    1. There were multiple Yankee news announcements in a short period of time, so I put up a post for each, and he replied to the posts with one post on each one to say “What’s up with the deluge?”

It really WAS a quick deluge of Yankee news after so much of nothing.

  1. Not sure this was worth a new thread.
Every time you change a thread, a bunch of comments get effectively orphaned.
Don’t want the threads too long, but surely we weren’t there yet?

    1. Pete this is the fast moving world the young folk live in now. I think it’s called tick tock.

  2. From 2 threads ago
    1) Red Sox taking Catcher to make it more likely Trevvy stays in and they can steal bases whenever they want
    2) if mlb moves to robot umps for balls/strikes, does that make Trevvy useless since it seems the only skill he has left is pitch framing?

    1. I think they should introduce the mulligan exception wherein a pitcher (only them) can call in a “backsies” for any particular pitch. savvy pitchers will invert wpa

    1. I believe the inclusion of the number is part of a CBA thing where Soto would otherwise be obligated to buy out all of the existing Baty merchandise with #22 on it. So I assume this is the Mets saying that THEY will pay all of those fees to get Soto the number.

    2. So it’s not indicative, you’re saying, of any passion for his number or anything, it’s also just about the money.
      Got it.

    3. Remember Judge walking past the Red Sox clubhouse in Fenway with a speaker blaring “New York, New York” in the 2018 playoffs? After the Yankees TIED the series at 1-1?!?

    4. I think someone ran his stats in the playoffs after that speaker game once and I was shocked. I’ll do it now…

      Pre-speaker: .267/.380/.683/1.064 (over only 16 games)
      Since: .181/.295/.363/.657 (over 42 games)
      Ouch.

The Dodgers foundation is auctioning the ball Aaron Judge clanked off his glove in the 5th inning of Game 5 of the World Series for charity. Auction ends in two hours. Current high bid $25,000: dodgers.auctions.mlb.com/iSynApp/auct…

    1. I thought that the Dodger players were oddly douchey following the World Series, but I’ll admit, this is funny at least. And it’s for a good cause, so I hope it raises a lot of money.

    2. How did they even get that ball? Is there some guy tagging every ball that gets thrown out of play in case it may someday have some value?

  4. It’s douchy bush league because it wasn’t that big an error. It only became big in hindsight after the next error and the not covering of 1b and the single and the double that followed. This wasn’t a bill buckner error that ended the game. Sheesh.

Years from now some ignorant fans will think judge dropped a ball with the bases loaded and two outs and let the winning run score. They had a lead an inning later for crying out loud.

    1. It’s such an absurdly bad error, though, that it just stands out. Rizzo not running to first and Cole not covering first was definitely a worse baseball play, but this was much more visceral.

Yankees Potential Free Agent Target: Alex Verdugo
Kindly not that the word “potential” on our end does not indicate any interest; just the Yankees’ unfortunate fascination.

    NOOOOOO!

    1. I don’t think the Yankees have given off any indication that they’re interested in a reunion.

You see Gleyber turned down an offer from the Angels? Allegedly he wants to stay on the East Coast.

    1. That’s a steep price for a closer. Oof.

I get that Williams has nasty stuff, but I hate giving up position players and starters for relief pitching.

  6. I like it. Williams is the strikeout guy we’ve been missing. Durbin was never more than a stopgap. I assume there’s a move for an infielder coming next.
On the downside we have less depth in the rotation to make a trade.

    1. Brian would probably look at it as Cortes and Luetge for Williams, which sounds even better.
Looking at it now. Didn’t realize just how good Williams is. Relievers worry you because they’re volatile, but he’s been incredibly consistent – and consistently incredible.
The team’s looking better and better.
And, I note, another deal no one saw coming. Cashman’s suddenly looking much better than he has in years.

  7. Headlines like “Cubs ‘believed to be favorites’ for Tucker, talking Belli trade with Yanks”
…any chance this is really an attempt to create a 3-way to bring Tucker to NYA for a different haul? The proposed Astros-Cubs deal seems so odd otherwise.

  8. The Cubs and Astros have agreed to a deal that would send outfielder Kyle Tucker to Chicago, with infielder Isaac Paredes, right-hander Hayden Wesneski and prospect Cam Smith heading to Houston. Jeff Passan of ESPN first reported that the Tucker deal was done. Chandler Rome of The Athletic noted the full package was done, pending medicals.

  9. Curry As expected, Tucker is traded. The Yankees had discussions with the Astros. But they weren’t going to include the dynamic Luis Gil, who won the ROY and can’t be a free agent until 2029, in any deal.

Elsewhere I think they said Cash would include Gil.

  10. Heyman Yankees did not want to part with both Luis Gil and George Lombard Jr. in package for Tucker. They view Gil as a potential No. 1. Never got especially close.
