    1. Yup. I was thinking that there is no hitting loss since either Wells and Trevino will likely go hitless. But Trevino can’t throw, so this might be very bad.
      Boone strikes again!

  1. The thing that drives me nuts about the Freeman stuff is that he WAS hurt. He’s not hurt NOW. So they keep acting like he’s hobbled out there when his ankle obviously healed during the time off. It’s just silly. He’s a very good hitter who is now healthy.

That doesn’t make his home runs less impressive, as he’s been very impressive, but it’s not Kirk fucking Gibson.

  2. The problem is a team that should have a massive budget, trotting out a jabroni like Schmidt to start game 3 of the f’ing world series. What an indictment.

    1. Come on, Schmidt had a great season. He just sucked here. How many stars have we seen suck for the Yankees over the years in the playoffs (Clemons, Pettitte, etc.)?

    1. Ohtani crushed a home run off of Schmidt last season in the first inning, and I truly think that Schmidt was thinking about that homer during his first at-bat.

  3. Jesus fucking Christ, Judge, why do you keep embarrassing yourself?!

It’s one thing to strike out, but to continue to strike out on bad pitches is absurd.

Does NO ONE have a scouting report on what the Dodger pitchers are doing OVER AND OVER again?

  4. More great announcing. When this happens, pitchers aren’t as afraid to throw to you?
That strike 3, like most of them, was wELL OUT OF THE ZONE.
What, exactly, was the pitcher not afraid of?

  5. What’s it gonna be like … 40 minutes until the top of the lineup comes up again and there’s any kinda hope for something good to happen? Can just check back then and hope it’s not 8-0 by then.

  6. Clarke Schmidt wasn’t afraid to miss the zone on the first two pitchers of this inning before getting Smith to fly out. Clearly Smith’s fault.

  7. Anyone else seeing a discrepancy between the broadcast and gameday, vis the pitch location ?

It’s almost like they have gameday juiced to agree with the call, not where the telemetry had the ball.

  8. This won’t happen but Waldo against a RHP would provide more offense than phenom who looks overmatched. They sat Wells but would not sit phenom. What has phenom done since May that guarantees him a start?

    1. Sure but this team can’t afford another automatic out. I’d start Waldo, then bring in phenom for defense.
      This team can not hit.

    1. Yet he’s played nearly every game in 2023-2024. This is sabotage by the saboteur Cashman. The same saboteur who has had weak benches for years.

    1. Yeah, as I said a few days ago, Boras will point out that Soto is a gold glove finalist (maybe he even wins it). So a season more in RF at least, if Hal signs him.

  9. “This consultation on the mound is brought to you by…”
and we should be grateful, because there’s nothing we want to see more of.
    So dumb.

    1. Because he knows that his squad is only good for 1.5 runs and if he gives up another it’s a laugher.

      lotta pressure.

  10. Susan: they’ve really made him work…
The way they’ve made him issue 4-pitch walks and generally throw a ton of balls – how did the Dodgers do that, again?

  11. What this tells you is that when all the players who MIGHT break out and help you fail, and all the consistently good players you rely one fail, and all the players who you don’t expect much from fail, you generally don’t play your best.

    1. Such a weird choke job by Schmidt. I honestly didn’t expect it from him. Them hitting a home run or two? Sure, that happens, but this complete collapse? Nope, didn’t see that coming.

  12. The 1976 team had an excuse for getting swept. They won right around midnight, celebrating into Friday morning, and game 1 was the next day, in the afternoon.

  13. Wow, look at them working the count, taking all those pitches nowhere near the strike zone.
I guess Judge would have swung at half of them, though.

  14. If there’s any consistency to life, this will get overturned (even though you can’t see his hand under the catcher’s leg and in a cloud of dirt).

    1. So does Hill, though.

But yes, agreed. I guess Nestor has to pitch the rest of the game, right? Heck, if it somehow gets to Game 7, perhaps Nestor can get the start.

  15. RAB: Freddie Freeman has three home runs in the last three games, which is three more home runs than Yankees’ first basemen have since July 31st.

    1. Yeah, I like the send with two out. Throws are offline all the time, just didn’t happen this time. Good sign for Volpe hanging in against the sweeper though.

I’m starting to think they might not win this series …

  16. How is this only a 3 game deficit? Seems like it should be more.
How have the Yankees done as well as zero runs? Seems like it should be less.

    1. The reason to use Nestor is he might give you two or three so you could get to Kahnle and Weaver

  17. Susan: this team isn’t built to win 2-1 games.
As in – they way they won most of their games in the first half, as the starters almost never gave up more than 2 runs.

  18. Well, good night folks. If anyone can pull off a miracle, it’s you guys. I have faith in you.
I mean, it’s not like THEY’RE going to win it. But you might root them to a win.

  19. The game is lost but by using his bullpen the way he played a Boone is losing tomorrow’s game too.
4 more years of this idiot? After all he “took” them to the WS! Sheesh. Despite him not because of him.
And cashman might now have a job for life. Good grief.

  20. I love how they’re doing this the most frustrating way possible. Fall behind early, so we know they won’t win, but not by so much that you can COMPLETELY discount the chances of them coming back.

Then, get ahead in every at-bat, and take most of them to three balls, just before you make out. It’s deviously ingenious.

  21. Marginal but I think he’s got to swing. Using Wells was a total white flag. Use Jasson or Waldo. You’d think two months of hitting 120 would lead Boone to use a different pinch hitter.

Boone and Cash woulda stuck with Woemack and let Cano rot.

  22. It seems weird to me that they don’t use ONLY the highest rated umpires in the World Series. Do other sports use best refs in the playoffs? A fucking joke.

  23. They must have worked in the NFL for at least five seasons and have previously worked in the playoffs.

The NFL grades each official’s calls during the season, and the highest-rated officials are selected for the Super Bowl.

  24. That Boone used Wells to pinch hit is typical stupidity. If Wells was 0/100 Boone woulda still used him. And does anybody in the FO wonder why phenoms 1 and 2 have regressed so much.

  25. I woulda preferred a shutout. Now we gotta hear Boone saying how much he loved the compete. Maybe humiliation woulda spurred them to get rid of Boone.

  26. Well, they still did better in getting to the WS than I thought they would.

As usual, Boone’s unwillingness to use Dominguez over Wells is beyond comprehension.

  27. Jomboy: The Yankees watched 24 four-seam fastballs go by for called strikes tonight
That’s the most by them in a single game this season.
It’s the 2nd most by any team this season (Nats had 27 on May 4th)

Katie Sharp: And only one other team has done that in a postseason game since 2008 (Red Sox in 2017 ALDS Game 1 vs Astros)

    Doesn’t seem good.

  28. Their sad lineup was exposed in the ALDS and ALCS, but they got many breaks in both those series to propel them to winning them. No breaks in 3 games here, down 3-0 in games because they have too many holes in the lineup.

I’m sure they feel clever that Verdugo put lipstick on the pig that was game 3 with that ninth inning HR.
