    He’s pitching incredibly uneconomically, and they keep giving him back the pitches, starting. of course, with the incredibly ill-times and predictable double-play.

  32. If you told me in advance that Warren would have the best performance of any starter this weekend, I would have expected being swept. I don’t think anyone expected him to go 7+ innings or get 7 K’s, just 1 walk and no homers, or let in just 1 earned run. That’s a really good job, arguably better than Schlittler did.

    And that’s baseball, Suzyn.

    2. I had been thinking Jorge or Bernie, but now realize I’m confusing that with the time they each homered from both sides of the plate in the same game.

      There’s one other current Yankee who has homered twice in one inning, though he did it for another team. Can you guess?

  46. I’ve been impatient with Ramos. Hope he’s regressing to his career norm vs LHP. But I think we all agree that if he gets any AB’s they should be at Grisham’s expense and not Jones’s.

    1. I assume he’ll play most/all games against LH starters. I’m guessing Jones and Grisham will alternate for the other spot tho Jones should get the job.

      Pretend Judge is back. Against RH starters it’s Judge, Cody, Grish or Jones, Rice/Garcia. If Judge needs to DH some games Rice or Garcia need to sit.

      Against LH starters it’s Judge, Cody, Ramos PGold/ Garcia or Rice. If Judge needs to DH then Jones or Grish play.

    1. … in extra innings, after Mason Miller gave up a game-tying home run (that should have been called a four-base error, as the outfielder caught it on the warning track but then dropped it over the low fence) with two out in the 9th.

      So, if Cashman had gotten Miller at the deadline, the Rays might not have won today.

  49. Watched the condensed game. Two thoughts.
    1.) If I were playing with friends, I’d count that as a catch. But would the ball have stayed in his glove if the ground didn’t hold it in as the glove turned around? I think pretty plainly the answer is no, and that’s what I think the call was on the replay.
    2.) Warren could have had no earned runs. Spencer looked strangely bad on that play, slowing down near the wall when it looked to me like he should have caught it without too much in the way of heroics.

    1. Yeah, the replay made it pretty clear that Rafaela’s glove was open with the ball against the grass. Impressive that the ump was able to see that in real time.

    3. Although, if we take that logic further, I believe his glove would NOT have opened if the ground hadn’t smooshed it open. Without the ground, in other words, it was a catch.
