From Bryan Hoch:
A few hours before first pitch on Saturday, Aaron Boone slumped into a chair in Yankee Stadium’s press conference room, visibly worn down after weeks of fielding questions about Aaron Judge’s throwing arm.
The manager revealed that the Yankees have had infielders working on “creative cuts,” intended to assist the captain as he recovers from a right flexor strain. Time will tell if that solves whatever issues linger, but this much is clear: No such accommodations are necessary for Cody Bellinger.
Bellinger turned in the defensive highlight of the afternoon, uncorking a sixth-inning rocket from right field that erased the potential tying run in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.
These Judge lies are really so silly.
You know what I’m coming around to? The argument that the Yankees are routinely getting fucked over by A. traveling home with no off day to play an opponent who had an off day before they got there (this happened in the last Boston series AND the last Toronto series) and B. opposing teams forcing the Yankees to play night games on their getaway days because the Yankees sell tickets, so teams don’t want to waste the Yankees on mid-week day games. I think that explains a bit of their offensive malaise in Game 1 of this series.
In any event, this was a great win. A win while only scoring three runs, a win with six innings from the starter, and a win without a home run. Good stuff.
Luke Weaver is still iffy, but Fernando Cruz and David Bednar were both nails. It is nice that both of those dudes are signed through next season. Hopefully some work in the offseason and Spring Training with Blake will improve Doval and Bird like Cruz was improved. Cruz has always had huge stuff, he just pitched poorly with his huge stuff, like Doval and Bird. So I’m sure Blake is confident he can turn those dudes around for next season, and they can then replace the departing Williams and maybe even Weaver (I’d like to see them bring Weaver back).
Featured image had to include Luis Gil, who was great, but how do I skip the amazing Belli throw? As it turned out, Gil was IN the shot on the play at the plate, so there ya go!
the final straw!
