“You mocked me for pinch-hitting Jose Trevino against a left-handed pitcher, so how about I just START him against a righty! How do you like THEM apples?”
How many SB for the Dodgers with Trevino catching? Early and often, unless he’s had a bionic arm replacement.
Yup. I was thinking that there is no hitting loss since either Wells and Trevino will likely go hitless. But Trevino can’t throw, so this might be very bad.
Boone strikes again!
Higgy and Wells would have been nice.
they never gave ben rice an inning at catcher for some reason…. another win
Except for Ohtani, they don’t run much.
Rowson on Judge they’re pitching him well. One pitch at a time. Now I understand. Rowson’s been hanging out with Boone too much.
The Yankees have apparently increased their chase rate on breaking ball pitches by, like, 50%!
YIkes! Brian. And it shows.
Judge Chase rate 18.7% to 28.7%
double jinx
Let the RISP Fail begin for game 3.
Cole will not go in game 4. So, four and out?
Clarke Schmidt is no Whitey Ford, Don Larson, Ron Guidry or David Cone.
Smoltz looks way too happy
If that’s not incentive for NYA, I don’t know what will be.
Who was the guy I turned off for the national anthem?
Leslie Odom jr
Thanks, although question still stands.
I heard it was gonna be Diddy but something came up
Roll call for Jeter and Arod
https://x.com/mlbonfox/status/1851037853083488716?s=61&t=fhOaqwtc8q2TMSXUDRjPeg
That was pretty awesome.
One-armed Ohtani hits at least 1 HR.
My wife’s aunt sent me a many years old meme about Luke Voit if you want to know how things are going
Is he available to manage?
I hope I can find my early season form in criticizing this team to inspire them to victory.
It’s over.
Schmidt, please.
Why is Holmes starting?
These umps are so bad
Yes, but the umpire does
AS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
suck.
Nice choke job, Schmidt.
Jesus tittyfucking Christ.
RIP Yankees season
First baseman that hit home runs? I thought first baseman only played defense.
The thing that drives me nuts about the Freeman stuff is that he WAS hurt. He’s not hurt NOW. So they keep acting like he’s hobbled out there when his ankle obviously healed during the time off. It’s just silly. He’s a very good hitter who is now healthy.
That doesn’t make his home runs less impressive, as he’s been very impressive, but it’s not Kirk fucking Gibson.
The problem is a team that should have a massive budget, trotting out a jabroni like Schmidt to start game 3 of the f’ing world series. What an indictment.
Come on, Schmidt had a great season. He just sucked here. How many stars have we seen suck for the Yankees over the years in the playoffs (Clemons, Pettitte, etc.)?
Truly suboptimal.
Except for the 4-pitch walk to the guy with the semidislocated arm and the home run, not a bad first inning for Schmidt.
Ohtani crushed a home run off of Schmidt last season in the first inning, and I truly think that Schmidt was thinking about that homer during his first at-bat.
Otherwise, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln.
If you ignore all the times Schmidt sucked, he was still pretty mediocre.
Seriously? All the first half he was pretty awesome.
Eh, he’s still a better option than Stroman.
Well, getting it over early is probably a good idea.
We are 100% going to see Nestor in this game.
Assuming you’re still watching after the 4th.
Which is increasingly unlikely.
For his career LHBs hit 822 against Schmidt, much better this year at 689.
How good has Gleyber been since he’s been leading off? I really never thought I’d ever again like this guy hitting.
Eagerly awaiting the first RISP fail. That assumes they get base runners to second or third. They may just wilt in front of us.
how did Judge miss that first pitch?
He’s still messed up.
So Judge didn’t have an uppercut all season?
=Of course he did, morons.
These announcers have been worse than the umps
Another Dodger starter who looks like ass. Sure would be nice to bury one of these guys.
Yeah, it’s so fucking frustrating.
They still keep getting Judge to expand his zone. It’s annoying.
That was just awful.
Judge getting his first K out of the way early.
Jesus fucking Christ, Judge, why do you keep embarrassing yourself?!
It’s one thing to strike out, but to continue to strike out on bad pitches is absurd.
Does NO ONE have a scouting report on what the Dodger pitchers are doing OVER AND OVER again?
1/21 against breaking balls
Way to respond, wilters.
More great announcing. When this happens, pitchers aren’t as afraid to throw to you?
That strike 3, like most of them, was wELL OUT OF THE ZONE.
What, exactly, was the pitcher not afraid of?
What’s it gonna be like … 40 minutes until the top of the lineup comes up again and there’s any kinda hope for something good to happen? Can just check back then and hope it’s not 8-0 by then.
Six Greatest Dodger pitchers all time in order Koufax, Flaherty, Kershaw, Buehler, Hershiser, Drysdale
You left out Yamamoto.
It’s no big deal guys, win or lose we’re all getting ice cream after the game. Just have fun.
JUST KIDDING I AM GOING TO GO APESHIT ON RODON’S WIFE IF THEY LOSE
more jokes.
That Geico commercial about the dumb things people do in horror films is very good, but it’s fascinating how long it has remained a staple in the rotation.
The Hersey Kisses “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” commercial says hello.
Clarke Schmidt wasn’t afraid to miss the zone on the first two pitchers of this inning before getting Smith to fly out. Clearly Smith’s fault.
Willie Mays only hit 182 in the 1951 WS. Of course he was only 20.
“Okay, now that the game is over, I can pitch well.”
Thanks, Schmidt!
Pretty sad that two runs has put this game out of reach.
Mantle hit 120,133 in back to back World Series.
Will Verdugo ground out more to the right side than Judge strikes out tonight? Stay tuned.
Two runs for the 2024 Yankees =five runs most Yankee World Series teams. Where’s our Jim Leyritz?
Nice 3-1 swing, Jazz, you dick!
Jazz’ll get on that. Just missed this one. No biggie, all the time in the world.
“Mantle hit 120,133 in back to back World Series.”
In how many postseason series again?
Judge is under the Mendoza line in some 249 post season PA’s.
So … outside in the zone is a ball to Schmidt, outside three inches off the plate is a strike for Buehler. Tremendous.
Two clearly missed calls, strike a ball against Schmidt, ball a strike for Buehler.
Yeah, that one really irked me.
Mowing themselves down again.
Is this going to be like this to make it extra painful? Get to three balls on every hitter before he puts them away?
If all their struggling pitcher “suddenly look like the old” whoever they are, it may not be the struggling pitchers.
They just get really pumped up to pitch in Yankee Stadium. Tha’ts all.
If this lineup faced prime Koufax, could they get negative hits? The first -1 hitter in history.
6-9, 3/30, about where they should be. Cash has sure GMed depth.
Fantastic. Impressive. JFC.
Ooooof
Quite the swing there, Rizzo.
Anyone else seeing a discrepancy between the broadcast and gameday, vis the pitch location ?
It’s almost like they have gameday juiced to agree with the call, not where the telemetry had the ball.
This won’t happen but Waldo against a RHP would provide more offense than phenom who looks overmatched. They sat Wells but would not sit phenom. What has phenom done since May that guarantees him a start?
Play way better defense than anyone else on the roster can.
IDK, I thought Peraza looked great.
Sure but this team can’t afford another automatic out. I’d start Waldo, then bring in phenom for defense.
This team can not hit.
Smart, smart walk, Schmidt.
4-pitch walks – there’s just no excuse for that. 4-pitch walks are not the Dodgers’ discipline.
Thing about phenom, past low A ball he never did anything to indicate he would be a star. Hes always been overrated.
Yet he’s played nearly every game in 2023-2024. This is sabotage by the saboteur Cashman. The same saboteur who has had weak benches for years.
Oh, come the F on.
Wait, why would Ohtani bother swinging?
Just switched to the NY radio audio.
Soooo much better.
Not good, but sooooooooooooooooo much better!
That was a strike for Buehler about 13 pitches ago.
Wow, that fucking SUCKED.
Incredible.
Add luck to the Yankees sucking.
RUN TO THE FUCKING BALL
If the Yankees re-sign Soto does judge move to LF in Yankees stadium?
Judge to RF, Soto to first base.
I think Soto to first makes sense eventually. Gotta sign him first and let him play right for one more season, though.
Yeah, as I said a few days ago, Boras will point out that Soto is a gold glove finalist (maybe he even wins it). So a season more in RF at least, if Hal signs him.
Further pain
Outside of the shitty four pitch walk, every single thing in this inning has been just bad luck for the Yankees.
Okay, he’s also pitching like shit to Freeman, too.
Cashman has hurt this team on a macro level, Boone does it daily on a micro level.
“This consultation on the mound is brought to you by…”
and we should be grateful, because there’s nothing we want to see more of.
So dumb.
It’s weird, because Schmidt didn’t pitch scared like this in the ALDS or the ALCS, so why NOW?
Because he knows that his squad is only good for 1.5 runs and if he gives up another it’s a laugher.
lotta pressure.
Schmidt is no Ford, Larson, Guidry or Cone and the Yankee World Series 5-9 are not Yankee 5-9 World Series hitters.
This is actually all the Yankees in their halloween costumes. They’re dressed as a team much worse than they were.
Pretty scary.
Isn’t it just possible that the Dodger pitching is not better but the Yankee hitters suck?
Very possible.
So very possible.
This sucks
Susan: they’ve really made him work…
The way they’ve made him issue 4-pitch walks and generally throw a ton of balls – how did the Dodgers do that, again?
The Yankees were life and death to beat KC and Cleveland, they’re worse than LA, San Diego, Phillies and the mutts.
I don’t disagree with using Leiter here, but any more runs, and it’s GOTTA be Stroman.
Absolutely. Stroman HAS to soak up like 4 innings in this game.
Oh, he’ll soak ’em up, while allowing 4 or 5 more runs.
I’m out. Good luck.
Season on line you turn to Leiter?
One of Cashman’s trade deadline gems.
Schmidt just crumpled.
His confidence is in tact.
70 pitches in and not out of the 3rd ? Yikes.
What this tells you is that when all the players who MIGHT break out and help you fail, and all the consistently good players you rely one fail, and all the players who you don’t expect much from fail, you generally don’t play your best.
On the positive side I’m so glad Schmidt is such asupremely confident baseball pitcher.
How can that POSSIBLY be your first pitch entering the game with the bases loaded?
What in the world are you doing, Leiter?!?
I’d rather see anyone else, even Nestor.
Nestor makes sense for a couple of innings tonight. But I don’t mind using a short man right there, to keep it 3-0.
Okay, so long as it is “just” a three-run game, you gotta stick with the short men. Figure Leiter for two?
Supremely confident pitcher issues 4 walks in 2.2 innings. But he didn’t choke at all.
Such a weird choke job by Schmidt. I honestly didn’t expect it from him. Them hitting a home run or two? Sure, that happens, but this complete collapse? Nope, didn’t see that coming.
Agree, Brian.
Wow, a Yankee batter taking a terrible swing to strike out on a breaking ball!? CRAZY!
This is what we’ve seen. The Yankees suck early, giving the Dodgers pitchers confidence, and then they ACTUALLY start pitching well. That Verdugo at-bat was excellent by Buehler.
Gleyber wondering why all these jerks get to play on the same team with him and what they’re doing in the World Series.
And yeah, Stroman only pitches if it’s a five-run game.
Gleyber with 2 more total bases than the entire team.
Why doesn’t Verducci ask Boone why the Yankees suck so much at hitting.
Mowing themselves down.
Dodgers swept the Yankees in 1963 with Koufax, Podres, Drysdale and Koufax again. That was understandable.
The 1976 team had an excuse for getting swept. They won right around midnight, celebrating into Friday morning, and game 1 was the next day, in the afternoon.
That was a great Red’s team.
Wow, look at them working the count, taking all those pitches nowhere near the strike zone.
I guess Judge would have swung at half of them, though.
My wife’s son is at the game. Oh to be 25 and at the World Series enjoying a total shit show.
LOL Walking Lux, and on 5-piches. Yeah, what an act. Our great trade deadline addition. Cashman, the saboteur.
Quite the promising beginning to this game.
It began poorly and quickly went downhill from there.
If there’s any consistency to life, this will get overturned (even though you can’t see his hand under the catcher’s leg and in a cloud of dirt).
Enjoy that upheld call. The great Yankee moment in this game.
Although he probably WAS safe.
The Yankees 2024 WS Highlight. YES Network will build it into a 20-minute film.
We’ve said it for the last 4 months of the season – this is a 0.500 team. They’ll finish the postseason 7-6.
Extending the torture.
Nestor or Hill?
Boone: Look at me manage, ma, top of the world.
Man. I don’t know how well Nestor will do, or how poorly, but at least he goes out there and pitches like a professional pitcher.
So does Hill, though.
But yes, agreed. I guess Nestor has to pitch the rest of the game, right? Heck, if it somehow gets to Game 7, perhaps Nestor can get the start.
Yep.
Nestor, if only last Friday.
Good question: “Can his offense pick up where Cortes left off?” Too bad that didn’t happen Friday.
If Nestor could have done that on Friday……
RAB: Freddie Freeman has three home runs in the last three games, which is three more home runs than Yankees’ first basemen have since July 31st.
How did that ball not go anywhere?
I really thought he was going to smash one when it counted least (with no one on).
And Stanton says: I can equal Gleyber!
Better to be lucky than good.
And much, much worse to be neither.
Yankees are playing 3 on 9. It’s like Jordan, Pippen, and Cartwright vs Ewing’s Knicks.
That was… almost poetic.
Whatever.
They even got the elusive “hit with a run in scoring position.”
Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaainful.
I love celebrating like throwing Stanton out was something special. Idiots.
Shallow left field and Stanton running. Isn’t that his second terrible send this post season? Off the bat I thought no way.
But honestly, let’s say they hold Stanton at third, Rizzo ain’t getting a hit, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Yeah, I like the send with two out. Throws are offline all the time, just didn’t happen this time. Good sign for Volpe hanging in against the sweeper though.
I’m starting to think they might not win this series …
Rizzo was hitting against Cleveland. What happened to everyone?
He didn’t have to make a good play, he just needed to not throw the ball away to nab Stanton. Where’s Larry Bowa?
Really, that’s enough. Why would anybody watch this after that?
Well it took 23 innings before they had someone thrown out on the bases.
Bad jump and not at third base.
https://x.com/riveraveblues/status/1851079558973308967?s=61&t=fhOaqwtc8q2TMSXUDRjPeg
How is this only a 3 game deficit? Seems like it should be more.
How have the Yankees done as well as zero runs? Seems like it should be less.
It’s like that play was scripted to make Chisholm’s look just that much worse.
Damn. If they Yankees didn’t have this bad luck they’d have to rely solely on their bad play.
Verdugo with his one well-hit ball of the series and still an out.
Why would you pull Nestor?
Because you’re a terrible, terrible manager.
For the same reason we all knew they had to keep him in as long as they could.
The reason to use Nestor is he might give you two or three so you could get to Kahnle and Weaver
Rizzo is done.
Susan: this team isn’t built to win 2-1 games.
As in – they way they won most of their games in the first half, as the starters almost never gave up more than 2 runs.
A stolen base and Trevi hitless. Boone at his finest.
I guess I’ll watch one more half inning.
Who knows what new, previously unseen depths they may sink to?
triple jinx
“what new, previously unseen depths they may sink to”
I knew whereof I spoke.
Other than the Dodgers outhitting us, outfielding us and outpitching us were evenly matched.
I like Stanton.
It’s nice that I still like somebody.
Even their CTs are weak.
I was just thinking that if Chisholm smashed one to the second deck I really wouldn’t feel much more hopeful.
But, of course, he did… that.
The wife has been
naggingpolitely reminding me to fix a leaky sink, might as well go take care of it.Well, good night folks. If anyone can pull off a miracle, it’s you guys. I have faith in you.
I mean, it’s not like THEY’RE going to win it. But you might root them to a win.
Jazz reminds me of Starlin Castro, I think he could be better if he ever learns how to hit.
I just realized that it’s 4-0 not 7-0. It’s just the seventh inning. Who knew? Not me.
The game is lost but by using his bullpen the way he played a Boone is losing tomorrow’s game too.
4 more years of this idiot? After all he “took” them to the WS! Sheesh. Despite him not because of him.
And cashman might now have a job for life. Good grief.
so, just like game 1
If Jazz Chisholm’s your #5 hitter, well, you have a bad lineup.
Now is the World Series of our discontent.
I love how they’re doing this the most frustrating way possible. Fall behind early, so we know they won’t win, but not by so much that you can COMPLETELY discount the chances of them coming back.
Then, get ahead in every at-bat, and take most of them to three balls, just before you make out. It’s deviously ingenious.
Give the Martian an ab
So he pinch hits the guy who’s 1/41 instead of the Martian
Saving the Martian for Verdugo’s spot?
Dream on
Ok, this is the Rally Page
That was a ball all night.
I lied, this is the pain page.
It’s hilarious that they didn’t even bother bringing in a lefty for Wells.
Marginal but I think he’s got to swing. Using Wells was a total white flag. Use Jasson or Waldo. You’d think two months of hitting 120 would lead Boone to use a different pinch hitter.
Boone and Cash woulda stuck with Woemack and let Cano rot.
They’re going to make Gleyber end the inning, so we can’t even get the hope of having Gleyber start something in the following inning.
Ultimate CT incoming
Yankees 4/40 in the strike zone. Boone and Rowson.
Holy fucking shit, FOR SERIOUS, UMP?!!?
OMG!
It was absolutely fucking absurd. It’s like this has been designed to be the most frustrating game possible.
Awful call on Gleyber on strike 3.
Yeah, this is clearly not the Yankees’ night, eh?
That’s atrocious.
I’d just like to say, Gleyber has been AMAZING with his batting eye this whole postseason. He’s turned into mini-Soto.
It seems so weird that they’re using all of their high leverage guys in a four-run game.
It’s almost like their manager is … not good.
It seems weird to me that they don’t use ONLY the highest rated umpires in the World Series. Do other sports use best refs in the playoffs? A fucking joke.
It really is awful.
Can you feel the excitement? Me neither.
Strike 3
https://x.com/chriskirschner/status/1851097007760212036?s=61&t=fhOaqwtc8q2TMSXUDRjPeg
As someone noted, why even RANK them if they’re not going to use the fucking rankings to decide who umps the World Series?!
They must have worked in the NFL for at least five seasons and have previously worked in the playoffs.
The NFL grades each official’s calls during the season, and the highest-rated officials are selected for the Super Bowl.
Why is the NFL so much smarter than MLB?
Umpire union.
Every game Volpe. Nearly every game in 2023-2024.
I love that they’re just going to go down with Verdugo up to bat, who IS NOT EVEN GOING TO BE ON THE TEAM NEXT YEAR.
That Boone used Wells to pinch hit is typical stupidity. If Wells was 0/100 Boone woulda still used him. And does anybody in the FO wonder why phenoms 1 and 2 have regressed so much.
And now there is NO way Verdugo rests tomorrow, as he got in his meaningless home run tonight.
He was never not playing.
Verdugo putting lipstick on the pig of a game.
Step into one, Gleyber!
After Gleyber’s last out, why would he take ANY close pitch?
Was that ball 4?
I woulda preferred a shutout. Now we gotta hear Boone saying how much he loved the compete. Maybe humiliation woulda spurred them to get rid of Boone.
No, making the WS keeps CashBoone around.
Not with a bang but with a whimper.
Boone “we gotta find a way to grab one.”
Well, they still did better in getting to the WS than I thought they would.
As usual, Boone’s unwillingness to use Dominguez over Wells is beyond comprehension.
Life and death to beat KC and Cleveland.
Jomboy: The Yankees watched 24 four-seam fastballs go by for called strikes tonight
That’s the most by them in a single game this season.
It’s the 2nd most by any team this season (Nats had 27 on May 4th)
Katie Sharp: And only one other team has done that in a postseason game since 2008 (Red Sox in 2017 ALDS Game 1 vs Astros)
Doesn’t seem good.
Their sad lineup was exposed in the ALDS and ALCS, but they got many breaks in both those series to propel them to winning them. No breaks in 3 games here, down 3-0 in games because they have too many holes in the lineup.
I’m sure they feel clever that Verdugo put lipstick on the pig that was game 3 with that ninth inning HR.
