With this sorry lineup and fill-in starter, and the Reds’ young star pitcher going, this is basically a punt by Boone ahead of the road trip.
Wells making a difference right away.
With two outs, I guess there’s no chance at a fourth blown chance at a double play this inning.
Can’t believe they didn’t give up a run that inning.
So much luck (good and bad) went into that 1/2 inning!
Elmer 17/21 strikes
I was just thinking how nice it was they were making him through at least a few pitches.
Thanks, Jones.
I would DEFINITELY have challenged that. They need every out, every added pitch. There was a chance there.
Cabby is not a great base stealer any more….
How did he hit THAT?
Neck high!
Uncle Ben strikes again!
The inning after the Yankees score, of course. It’s all Rice’s fault. If he hadn’t hit that home run, Elmer wouldn’t have had to fold this inning.
He looked good for a while
It’s odd they never take third (delayed) on that play (the ground ball to the left side). Once the throw is made, can they really easily make the LONG throw from 3rd to first, then the LONG throw from first to third, and be clearly able to get a fast runner out? Wouldn’t preparing for the throw back make it less likely that the 1st baseman would handle the ball well? Wouldn’t watching the guy on 2nd create a chance of the throw from 3rd to first gets screwed up?
The timing must be more in the defense’s favor than it seems to me, but it really seems like something worth doing.
Also, as many times as they say it, I cannot believe that coming in feet first is as fast.
These last two games have been SUPER embarrassing for the offense. They get runners on, they advance to scoring position, and just NO ONE can get a hit with a runner on. They’re 0 for the last TWO GAMES with runners in scoring position (I think they’re probably only slightly better than 0 in terms of even getting a hit at ALL with runners NOT in scoring position).
This is probably more a fluke than anything, but it’s still messed up.
You’re f*ing kidding me.
Why would you EVERY pinch-hit Schueman for Jones?
Schumann can’t get that note out of his head. Hard to concentrate.
Five plus eras in the NL are tough
Hoch The Yankees just played a ground ball into a runner at third with none out, which pretty much sums up this game so far.
I’m not home. Is this accurate.
Losing 3 of the last 4 at home, ungood.
Amazingly, with this match-up, they really pitched well enough to win.,
And it’s not as if they couldn’t HIT, they did HIT.
They can HIT, they just can’t SCORE.
Chivilli and Lagrange each with a scoreless, 2K inning. Which means Y Cruz will come up for Elmer on a short term basis. Of interest this is the first time they actually used Lagrange for one inning which was the plan all along.
Waldo hitting 387/978 for June. He’s probably an upgrade on Schumann.
