I tend to think that hitters facing their former teammate have an advantage, so it’ll be interesting to see how Weathers does tonight.
The Marlins obviously have a strong rotation, but if you’re going to hit someone, it SHOULD be Meyer.
This is the Weathers experience to a tee. Dominates the first batter, gets ahead of the second guy, then loses the strike zone entirely.
Such a frustrating experience. Awful walk, bloop single, and then a two-strike triple. Ugh.
Just another fucking headcase. He gets ahead and then dicks around. Obviously, though, these are the guys that, if you ever get through to them, they become great. It sometimes takes a while. You can’t give up on stuff like this.
Also, it is fucking absurd that the Marlins are, like, “We need to look at the replay ourselves before we challenge it.” Why is that allowed?! Shouldn’t it be about calls that are CLEARLY wrong?
No challenge on that 3-0 pitch to Rice which seemed high. The same thing happened with Jazz earlier in the season. It came back to bite him with the K, I think Jazz failed to reach on his AB as well when he didn’t challenge the clearly outside 3-0 pitch
I suspect Rice might be doubting himself after challenging a strike right down the middle yesterday.
Whatever, this just seems like one of those Murphy’s Law games.
Weathers quest for a win might lead to a Winquest sighting.
Yeah, I was thinking that after he threw so many pitches in the first.
Walking the awful Slater with two outs to face Ramirez is just so embarrassing.
And it unsurprisingly came back to haunt him.
Nobody’s up?
He doesn’t look tired or like he doesn’t have it. He’s just making awful decisions.
What if the ABS was automatic whenever the pitch is like less that .1”. Otherwise it’s as is.
I’m unsure what you mean.
Before they acquired him, I thought Weathers was a dumb pitcher. Now that they’ve acquired him, I still think the same thing.
Judge hit that so hard. Grrr.
111.9 but it hung in the air too much.
Taxi references by Cone. Too odd.
Embarrassing cut there by Rice with the bases loaded and one out.
3-1 popup by Stanton with the bases loaded. Thank goodness they cooled down his hot streak by giving him two days off.
Yikes, neither McMahon nor Cabby covering third.
Yankees are bad at bunting for hits
SO fucking stupid by Jazz.
Blackburn is a fine long man, but, like, why the fuck do they have TWO long men!?
Finally got a hit with a man on!
They should just tell Rice not to challenge anymore.
He’s a legit good player, but boy will I not miss Jazz being an automatic out in clutch situations.
I know it’s a two-run game, but I think I’d still let Blackburn work through things rather than bring in Hill with one out and one on.
It’s rough that Wells has gotten to the point where he’s a guy you pinch hit for in the 6th inning.
McMahon can’t even fucking BUNT.
It’s bizarre just HOW lost McMahon looks at the plate.
Goldy scoring from second on that single was awesome.
Judge! Surprised he didn’t get to second, but still very cool!
What a great slide by Grisham for the lead!
Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep Hill in there to make sure Miami can’t go to their lefties off of the bench?
The Marlins kicked both Bednar AND Doval’s asses last season, so I’ll be very concerned about those two dudes late in this game.
That was a SICK pitch by Cruz on that last strike. WOW.
Stanton’s speed leads to a run on a steal and then scoring on a passed ball! Too, too funny.
So worried about Doval here.
What I don’t get with the other pitchers doing so well, why make Doval the automatic 8th inning guy?
Doval is just such a nutjob.
He has to pitch, but make him PROVE it before you just hand him the 8th.
I mean, whatever, I expected Doval to suck here, so it’s less painful. Still annoying.
Doval is really a guy where the three batter rule kills you, since you can tell right away if he has it or not. And when he doesn’t, he can’t recover.
McMahon is just SO lost at the plate.
So it is astonishing that they fucking WALKED him to lead off the inning.
Doval of the 10.80 era
I almost think they should bring him in always with two outs, as you’ll know right away if he has it or not.
Stanton ground ball to short? Oh wait.
Lopez didn’t get his glove down. So odd. I mean, obviously, it was hit very hard, but still.
The Marlins crushed Doval last year, but they also hit Bednar hard, so this is worrying, as well.
So of course he opens with two balls. Never can be easy.
WHAT THE FUCK, JAZZ?!!?
I’m so impressed that Rice has improved so much as a fielder.
Do not walk this guy, Bednar.
He walked the guy.
Bednar is very talented, but so fucking annoying.
And the Marlins have hit him well. So this is so frustrating.
Bednar, seriously?
It’s like, all he needs to do is throw strikes, and he just refuses to do it.
That’s why you can’t just challenge early in the game.
Bird shouldn’t be allowed to challenge period going forward.
The same two Yankees who got killed by the Marlins in that crazy game last year are, sure enough, getting killed tonight.
Bird is the third guy, and I guess we’ll see him when Bednar blows it.
Score 9 on 6 hits and you have to sweat the game.
Oh my god, just fucking throw strikes, Bednar! You have such good stuff, just fucking USE it.
He is becoming very tiresome.
SO tiresome, since when he throws strikes, he gets guys out!
Good job, Bednar, making sure the guy who homered off you last year gets to come up to the plate as the go-ahead run.
It’s been all soft contact, so I can’t kill him for the hits. The walk to Hicks, though, I can definitely kill him for.
In all seriousness, I think that that last hit was almost good for Bednar, as he obviously felt more confident against Conine.
Well, that was more interesting than it needed to be. But, yay, win.
Glad to see Judge straighten out his footwork in the box so he can stay on a pitch.
Hopefully Fried can give the bullpen a breather tomorrow. Can’t wait for Cole and Rodon to return. Would be fantastic to have a rotation of four guys who can go seven innings every time, with Warren as a passable #5 guy hopefully going six.
