From Bryan Hoch:
Marcus Stroman trudged toward the first-base dugout in the first inning on Friday night, his early exit accompanied by a chorus of boos. The Yankees’ starting pitching was lauded as perhaps baseball’s best coming into this season, but it has become an area of concern.
Other than Max Fried, who has a razor-sharp 1.56 ERA across three starts, the Bombers have struggled to find consistency in the rotation. A 46-pitch effort from Stroman, who permitted five runs and recorded just two outs in a 9-1, rain-shortened loss to the Giants at Yankee Stadium, certainly didn’t help.
Stroman’s terrible, but I guess he probably shouldn’t be THIS terrible, so I might actually believe that he is dealing with an injury. Good, get him on the IL. The problem is that the best option on the current roster to replace him, Yoendrys Gómez, looks like HE’s probably hurt, too, as his velocity dropped a LOT. Gómez blamed the fact that it was pouring rain at the time, and that might be true, but it also might be that the oft-injured Gomez is, well, you know, injured again.
I guess they need to keep Cookie Carrasco at this point, but I honestly wouldn’t mind just throwing Ryan Yarbrough out there at this point.
The Yankee offense is good enough (unless you’re a tough lefty) to keep the Yankees in most games, they only need mediocre starting pitching, and Stroman and Carrasco aren’t even giving them THAT. Rodon and Warren both have at least CHANCES at succeeding. I don’t see that with Stroman or Carrasco at the moment.
I almost want to bring Domingo German back. Spencer Turnbull is throwing for teams, maybe give him a shot? This team just needs non-godawful pitching to hang in the playoff race, as the rest of the American League sucks, too. The Red Sox got their asses kicked by the fucking White Sox.

Sorry for Plank, who really likes the guy.
To state the obvious – I mean, honestly. losing Cole, Gil and Schmidt from your starting rotation in short order is not going to go unnoticed. The way losing 60% of your starting lineup in short order would not go unnoticed.
Two of those three coming back can change everything, and I’m happy enough developing Warren in the 5th slot. What’s the timetable on Schmidt?
15th or 16th for Clarke
Thanks. That’s not bad!
Remember when people were discussing moving Stroman to the pen or trading him because there was no room in the rotation. Good times. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
He would not go to the bullpen. He is Marcus F*ing Stroman, Tribesman of the Plains, Killer of the Great Gray Wolf, Master of the 11.57 ERA.
Chris…even if the choice were between me and Stroman, there would be no room in the rotation for Stroman
Conditions could be as bad or worse than yesterday. A 1:00 start probably would’ve avoided a lot of the rain. Gonna be 40 all day.
