  1. Platoon-heavy lineup is risky. Peralta might have a significant conventional platoon split this year, but on his career he’s been pretty even. If Peralta has a feel for his changeup today then he could throw it to just about everybody.

I would have Caballero in for McMahon, and possibly even Ramos in for Grisham.

    1. I might agree, but at the same time it’s hard to imagine those being the key call. Any of those players can suddenly have a great game, we’ve seen it. But on average Ramos just isn’t that good or Grisham that bad that there’s a clearly better call.

    1. When you have the greatest offensive 2b since Rogers Hornsby you accept some glitches.

    1. The McMahon and Wells errors were normal screwups. Only the Jazz error stood out as being particularly bad, and Jazz is normally a good defender.

  2. I blame the long past his use-by date GM. He tolerates this type of fundamental slop and brings in guys like McMahon, signed Grisham off a career year, etc.

  3. You know, if they lose this game and therefore the series, and there’s no baseball next year, is that the entirety of the window? Judge and Cole ain’t gonna be the same players in two years.

  4. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!

  5. Kirschner “ Rays have eight hard-hit balls against Schlittler through three innings but just one run to show for it.

Rays are 0-for-8 with RISP tonight with 6 LOB.”

    1. Boone’s dampening effect is underestimated, even by us.
      He’s just the WORST.

  6. (Daltrey’s voice:)
    “They say he’s a moe-ron. The worst… I’ve eeee… ver seen………………………..
    The worst I’ve ever seeeeeen!!!!

    1. yeah, jazz took a step back at first which didn’t help but there was lots of time.

      just a brutal game.

    1. Part of it is that they had the contact play on when they had one of the best contact guys in the game at the plate, ya know? Just terrible timing.

Of course, Cam had to first give up the booming double to Caminero.

    1. Dream quickly, the second they’re eliminated someone will interview Hal and Cash, who’ll say that the players are the problem, Boone is the only bright spot, they have to give him another team, and they’re extending him until the year 9387 for umpteen gazillion dollars.

    2. on one hand that was in the world series, on the other this entire game has been a disaster.

  7. When this series is over I’ll be rooting for a TB – MIL World Series just so the owners look foolish claiming that small market teams can’t compete without a salary cap.

    1. I could totally see rooting for this Tampa Bay team. If only TB weren’t in Florida…

  8. The usual Yankees everyone should have expected; the Bosox series was the outlier.

And thanks to Aaron Judge for playing a month with a minor injury and turning it into a major one. This is one smart team. And I don’t want to hear Judge defend Boone; just shut up if asked or change the subject.

    1. But he won’t, he’ll defend Boone every chance he gets.
The thin blue line protecting us from winning.

  9. Assuming this game stays as is Boone will be 27-29 as a Yankee manager in the playoffs. While Cash and Hal can ignore this game, no way Boone should be sub 500 after 56 games.

  10. Prince Hal and Boone alike are nepo babies who don’t understand the concept of accountability.
Cashman is more of a trust fund kiddo, born with Stick Michael’s and Bob Watson’s silver spoons in his mouth.
This team will never win with any of them in charge.

    1. I just don’t see how that couldn’t have been their idea. If not, he was SO out of position that someone would have had plenty of time to tell, “Jazz, get into position!”

    1. Maybe they’ll salvage game 3 with 10 or so runs, then return to who they are in game 4.

  11. NYY Takes

2022: Lose both in Houston return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2024: Lose both in LA return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2025: lose both in Toronto return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2
2026: lose both in Tampa return to Yankee Stadium down 0-2

    1. The playoffs are a crapshoot. It’s not worth chasing home field advantage. For that matter it’s not even worth trying to build a better roster for the sake of building a better team that can win in the playoffs, even as being a better team, it also happens to win enough to earn home field advantage. Because a better team isn’t guaranteed to win a playoff series. Even if it’s demonstrably better over the course of a full season. Why bother fielding a better team? Why have a team play better baseball? The playoffs are a crapshoot.
