    1. Sure, but Cash hasn’t noticed that when you have a million outs, they never seem to come in.

    2. Sic the last 2 sessions of High Stakes Poker has been action like I’ve never seen before.

    1. The thing about DJ being “healthy” is that you can never actually believe them when they say that he’s healthy. He was “healthy” before hurting his foot last Spring Training, and then, after the season, it was “Oh, yeah, by the way, he had a hip problem all season.”

      Fucking liars who lie.

    1. Damn, Dodger fans are going to have one hell of a team to watch until they leave after the 6th inning.

  1. We can’t return we can only look behind
    From where we came
And go round and round and round
    In the circle game

Earlier today, the Yankees claimed LHP Brent Headrick off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated RHP Owen White for assignment.

    1. This is such a funny period of the year for a guy like Cashman who knows he has a pitching coach who can turn some of these guys into studs, so it’s like, “Who is the guy with the best chance of Blake working his magic on them?” And he keeps dropping guys and picking up new guys to try to get to, like, the “perfect” guy.

Jake Cousins is such a disappointment with his constant injuries, and his choking in the World Series.

    1. I’m in the bag for those guys (and Future of the Left). Mcluskey Do Dallas is one of those great records from the era where it was like being jazzed about the hot new theropods on the scene with a bright Cretaceous future stretched out in front of you.

    1. Would I have wanted Bregman here on that deal? No, but fuck, it still sucks. Cashman better make a fucking move, because I think the Red Sox are very possibly the better team at the moment.

    2. We’ve got a budget Brian. As long as we follow the plan we should be fine. DJ is healthy. Wells will follow in the Yogi, Thurm, Posada footsteps. Volpe will make Bobby Witt progress.

    3. I think it’s weird how people are, like, “How could he turn down the 6/$171 from the Tigers?”

His plan seems pretty clearly to kick ass in Fenway (he has something like a 1.200 career OPS in Boston), then get a new deal next year, and he’ll just need to go 5/$140 to beat the Tigers offer.

He’s only hurt if he’s ABSOLUTELY TRASH the next three seasons, and even there, he still pockets $120 million. I really like this deal for him.

    4. Based on the last round of FanGraphs projections I have to think that yes, the Red Sox are a better team than the Yankees. Leave it to Cashman (and Hal) to underwhelm yet again.

  2. If they got Arenado, it’d be something like…

    Jazz 2B (L)
    Judge RF (R)
    Bellinger CF (L)
    Stanton DH (R)
    Wells C (L)
    Goldschmidt 1B (R)
    Dominguez LF (S)
    Arenado 3B (R)
    Volpe SS (R)

Arenado isn’t much of a hitter anymore, but he’s still a pretty fucking good number EIGHT hitter.

    1. And obviously, the hope would be that Wells hits his way to a higher lineup spot, and so does Dominguez. If everyone lives up to their hype, it’d be something like…

      Dominguez LF (S)
      Judge RF (R)
      Wells C (L)
      Stanton DH (R)
      Bellinger CF (L)
      Goldschmidt 1B (R)
      Jazz 2B (L)
      Arenado 3B (R)
      Volpe SS (R)

    1. No, they’re not close, but with the Red Sox out of it, the Cardinals really don’t have much leverage anymore. The Tigers are perfectly willing to just go with Jung at third. So I think that it just seems like the logical fit, with the Cardinals eating half of his money (or eating less of the money in 2025, but taking Stroman’s 2025 salary)

  3. Daniel Vogelbach hired as a special assistant for the Pirates. There should be a requirement for every front office to have a square-shaped guy

    1. Cashman was lucky to inherit a dynasty from SpongeBob Watson.

Born on third, thinks he hit a Triple Gooberberry Sunrise.

    2. When Vogelbach was on the Brewers, I went to a Pirates game when the Brewers in in town. He was on the disabled list, my friends and I saw him going into a sandwich shop at ~11 PM after the game. He’s hard to miss, since he stretches the width of a door. Big fan of Vogelbach.

    1. It’s totally a great deal for Bregman. But I can see the argument for the Red Sox, as well, as obviously they assume he’s leaving after this season, having gotten paid $40 million, so since they’re under the luxury tax, one big payment is better than guaranteeing him a larger amount later, and since they have Campbell almost ready, they can cover his position in 2026, but this way you don’t have to rush Campbell. I think it’s a win-win deal for both sides, while being slightly better for Bregman than the Red Sox, since the only downside of the deal is for the Red Sox if he just outright SUCKS, which I don’t think is likely, but IS possible.

  4. Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak spoke to members of the media today, including Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, saying that trade candidate Nolan Arenado is likely staying put. “I think the mindset right now is he’s likely going to be a part of our club at this point,” Mozeliak said. “I definitely feel like it’s a better chance than not” that he is the club’s Opening Day third baseman.

    1. If you were in the position Brian’s described, isn’t that exactly what you’d say?
