  1. Who cares? If cabby wins it will just cost the yanks more money.
Nice to see Jake Bauers doing well on another team. Too bad he couldn’t do that with us.

  2. i guess besides the dodgers getting eliminated i am most excited for the time to elapse on jazz chisolm’s QO so the Yankees can be officially free of him.

    1. Hear, hear. Why, give him a good manager to keep him focused, and he could start.

Think he’s got a mutual option in Milwaukee, so no way is he coming back to New York.

  3. The Yankees are expected to extend the $23.15 million qualifying offer to free agent closer David Bednar, who had a terrific year, sources say.

Meantime, it’s believed the Yankees are unlikely to extend the same offer to second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., which would represent a shocking turn off his 30-30 2025 season.

Chisholm kindly said he’d like to be back after the Yankees’ sudden playoff exit, but word is Yankees higher-ups believe it’s time to move on following his rough season. (They may also believe he might accept, considering he said he wants to stay.)

  4. I don’t get how you don’t bring Chisholm back on the QO. I think the Grisham QO was fine, and Jazz is a better player than Grisham, so I don’t get it. I don’t even necessarily want Jazz back, but for a one-year deal at $23.15 million, that’s a totally reasonable salary allotment.

Take away Grisham’s salary and LeMahieu’s dead money, and you’re not even adding THAT much money by keeping Chisholm and Bednar around for one more year on their QOs (Bednar made $9 million last year, and Jazz made $10.2 million).

Jazz and Bednar’s QOs are $27.1 million more than they made last year, but Grisham’s $22 million will be gone, as well as LeMahieu’s dead money of $16 million.

    1. Yea but who else’s salary is going up? And how will they improve?
Of course the question is if they let Jazz leave where will they find a better 2b? So I can see why it might be worth it.

    2. The arb guys will definitely raise some salary, as well, and I imagine that that is what Cashman is thinking, that he will need Jazz’s QO salary to sign other guys, mainly Blackburn, a couple of other relievers, and Sato.

Actually, if the Yankees are truly in on Sato, then that would need much of that QO money.

Will Warren should also truly be able to get them someone good for second base or third, right?

    3. maybe, but the question is who is available for a Warren trade. I have no idea, but I hope that the guy who has been the Yankees GM longer than any other active GM in the four major sports has some ideas. I would prefer moving someone like Warren for a younger ML-ready 3B (White Sox Caleb Bonemer) than an aging vet on an expensive deal (Marte) or pending FA (Brendan Donovan). Fix this gap now since the Yankees traded away their 3B prospects who are now showing out on other teams. Unless they have an in-house plan who may need another year or so.

But Cash is going to do Cash things, so we’ll all find out together.

    4. Sato seems like the real deal, though. .306 with 39 homers and 106 RBIs in Japan this past season. It’s not MUCH of a Triple Crown, but it was still a Triple Crown.

You’d like to believe he could at least hit .260 with 20 homers here.

    5. A trade for Bonemer would be the gift that keeps giving to the headline writers.

Also, Marte seems like a sure bet for clubhouse dysfunction at best, and thrown games at worst. I’d give Jazz a QO before taking Marte (and I wouldn’t give Jazz a QO).

    6. LeMahieu’s dead money is now reincarnated as McMahon’s walking-dead money.

Of all the options, I agree with y’all that Sato seems the least-worst, and seems absolutely worth going for.

    7. stanton’s dead money walking

just those two guys make half of what the brewers paid for their squad

      *active roster

    1. Yup. It’s not like he left and immediately learned how to hit. And if he’s in fact a free agent I’d stay far away. Shades of Grisham and Hicks and others who had career years right before free agency.

    2. No but Bauers is the kind of guy who teams find on the side of the road and figure out how to use them and they give them one or two good years and then disappear. Teams don’t need Jake Bauers, but they need to hit on someone like the Brewers did with Bauers. It also shows some serious work on their part.

As a Yankee, Bauers had an rOBA of .301, which was pretty consistent and somewhat improved over his previous stops (in order: .305, .297, .268). Bauer’s highest K% was with the Yankees at 34.9% and he also logged his 2nd lowest BB% at 9.9%.

Since going to Milwaukee, they’ve obviously worked with Bauers to make improvements:
      2024: .300 rOBA, 34.1 K%, 11.3 BB%
      2025: .340 rOBA, 27.1 K%, 14.7 BB%
      2026: .381 rOBA, 27.0 K%, 16.3 BB%

His aEV improved to 92.1 mph in that time, too. And lastly, they’ve turned him into a full-time hitter. As a Yankee, Bauers had 28 PAs against LHPs with a .474 OPS. As Brewer, he’s had 35 PAs with a .680 OPS in 2024, 17 PAs with a .561 OPS and this season with 160 PAs and a .901 OPS.

Good for him. I think the Brewers are really a gold standard for how to run a franchise right now. They’re committed to replenishing their prospects whenever they can and aggressively pressure pitchers.

    1. No, Don, we cannot and will not ignore Nazis in this country. Miller is engaged in ethnic cleansing, and his secret police are committing domestic terrorism akin to the late-19th-century KKK (if it were federally supported). A majority of the GOP is engaged in the systematic dehumanization, deprivation of human rights, and gradual outlawing of entire categories of American citizens (trans, gay, Muslim, and women, to name a few). This is all to say nothing of the explicitly impeachable offenses of bribery (by corporations and foreign governments) and treason (authorizing payments to Russia despite the sanctions that were just instituted on account of its direct military support for Iran against US forces – in what is, incidentally, an illegal, unauthorized, and idiotic war of aggression; stupidity isn’t grounds for impeachment / removal, but bribery and treason are). And all of this evil – all of it – is being done for the benefit of a convicted fraudster and adjudicated sexual abuser (see Carroll v. Trump) whose extraordinary number of mentions in the Epstein files include allegations from a 13-year-old victim that the FBI found credible.

Pretending that one can simply “dump” the topic is tantamount to supporting Nazism, treason, and bribery, in service of protecting a likely pedophile. Pretending it isn’t happening doesn’t save you the embarrassment that you think it does. Pretending it isn’t happening only makes the problem worse.

    2. I’ve said my piece here and see no use in arguing with a delusional bigot. Everyone can see whose side you’re on.
