Even with the reduced sample size due to missing more than two months with a bone bruise in his pitching elbow, it feels unfathomable that Max Fried entered Thursday without a win at Yankee Stadium this season. After a stunning 8-2 record and a 2.37 ERA in the Bronx in 2025, it seems that this fact is more of an unlucky quirk, given how he’s performed at home (3.45 ERA in five outings), especially as of late.
Since returning from the injured list, Fried had tossed two scoreless outings at Yankee Stadium, the most recent being a brilliant 6 1/3-inning showing against the Braves this past Friday, in which he retired the final 12 batters that he faced. On Thursday, he pitched well enough against the Mariners to finally reap the benefits of some home cooking, but the Yankees’ bats fell silent in a 1-0 loss. Fried battled through five innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four batters and walking two.
Another pathetic offensive performance by the Yankees, who fucked Max Fried out what should have been a win. Logan Gilbert didn’t even pitch THAT well, he just was bailed out by some choking, some lucky calls (three strikeouts came on pitches that sure seemed to be balls, but were called strikes on successful challenges by Pereda, who had a hell of a game behind the plate on challenges), some unlucky batted balls (a number of line drives right at guys), and some bad luck with Trent Grisham getting called out because his foot barely left the bag on what would have been 2nd and 3rd with one out (of course, knowing the Yankees, neither of those runners would have scored).
But, in the end, there was Jazz Chisholm being absolutely MANHANDLED in a strikeout by Munoz, who made it look like Jazz was a little kid he was pitching to. Pathetic.
The Yankees now get the red-hot Blue Jays (who might now be the third Wild Card without a winning record! If so, they would then get a much better matchup in the first round than the Yankees if the Yankees are the first or second Wild Card. So fucking annoying), and they might very well be tied with the Red Sox as of Sunday night.

They’re not lucky if they really were strikes, getting the calls right is the way it should be.
They’re lucky if most catchers wouldn’t have challenged them. Heck, even on REPLAYS they looked outside.
On the contrary. If they weren’t challenged, the Yankees would have been lucky, benefitting from a wrong call.
These are just the right calls. They were strikes and they SHOULD be strikes.

Yeah, when you’re coming back from TJS and you have a setback, that’s usually berry berry bad.
With Judge, the rib just has to fully heal before he can do ANYthing, and then it’ll be three weeks from that point. So you have to basically hope it heals by, like, the end of August, so he at least gets a week of actual games before they head to the AL Central team for the Wild Card game as the #6 seed.

By the way, if I had to pick, of COURSE I’d pick the Yankees having home field for the Red Sox in the Wild Card round, but man, being on the road to face Chicago in the Wild Card round sure doesn’t seem that imposing, ya know? And then getting the Astros rather than the Rays in the ALDS.
As an aside, “Yeah, the Yankees made the World Series in 2024, but they only beat AL Central teams” is probably the douchiest position possibe, as the Yankees only played AL Central teams because the AL Central teams BEAT the Astros and the other AL East teams before the Yankees faced them.
