“I misspoke… Completely misread the calculations.”

Manager Mark DeRosa confirms he did not know Team USA could still be eliminated during pool play

  2. MLB distinguished itself. “ MLB Network conducted the most significant/newsworthy interview in WBC history. They had a manager saying his team had advanced when they hadn’t. And they took that video down as soon as they realized its significance and newsworthiness.”

    1. Looks like Cashman just found his next manager. Unless DeRosa gets a Cabinet post first.

And yeah, MLB Network just proved itself worthy of acquisition by an Ellison or Bezos or Murdoch.

    1. 9 up, 9 down, 6 K’s.
      32 pitches, 25 strikes.
Not bad, even as the Jays aren’t playing their MLB lineup.

  3. Cam throwing 99. Lagrange says take a seat. Betances raving about Lagrange. Fast ball 102, slider 87, sweeper 85, change 93, 102 consistently.

    1. It’s fucking amazing. Again, remember, even when Schlittler was impressing everyone, Lagrange was still ahead of him in the prospect rankings. Could they possibly have TWO young stud starters?!?

    2. Hoch: Over four dominant relief innings Wednesday, Carlos Lagrange threw 19 fastballs that AVERAGED 101.5 mph, maxing at 103.1 mph.
He was so efficient, Lagrange (42 pitches) had to empty the rest of his allotted pitch count in the bullpen after the game.

    3. What I’ve been saying since 2025, if these guys stay healthy, they have a lot of pitching talent. But health is always the name of the game with pitchers.

  4. Roto World Gerrit Cole threw a 35-pitch live bullpen session and told reporters he and the Yankees “will likely” discuss him pitching in a Spring Training game.
This is a great sign for Cole’s chances of coming back sooner rather than later, but the Yankees will likely be cautious with him and he will need to build up to be ready to pitch in the majors. Still, a late April or early May return sounds like what this is trending towards barring a setback.

    1. While his awful performance certainly played a part, I think this is mostly just about dumping long men in general, as the starters are allowed to throw more pitches. Boyd and Holmes will be gone soon, as well. So they’re adding short men.

That said, how crazy is it that Tim fucking Hill is now well-regarded enough to be a guy who gets into an All-Star Game-type scenario?!

    1. Yeah but if he stinks – like say DevW did last year – his negative WAR will help the Yankees.

  5. Setting my expectations low – I suspect Grisham will be this year’s DJLM / Donaldson figure, pressing and underperforming but getting lots of playing time through mid-August.
Meanwhile, Bellinger will get injured and they’ll try a Grichuk/Dominguez platoon, depriving Jasson of more AB’s against lefties and more practice on defense.

    1. Yeah I’m scared Grisham will revert to his mean offensively while his defense continues to deteriorate.
