From Bill Ladson:
There was good news and bad news for the Yankees on Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
Left-hander Ryan Weathers had his best outing of the season, but New York’s bats remained freezing cold as left-hander Jeffrey Springs was dealing in the Athletics’ 1-0 win. It was the first series loss for the Yankees this year.
Springs threw darts throughout the game. In fact, he had a no-hitter going until Ben Rice singled to right field with one out in the seventh to put runners on first and second. The runners advanced to second and third on a double steal with two outs, but Springs got Austin Wells to fly out to left fielder Tyler Soderstrom to end the threat.
Well, THAt sucked.
Hopefully they’ll find their offense in Tampa Bay.
Getting better offensive players at at least 1/3 of the positions would be one way to fix the problem.
Can Jasson play the INF? Asking for a friend.
The real question is whether he can play the OF. Hopefully he proves he can this season in AAA! I’m looking forward to him in 2027 (if we get a 2027, of course)!
When you’re desperately hoping Volpe returns soon something has gone very wrong
Three hits on Wednesday by the first three batters in the first inning, two hits in the next 18 innings. If Judge isn’t going to put up MVP-like numbers, they’re done.
Fun fact. Judge turns 34 in two weeks. His prime is over. It might not be this year, but at some point soon, Judge is going to decline.
Also note, Gerrit Cole is 35 and has been an ace once (MAYBE twice) out of the last 6 seasons.
Carlos Rodon is 33 and has been good 1 of the last 3 seasons.
“His prime is over.”
Why? Barry Bonds just got way better after 34!
(Ducks and runs)
Babe Ruth led the AL in WAR in 1929, 1930, and 1931, ages 34, 35, and 36. He also led in HRs all three seasons. He had an 8.2 WAR age 37 in 1932, which didn’t lead the AL though.
In Seattle, Aaron Boone suggested Cade Winquest would have made his debut if the Yankees had led 6-0 instead of 5-0 in the 9th.
He never made his debut and is now officially DFA’d to make room for Luis Gil, who’s making his season debut tonight.
I’m not sure I wouldn’t have let the MiL staff work with Gil, maybe all this year.
Can we get the Mil hitting staff to work with the ML hitters? The three-headed hydra at the ML level isn’t doing a thing.
