The Yankees have the ERA advantage in this one, so it should be an easy win.
I’ll give the Yankees this much. NO ONE is willing to make trades right now, so they really CANNOT get a catcher at the moment. They clearly A. want to get a catcher, and B. WILL get a catcher, but it just isn’t feasible right now. I honestly think that there is a chance that Cashman makes a major move for a controllable catcher like Hunter Goodman. It would require giving up multiple top ten prospects, but it would be transformational. The Rockies need pitching, and the Yankees have a lot of interesting arms in the minors.
Hopefully they stick with Yarbs as the fifth starter until Rodon returns. Yarbs was literally fine in the fifth starter role just LAST YEAR.
Boy, this team is so depressing when NO ONE is hitting, Judge doesn’t appear even SLIGHTLY close to returning, and there isn’t even a TIMETABLE for when Stanton will begin rehabbing again.
In my opinion this is what WAR misses. Judge is worth even more than what his 8-9-10 WAR seasons say he is. Without him this team is unwatchable. Literally. I’m not watching.
The gravity effect is huge. He was helping them even when he sucked, because teams had to constantly take him into consideration.
They’re going to reimage Judge during the ASB. Stanton to start running again. Apparently he didn’t reinjure himself, it was a BRAND NEW CALF INJURY. Lombard to resume hitting activities.
Cx 1:10 start.
Worser and worser. Cashman said they do not anticipate the imaging will be clean. Judge can’t do many upper-body exercises that put any stress on his rib cage. They hope the imaging allows them to start adding upper-body workouts because he’s limited.
Only because our middle infield sucks.
Brian Cashman said George Lombard Jr. “might be a choice at some point” in the second half.
Said he’s plug-and-play ready to go defensively and has closed the gap he had coming into the season offensively.
Man, is it suck o’clock ALREADY?
Grisham hit the ball hard.
I think Boone should’ve used Doval and Bird to get the first 5 or 6 innings. This game is not winnable.
I think you have to at least TRY for it, but yes, basically agreed.
Couldn’t even give them a HINT of a chance at a win. Game over in the first inning.
Blackburn annoyingly pitched him well in that at-bat until he then missed TERRIBLY on the 0-2 pitch, and Caminero crushed it.
Just take the walk, Cody.
He couldn’t just take the walk. NONE OF THEM can just take the fucking walk.
Their chase rate in general has been good this season, but it’s been terrible this series. They’re just swinging at EVERYTHING.
Their one good inning this whole series was based around two walks. THEIR ONLY TWO WALKS THIS SERIES.
And on cue, Cabby strikes out on a ball.
WHY ISN’T JONES ON THIS FUCKING TEAM?!
Why is SCHUEMANN a regular fucking OUTFIELDER on this team?!
I get the logic of “Jones won’t play over Grisham, Belli or Dominguez,” fair enough. But then they DON’T PLAY THOSE THREE GUYS EVERY GAME!!!
Maybe just make Blackburn the #4 starter, and send down Warren.
Glad I didn’t tune in. Man, this franchise is so hit or miss. They’re either elite or horrible and it averages out to a winning team by record, but they never feel like it.
The no walks have to be on Boone and the coaches.
Hmm?
This is a statistical anomaly
Ben Rice is back. Would like to see a better replay and the ground rule.
Why can’t the announcers see that it was a home run? It went BEHIND THE SCREEN and bounced off the seats back into play.
How can they not see that?
You can’t defend speed.
Nice piece of hitting Cabby.
Kay and Girardi must have watched five replays, one of which was a perfect, sharp slow-mo replay, and STILL couldn’t see what the umpires had no trouble seeing.
NOW they see it! Jeezzus.
I was interviewing someone for an interview article over zoom while I had the game on in the background. It was an interesting experience, to say the least!
Your team miraculously scores six runs, and you proceed to walk the fucking number nine hitter to lead off the next inning.
What. The. Fuck?
Can we please end the Jake Bird experience?
Incredible.
In
credible.
And then some awesome, awesome defense from Cabby at short. Fuck this team so hard.
And he starts Aranda off with a pitch way out of the zone.
“ticked off the glove”
Ticked off seems about right.
They better fucking pull Bird as soon as fucking possible.
This fucking ASSHOLE BIRD.
Awesome defense from Schuemann.
This fucking team. This goddamn fucking team.
He’s NOT A FUCKING OUTFIELDER.
Spencer Is I think plus defensively
Yep. It’s fucking MADDENING. Schuemann is a good guy to have on the bench because he can fill in at various spots based on what you need after pinch-hitting/pinch-running. He’s not the guy you start as an outfielder on a regular basis. This is 2023 IKF all over again.
Jones is a good defensive outfielder who can theoretically hit a little. Why is he not on this team so that Schuemann can play the outfield every day?!
And now Jake Bird for some reality.
This tracks.
Figure 3-1 pitch and then grand slam.
6-1 is not bird proof even for one inning. There are too many guys in this team who dint belong in the major leagues right now. Wells and Bird are 1/2. Volpe is 3. Doval is 4. (If Paul G can’t figure his stuff out he’s 5.) this is nuts.
NOW Yarbs? Why wasn’t it Yarbs to begin with when that was THE FUCKING PLAN AS YOU EXPRESSED IT, BOONE!?
Jesus fucking christ, these fucking asshole. These fucking assholes.
HE’S NOT A FUCKING OUTFIELDER, BOONE!
You know what Yarbs can do? Eat a few innings. You know what Yarbs CAN’T do? Putting out a fire. He’s a fucking bulk innings guy. Which is why he should have started the fucking inning, you fucking IDIOT.
Ah, the old ‘let’s give some runs back as quick as possible’ pitching staff at work.
Walking the #9 hitter to lead off the inning right after your team scores six runs should seriously be a “sent down to the minors” offense for Bird.
There really has to be some punishment for that. If there’s one thing a baseball player should never do, that has to be top of the list.
In all fairness, Schuemann has been shockingly good on defense for the Yankees thus far, until today.
He’s very fast, I will give him that. He covers ground well. He COULD be a very good outfielder. But he doesn’t have the reps in the outfield to make some of the decisions you need to make.
Similarly, giving up a home run to Austin Wells is a “DFA” level offense.
Boing boing goes the dead cat
Giving up a HR to Wells is like giving up 6 runs to these Yankees now.
Just shameful.
This is like Sadie Hawkins day.
Austin Wells, eh.
Oh, fucking Yarbs giving that run RIGHT back. Awesome.
Can they not just stop this and have an F*ing clean inning?
Yarbs really might literally be unable to have a clean inning at this point in his career.
0-2 leadoff triple, it’s just what you want!
The trouble with a bullpen game is the bullpen.
Oh my god, just get the out, Yarbs! Damage is done! Don’t fucking distract yourself into walking the #8 hitter!
This could be the most insane managing decision of Boone’s career. DOVAL?!!?
Doval tried desperately to fuck it up, but it just couldn’t work.
Gotta g… oh, just f* it, whatever.
Well, whaddaya know?
Unexpected!
They’ve used both long men and the two mop-up guys to get through just 4 innings. Now what’s the plan?
Doval for the fifth, Hill for the sixth, Headrick for the seventh, Cruz for the 8th, Bednar to close
Really.
The ultimate “find the guy who doesn’t have it” game.
Doval is such a fucking headcase. You can’t give up automatic balls, you idiot.
Oh, and now his own fuckup is rattling him. What a fucking tool.
How can this be a player you allow on your Major League roster? The guy is a complete headcase.
Crappy bunt
I was just going to say, “Why are they all such terrible bunters?!”
And if only ONE of them screws up, that leaves them nothing to do, right?
Odd that Caballero is the least cavalier player about baseball I can think of.
Maybe it would help Doval if we just put the pitch clock right in front of him?
Oh.
Man, Doval is just the best, right?
It’s just completely unserious to have him on the roster. Yovanny Cruz, meanwhile, does nothing but succeed, and he’s in the minors.
Nice that their relievers aren’t pitching any better.
RICE!!!
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!
Amazing performance. Meanwhile, they simply CANNOT sit Grisham anymore. That dude needs to be an everyday player.
The Rays have their own Doval.
He gave up the walkoff home run to Yordan the other day.
Speaking of Doval, it’s crazy how much better the team looks if you just replace Doval and Bird with Cruz and Yerry, and Yerry isn’t even GOOD.
Rice a Benny, a NY treat
Not a treat? Dominguez lollygagging after the ball with Chandler fucking Simpson running!!
They just can’t have an easy inning. They just CAN’T do it. It’s fucking insane. One run in, speedy runner on first, and he’s 2-0 to the #8 hitter.
3-1 to the #8 hitter. Why do all of their players all have to suck out of nowhere?!
Walls swings at Ball 4.
Walls K’s on Ball 5.
Now 2-0 to the #9 hitter. Awesome.
Dominguez is possibly the dumbest baseball fielder ever. Schuemann is not an outfielder, but Dominguez is not a fielder.
They should just put the first batter of every inning on base, why waste the time and pitches?
With Simpson, they should just give him third.
Odd that play by Dominguez – I mean, he’s one of the few guys who really does bust it out of the box, and he got a hit that way TODAY, it’s not like he’s built not to try.
As dumb as Dominguez is, that’s how smart of a defender McMahon is. What an amazing out!
Oh, man, I’m watching with a delay. I thought you were talking about the first ball that got by Dominguez.
Ha! Oh yeah, that was really bad, too, but not nearly as that second hit. Thank goodness it was no harm, no foul.
Fuck, Grisham, really needed that insurance run ahead of using Angel fucking Chivilli.
Also, YES, stop using that “X straight scoreless appearances” stat right ahead of the Yankee reliever giving up a run, dicks!
What would it cost them to put the players a serious bunt drill as often as possible?
It really looks like Warren and Weathers are so close to being actually front line pitchers.
You’d think this would be exactly the kind of material a great pitching coach COULD do something big with.
And an Angel shall lead them to their first clean inning of the game!
And with the first 1-2-3 inning in (it feels like) the entire history of the franchise, Chivilli says: stop chirpin’, Brian Cronin!
I actually like Chivilli, just not in THIS game, with how every reliever has been struggling.
Chivilli basically looked like a non-brain dead Doval out there.
Not liking that Simpson leads off ANOTHER inning.
I’d love to get this to 14-4 so Schuemann could pitch the 9th to save Cruz and Bednar.
That was basically the exact opposite of hitting a triple.
Jazz, 221/693. Dreaming of 20/20.
That ball was a really bad luck DP. He really did hit it hard and SEEMINGLY in the right spot.
That was just one at-bat, of course. In general, he’s been terrible.
Wow, someone from the bullpen has back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. And on just 22 pitches.
Like an actual pitcher, you know, pitching the way actual pitchers pitch when they’re actual pitchers and, you know, actually pitching.
Weird.
Gotta figure he gets the ninth, as well.
I forgot Hill. I’m okay with Hill finishing this off, so Chivilli will be available on Sunday.
Wells and his battle for the Wells Line.
I wonder what the pitcher who got his butt kicked is thinking when the 2B comes in and has a 1-2-3 inning.
Especially when one of those relievers has the fifth most saves of all-time!
Tim Hill, don’t mess around.
Fourteen hits in one game; not that long ago it took them five games to accumulate that many hits.
Almost as many hits as they had strikouts in each of those two games.
Nice, Shoe!
So apparently they won this game.
Cool.
They scored more earned runs off of Rasmussen in this game than they have scored off of him in their entire history against him before this game. WOW!
Just checked in at MLB.com on my laptop, and for some reason Ohtani is the top story. Not Ben Rice and his 2 HRs. They do have Rice’s 2nd HR video below that, but the Ohtani obsession makes one wonder.
Ohtani is the most famous player in baseball, right? It’s not much odder than that.
The Dodgers aren’t playing today, they just made up a story so they could put him [Ohtani] on top of the page. And it has been MLB’s propaganda making him the “most famous”, they never stop at MLB.com.
Actually, under Ohtani I see Caminero’s video.
They win but Boone is still an idiot using his two long relievers for a combined 3 innings. And using Bird at all, but that’s on our idiot GM for having him on the team.
And yes this team looks better when their hitters hit. Especially their big hitters like Rice.
Not going to Yarbs after Blackburn left was INEXPLICABLE.
Yanks GM offers vote of confidence: ‘I think Boone does a great job’.

I believe they said later during the game that they WERE now approving Stanton to start running again.
But he didn’t reinjure himself, he suffered a new calf injury.
Yeah, the second calf injury was a SEPARATE calf injury. But he’s finally going to resume running, so there’s an actual chance he might be able to return.
And that day they’ll put him on the major league roster and he’ll go 1-for-30
Stanton in a 1-30 slump has more gravity than Goldy, at least!
