productive offense in the Majors into Monday afternoon’s 6-2 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park.
The Bombers had set the MLB record with 25 homers in their first eight games, and their 8.4 runs per game were easily the most in either league entering this contest. But Detroit right-hander Casey Mize limited them to one run on four hits through six splendid innings, while striking out six with three walks.
A tame game at the plate was bound to happen, but the Yankees hadn’t scored fewer than three runs in any game — and they had tallied at least nine runs five times.
I’m actually not quite as down on Rodon as I was during the game. He still pisses the shit out of me with his dumb fucking stupid face, and his pathetic inability to handle adversity, but, well, the dude DID pitch six innings, and he was fucked by an error, and he was fucked by Ottavino coming in and walking two guys after he left with a runner on first base in the seventh inning, and he was fucked by a TERRIBLE 3-2 pitch that should have obviously been a strike (and since his home run he gave up came with two outs, well, you do the math). So I don’t hate Rodon quite as much as I did during the game.
But boy, do I still strongly dislike the guy. He has so much talent, and yet he is extremely undisciplined, and he’s fucking 32 years old and makes $26 million a year! How are you that old, and that highly paid, and still lack basic control of your emotions?
Casey Mize was great today, so they were likely fucked if Rodon only allowed three runs. Also, why was Dominguez benched against a righty when he almost assuredly has to sit against Tarik Skubal in Game 2?
6-5 is not awful, but nor is it good, and that’s where they’re about to be after Game 2 in this series. But I think Max Fried will give them a good chance to win in the final game of the series.
It would be nice if Belli started to hit a little bit.

I’d like to see Chisholm stop swinging for the fences maybe. Dude is K-ing at a 40+% rate. That’s not sustainable.
Ben Rice leads the Yankees in walks & BB%, hard hit %, EV, and and is 8th in strikeouts. So far his K-rate is 8th on the team. And he’s tied for 2nd on the team in SBs as a bonus (I don’t think he was out on the CS, so he should have 3 steals). Look out Shohei, Uncle Ben is looking to get into the 50/50 club!
Jazz’s swing is hilarious. My wife doesn’t know baseball at all, but even she asks me, “Why does he swing like that?” The answer is, “No good reason.”
Steve Kornacki?
Weird, right? That’s what it says on MLB.com. I doubt it, too.
