From Bryan Hoch:
The chants were heard during the sixth inning on Sunday evening, spreading between the Yankee Stadium bases and growing in volume with each intonation. “We want Soto!” the crowd cried, pleading in hopes that Juan Soto would grab a bat for a surprise pinch-hitting appearance.
Trent Grisham took note. While Soto would remain benched for a third consecutive game with left forearm inflammation, Grisham responded with a go-ahead, three-run homer off Tyler Glasnow. Aaron Judge added his Major League-leading 24th homer, powering the Yankees to a 6-4 victory over the Dodgers in the Bronx.
“Yes, I heard them,” Grisham said, with a smile. “It wasn’t about that. I was just happy that I was able to stay present in the moment, worry about myself and put a good swing on one.”
Playing time has been scarce this season for Grisham, a top-flight defender acquired from the Padres in the December trade that brought Soto to the Yankees.
So have hits. When manager Aaron Boone filled out a lineup card with Grisham hitting fifth on Sunday, looking for balance from a left-handed bat, he rolled the dice that Grisham would perform better than his .083 batting average represented.
“Grish can get to a heater, and he didn’t miss it,” Boone said. “I’m just excited for him. He’s been a really good teammate through all this. He’s been ready. He’s accepted his role. He’s gotten a little bit of an opportunity this week, and he’s taken advantage of it.”
Make no mistake about it, Grisham is still a terrible hitter, but fuck if that wasn’t amazing. He’s got to feel SO GOOD about that.
Luis Gil was interesting tonight. He was a BIT disappointing, in that he gave up three runs and left the game trailing, but, I mean, three runs in five and a third innings isn’t exactly awful, ya know? Then again, Nestor gave up four in the same amount of innings and I thought he was garbage, so I guess I have to ding Gil a bit. This Dodgers lineup is a good one, though, and he got hurt by one of the best hitters in baseball (Betts) and a guy on a crazy hot streak (Teoscar), so I guess it’s not THAT big of a deal.
The lineup sadly looked a lot better with Waldo in place of Rizzo, which is saying a lot, as Waldo is not good.
Hopefully Soto is back for the KC series. The Yankees go right from Glasnow to Seth Lugo, so that’s rough.
The featured image goes to Trent Grisham getting celebrated by his teammates. The fans later chanting “We want Trent Grisham” during his next at-bat in the game was very sweet.
this saddens me, but rodon might be a viable trade candidate after the season. he has a reasonable $27 aav, but if they want to sign Soto and go big on, say, a burnes, rodon could be a good chip.
What if Jasson is 90% of what Soto is?
Then we should really, really hope they sign Soto before they realize it.
my gripe w dominguez is that he strikes out a fair amount. that shit does not play against elite pitching, ie in the playoffs. bat to ball, bregmans and Brantley types are my strong preference.
I’m not saying go all in ($18m aav) on yoshida types, but the sentiment remains.
I also don’t recognize “jasson dominguez, good fielder,” unlike verdugo

84% steal rate in his career
215 games in center (47 in left)
here he is in left:
https://youtu.be/bZ8cseEK3v0?si=HdajUE8edniPwNzT
if he wasn’t fast and good at center field i find it to be unlikely that he would have stuck there for so long. plus he looked great in the field during his cup of coffee.
FREE THIS MAN
i added some links of jasson in the field performing admirably with some other notable metrics regarding his speed in an attempt
to persuade anyone that thinks he would not be an adequate fielder.
it was no approved or expired. anyway, you can search for the highlights of someone that has played 80% of their games in center.
he had -0.8 fdwar. in 8 games. that’s a crappier rate than a non-fielding player
8 games is a tiny sample size. no errors. -.2 dWar on baseball reference fwiw too.
“Dominguez’s well above average speed also allows him to make an impact on the bases and in the outfield. He has 30-30 potential, covers plenty of ground in center field and also features at least a plus arm.”
i really don’t want to wait till next year for a guy who can make a difference yesterday.
let’s put this to rest, exhibit a.
the totality of his numbers are not SSS. IMO.
Many teams would have run him out of spring training last year after the show he put on: .455 .520 1.045
EXHIBIT A
240 games in center field
807 ops across all levels
this is just sad now. where is don
KC makes sense – except, okay, perhaps except in continuing this subthread.
pff, don? I want Jasson!
Koyaanisqatsi
also, fangraphs beta is live. making SEO and UI/ux pushes it would seem
they saw I was complaining
I was worried about you.
hot damn, kopech is sucking major ass
I meant to note in the write-up that while I don’t even know that he necessarily is a GOOD announcer, Ricky Ricardo has about three million percent more personality than Justin Shackil, so if they have to pick one of their current radio guys to get the full-time gig, I think it should be Ricardo. He also gets along very well with Suzyn.
How many quazillion percent more is that, then, than Flash has?
And his name is freaking Ricky Ricardo! Okay, I know it isn’t, but it is, and that’s good enough.
And if we could only convince him to announce in Ricky Ricardo’s voice… !!!!!!!!!!
Lucy, I’m home!
just saw 1917, heard this song. was very moved.

nice. first heard this through johnny cash.
would a group of us be interested in an OOTP rlyw league? could be fun
::grumbles
How much investment does it require? I used to know every player’s slightest stat, I now really just follow one team, so I’d probably get slaughtered, but I might give it a shot.
well I think we’d all have to use steam. it’s not tedious like normal OOTP. idk cost
Saw some crazy stats –
Judge breaks the all time record for most HRs in the first 1,000 games of a career (and he’s only played 902)
Judge had 30 xBH in 30 games; not done since DiMaggio in 1937
Gil has the lowest H per 9 over the first 20 games of a career since 1920. (Dead ball era)
Thats some pretty crazy stuff

Unbelievable, yes
On May 28: Aaron Judge has 30 “barrels” this month, according to Statcast. That’s more than the Nationals (27) and Reds (26) have produced in May.

Only three times since at least 1901.
players with more than 30 extra-base hits in a single-season 30-game span, since at least 1901:
2024 Aaron Judge
1937 Joe DiMaggio
1928 Chick Hafey
Knucks, fyi when you post links on this version of the site they most often need to be approved before the post goes live
That was the case with the old site, too. Links are treated by most sites as “let’s hold this off until someone approves it,” ya know?
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm1007061/
Someone, he says 🙂
It’s a general “Someone” for all sites!

You know, that’s… very cool!

I think they only need to be approved if you edit something within the post.
I feel like sometimes I post a link and it doesn’t need approval but I dunno
can we fucking be able to see our profiles ffs. I have an agenda here.

Just occurs to me that Volpe’s streak ends only after he loses TWO challenges in the same game! The first he should have lost, but it was a great and barely made catch, that’s normally a base hit. And the second might have brushed him – which means it really shouldn’t have been overturned.
Crazy stuff, really.
They are definitely playing this one close to the vest. Still no lineup.
Hole. E. Shit.

WTF!!!
When we lose the division by a game will the Meredith ask about the game Judge and Stanton sat?
Is it totally out of the realm of possibility there will be a situation where they need Stanton to play RF?
It’s just total madness. And against a pitcher having a great season, to boot! While the Orioles are about to sweep the Rays in four games!
Boone wasn’t dead, he was merely sleeping.
There’s a level of play that compels Boone to sit you, an impulse too strong for him to hope to control, even if you’re Aaron F*ing Judge.
