I legit had no idea Kelly was that fucking old. Crazy.
In any event, in a series filled with bad pitching matchups, this might be the worst. Let’s hope that the offense shows up, because they’re going to need it!
Well, three batters in, this seems okay.
A good start like the lawyer joke.
phenom swing for the fences
First pitch swinging teeing off
Carrasco trying to get the D’Backs right back in it.
EDIT: Held them to 1.
If you’re Cookie Carrasco, you simply can’t be walking anyone. He pitches so much to contact that he can’t be giving them free bsserunners.
Two awful called strikes on Judge.
I texted my brother, “The second most famous player in baseball, and he gets the worst strike zone. Make it make sense.”
It is year-after-year nonsense.
TPTG!
He really isn’t a bad fourth outfielder on defense alone. If he hits at all, watch out!
Gets a five run lead, promptly walks the number three hitter to lead off the next inning. What are you DOING, Cookie?!
Cookie crumbling
Carrasco trying to get them back in it v.2.
It’s so maddening. You’re 38, how do you not know what you need to do?! If a good hitter gets a hit off of you, then fair enough! But don’t fucking walk anyone! You’re not Blake fucking Snell!
I must be underestimating how much protection Jazz affords Judge.
Perfect. timing.
And that’s why you can’t walk Judge.
TSBR!
TSAJ!
Manufactured runs!
And as Jazz demonstrates, homers are also an efficient method of manufacturing runs.
I guess Jazz can continue batting cleanup.
Carrasco may be on the mound tonight, but it appears Kelly is the one who’s tossing cookies.
You better not walk the leadoff batter, Cookie!
You’re killing me, Yarbrough, just throw fucking strikes!
This is fucking madness.
Oh great, bring Leiter in with the bases loaded. Smrt managing.
The Aaron Boone Experience Featuring Herman Menderchuk.
One of the worst innings of relief pitching I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen Clay Holmes pitch.
How about ceasing all this fuckin’ around? Could we do that?
And I thought my retirement accounts took a beating today
Remember, the Yankees have not won a game since the tariffs
These reciprocal runs allowed are going to KILL US.
In the context of bridge and whist, a “yarborough” is a hand containing no card higher than a nine, meaning it’s a hand with no aces, tens, jacks, queens, or kings.
Similarly in baseball
So, up 9-3, he walks the first two batters, single, then 💥 Nice job, Yarbrough.
Cashman loves signing guys off the scrap heap.
Yarbrough is not a guy off of the scrap heap. Ottavino and Carrasco are, though.
He was released by Toronto and then by their minor league affiliate. That’s kind of scrap heap.
He opted out of the minor league deal to sign with the Yankees. He’s coming off a very strong season. It was just a really odd move by the Blue Jays.
Martian now hitting 094 as a RHB. On YES its like he’s better from the left side.
Good for Escarra, but it’s such a cocktease.
Beeks is like Jesse Orosco vs the Yankees LHBs and switch hitters.
Rice just looks fucking LOST against lefties.
Boone…learned something?!
I wonder if he reads this site. This is exactly what we said he should have done Tuesday
Do they bring in a lefty for The Martian?
Oh, Martian, that would have been great to get an extra run there.
Ugh, top of the order up in the ninth. This is scary.
Yay, win.
Shoulda woulda coulda been 2 out of 3.
Judge has more RBIs in 6 games than the Braves had runs in 7. On pace for Uhhh…ahhhh..,a lot!
5 HR in 6 games is only a 135 HR pace. Shocking how dramatically he’s fallen off from the 243 HR pace he was on after 2 games, he’s only on an 81 HR pace since then. But he could get hot again. I think he probably finishes the year with 100-110 HR.
Aaron judge is the third-fastest Yankees payer to 500 XBHs (999 games) Joe DiMaggio (853) and Lou Gehrig (874).
Ruth was faster, but since he started with the Bosox they aren’t counting that, plus, it would be unfair.
Nice start by Nestor as the Reds lose their 3rd straight 1-0 game. The first time since 1960 that a team has lost 3 straight 1–0 games, 6th time overall (the other 4 were the ‘dead ball’ era).
It’s pretty wild watching a no doubt Hall of Famer in action. Like, when have we seen it in the last 30 years?
Maybe Jeter, but his defense was SO bad I kind of discounted him. I guess Mussina but really he wasn’t a lock until the electorate changed. Cone OUGHT to be in but was not a lock. Johnson and Clemens but it wasn’t like we watched their careers and of course Clemens isn’t in though he should be.
Mo, but you never know with relievers–but yeah I guess we knew.
It’s still different watching a giant of a man hit for amazing triple slash numbers and fake centerfield.
A-Rod wasn’t THAT long ago.
The way memes change. NO ONE was saying Judge was a bad CF until the Dodger Stadium injury, after which he was clearly instructed to be hyper-cautious. In fact, the wisdom was the reverse – that he makes all the plays you expect (valuable in itself), and sometimes more.
Nor do I remember tons of games (one – sure) where Judge made an obviously bad play that contributed to a loss.
I just don’t see any reason to believe the older meme is false and new meme-shift is true.
Highest slugging % thru six games

They don’t make 38 year olds like they used to.
Sarah Langs: With Carlos Carrasco and Adam Ottavino, this is the first time the Yankees have used two pitchers age 38+ in a game since 9/22/13, with Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera
I believe the proper reading is: “Now we know that the managerial loss of the previous game was NOT because they’re unwilling to use a good pitcher on a cold day to pitch in two innings,” which leaves the more probable explanation of “This is Boone doing what he’s done for all the years we’ve been watching him do that.”
…
(It would have been odd reasoning, anyway, because what would you say about starters – they come out 5 or 6 times or more after breaks on cold days? Anyway…)
Four pm game today at Pittsburgh
