I think we should coin a new stat, Overestimated OPS, to evaluate Cashman’s decisions. It’s easy to compute – just pick your time frame and take the difference between the pre-acquisition and post-acquisition OPS. So if we compare McMahon with Colorado to McMahon with New York, you get an OOPS of .107, or an OOPS+ of 14.
To evaluate the decision to give Grisham a QO, consider his stats with the Yankees before and after the QO, and you get an OOPS of .072, or an OOPS+ of 19. So Grisham’s QO isn’t as big an OOPS as the trade for McMahon, though the OOPS+ is still notable.

More seriously, appendicitis can present as just about anything, depending on the location of the patient’s appendix. Referred pain from the right leg is totally within the realm of possibility. More often from the thigh, though – haven’t heard of it from just the calf.

An interesting look at Spencer Jones’s results so far. Confirms the eye test – that he gets fooled by changeups and breaking balls, but crushes fastballs and sinkers, and he has a legit two-strike approach. Hopefully he can learn to hit the off-speed stuff, or at least to lay off it. Otherwise he’ll have more platinum sombreros in his future because the league will for sure adjust.

BTW. When Judge came back, he should have been the DH for a while, not playing RF. The Yankees are dumb.
According to Judge, he felt a problem in the first inning but initially decided to play through it before eventually leaving with right leg discomfort that’s been diagnosed as a calf strain.
Judge since coming back 174/208/304 so I’m sure with another 10 days off and calf pain he’ll be great.
