This is a tough, tough stretch of games heading into the trade deadline. Let’s hope they manage through it, and then, of course, add some useful hitters at the deadline. They REALLY need to add a righthanded outfielder with Belli on the shelf (you hope that Jones can help against righties).

This is just the worst possible inning. Lucky hit by Grichuk, TERRIBLE play by Jazz to not get him at second for the first out, bad play by Spencer on the next hit, bad luck on the Montgomery single, INSANELY bad job by the Yankee replay guy to not catch that Murakami was out, then terrible luck with Schuemann slipping on the wet outfield, likely injuring Schuemann.

This happened to Cole, his first 2 games were great, the next few not so much.
You can’t afford to give an ace like Noah Schultz one run, let alone 3.
Binder if you have one guy hitting over 270 it’s hard to chip away.
I did not remember that Grichuk was 5 for his last 15 after little to no Spring Training. Why did Cashman sign the guy if he wasn’t going to give him a chance and the Yankee farm system was so bare?
He’d probably have gotten injured with the Yankees.
When you had a full roster, a righty-only fourth outfielder made some sense over just carrying Dominguez. Once you lost Stanton, there was no reason not to have Dominguez on the team, and there wasn’t room for Dominguez and Grichuk.
I wanted to keep him at the time and just go without a backup shortstop, but I get the logic.
He’s thrown almost as many pitches in less than two innings than he threw in five innings last time!
Crazy.
Sometimes you just don’t have it. I don’t think Fried had it tonight. He doesn’t seem hurt, he just isn’t locating.
It’s like a lot of these batters have just given up. There’s no spark in them, no way you can be this bad and not have given up.
Some of them probably know they won’t be in this lineup next week.

They DIDN’T show the call where Murakami should have been out.

And finally – man, they just can’t get enough of Ali Sanchez and his first home run. How we were all waiting for that home run! It’s such a big deal, such a warm fuzzy feeling. After all, Ali Sanchez is America’s sweetheart. Everybody loves Ali Sanchez. I mean, give it a brief mention and move on, who gives a flying f?
Doval is a good guy to use up 5. He got 4 outs without allowing 5 runs, right?
But yeah if you have a guy that can’t go long and can only be trusted with a 5 run lead…then he’s gotta go.
Volpe had a great game until he didn’t. That play reminded me of the Arod pop up dropped by Castillo. That turned Met win into a loss. This one only cost them the use of Bednar the next day or two (so maybe two lossses!)
As much as this lineup needs actual hitters, I’ve come around to the notion that it would be equally important to have a Mason Miller. As the Bronx Beat podcast noted, if your closer strikes everyone out, you’re no longer relying on your AAA defenders to make plays in the 9th inning.
Who would you give up for him? Who wouldn’t you give up for him?
Would hope to get Miller in return for ERC + Hess + (either Dominguez or Jones). Would try not to lose the both of Dominguez and Jones, and would not want to send Lombard since I think he’s already a better choice for SS than Volpe or Caballero. But maybe that’s wishful thinking since Miller’s got team control for another few years.
