On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, let’s take a moment to honor all of those innocent people who were killed by the awful terrorist attacks of that day. As New York fans, obviously a lot of us were more connected to this day than most.
It was nice of Derek Jeter to show up for this celebration.
I wish this game wasn’t so important, so we could devote more of our thought process to honoring 9/11.
Be a whole lot of swinging and missing against Nolan McLean.
Yankees with some Wee Willy Keeler abs to start the game.
Look at these single hitting fools Wee Willy Keelering
I would not be surprised to see this same lineup on Opening Day 2027.
No George Wee does not hit it where they is.
Reeeeeally need to move Lombard down in the order. His approach has been terrible lately other than that grand slam.
Except for Spencer, that was some awful RISP Fail right there.
Rodon is already at 26 pitches with one out in the 2nd. And Spencer will make him work harder.
Just saw the awful pitch that Lombard swung at to hit into the DP.
It was rooooooough.
So was that weird ass Spencer error.
Thirty-five pitches through 2-innings.
So far, three LD caught off the Yankees bats. Gonna be one of those games?
The Garcia one was the most brutal. A nice line drive with the bases loaded, but right at the second baseman.
Now McLean will be at at least 36 pitches through two.
Shoulda let Judge do that
Cody! With Earl Weaver’s favorite hit.
I guess McLean now wishes that 3-1 pitch HAD been called a ball.
Outstanding play by Lombard!
I was just about to say it would be funny if the playoff infield is Jazz and Volpe, but then Lombard made THAT play.
Judge swung at ball 4. Rodon with an easy 3rd, even with a Soto single,
Volpe had 6 minor league games at 3b.
Why in the fucking WORLD did Garcia test Benge’s arm on that?
EDITED TO ADD: Looks like he might have actually been safe, but the Yankees replay guy is the worst, so they didn’t challenge. Still a terrible idea by Garcia. Leadoff hitter, just take the single.
Bosox are down 3-0 in the fourth. Rays are down 1-0, also in the fourth. Bluy Jays are down 6-0 after three.
Name That Yankee guy has gotta be Steve Karsay.
So, wait, was that a home run or what?
Defense was never Soto’s strength
Squandered opportunity to blow the game open.
Blackburn doesn’t need the work, does he? I was going to knock this decision, but then I remembered that Rodon isn’t that far removed from the IL, right?
I guess you need to give Blackburn work, as he definitely does NOT look sharp.
Geez louise, Blackburn, what in the world is happening?!
Blackburn is showing subtle signs of overuse.
You might be right. But I think it might be more a case of him suddenly getting TOO much rest.
I guess they really need to keep Blackburn ready better, as he looks just lost.
That walk was BRUTALLY bad.
Now Blackburn loads the bases with 2-outs by walking the number 9 hitter.
Just such an awful pitch by Blackburn. A total meltdown.
And in comes Headrick.
I guess that at 93 pitches and not that long off the IL was the right move with Rodon.
Is Blackburn reverting to his mean?
What are you doing, Headrick!? Soto is on deck!!
What a weird time to run on to the field.
That was ticketed for a two-run single.
Whew!
What was that?
Headrick the most surprised guy on the field.
Better lucky than good!
My brother is at the game. He’s an FDNY Captain. My wife thinks he should get one of those FDNY Yankee caps.
These walks are infuriating.
Shouldn’t Headrick have tried to throw the next pitch before the Mets had a chance to challenge?
What is a fucking swing?! And how about you throw fucking strikes, Headrick?!
The classic problem that stumped everyone from The Greeks to Shakespeare.
Headrick and Blackburn picked a fucking awful night to BOTH be terrible.
I’ll give Benge this much. Headrick shouldn’t have walked him, but Benge at least fouled off some pitches. The previous walk was much more egregious.
Win or lose their top three relievers may not be available tomorrow. Just trying to get 8 outs.
Yankee success has been reliant on Blackburn and Headrick being near perfect. Neither has the track record, especially Blackburn, to inspire confidence.
Forget being perfect, though, they were both total dog shit tonight. That was very unusual.
Since 2020 mutts 20-13 against the Yankees
The Rays win.
That sucked, to be sure, but if they were GOING to win, at least it was on a Caminero walkoff, meaning he’s two ahead of Yordan in the home run race. Don’t want other dudes to win the Triple Crown.
Garcia hit the ball hard every AB. We need him to be an everyday player the way Paulie transitioned from a platoon bat.
100% agreed. They should also not give up on him playing another position next season. He’s just too good defensively at first and has the history of playing middle infield, I find it hard to believe he can’t learn to play a passable second or third.
Who the fuck swings through on a fucking bunt?!
McMahon with the tack on run.
Holy SHIT was that bad, Wells.
He turned the wrong corner and got mugged.
Wells with RISP Fail.
That was a long corner, 0-18.
The Bosox lose.
Yikes, Bednar.
Bednar, seriously?
Wells doesn’t have enough ABs to qualify but his BA is 4 point lower than the lowest qualifier Raleigh, and 9 point s lower than the next worse. Only Nasim Nunez has a worse OPS. Is he better than Sanchez or Escarra?
Oh, he’s definitely better than Sanchez, but there’s a legit argument to be made that Escarra might be as good as him offensively. Wells is such a good defender that I don’t mind him, though.
Shaky bullpen tonight. Two guys failed miserably at getting the runner in from third, which would have been useful.
They should’ve hit for Wells who is the worst hitter in baseball.
A banner day for the pen
Soto, DP, yay win.
That was amazing.
Yankees and Rays win, Blue Jays and Bosox lose.
