From Bryan Hoch:
Aaron Boone will return for an eighth season as the Yankees manager, as the club announced on Friday that they’ve exercised the skipper’s 2025 option.
Boone, 51, is coming off a season in which he guided the Bombers to an American League-best 94 victories and the organization’s 41st World Series appearance.
Them “only” picking up the option is really the best realistic scenario for us. It sounds like they knew they couldn’t fire the guy after making it to the World Series, but they know that they might have to improve on him if they don’t win the Series this year. That’s the best we could realistically hope for.
This was never in doubt.
Agreed, but ONLY picking up the option is still significant.
Cashman has a year more to go on his deal than Boone has on his, so who knows what machinations may be going on behind the scenes.
Will Cashman stick around through 2026, and will he be the guy to hire a new manager, and get his own extension?
Yes.
But it’s still sad.

No way he doesn’t go to LA, right?
praying Yankees get him
If all the Japanese players go to the West Coast, that’s a major market-deforming factor.
Yeah, I 100% do not mind if the Dodgers get every major Japanese star when they’re posted as regular free agents. It’s not like they’re getting them at discounts, ya know? But when they’re also getting the CHEAP ones, then yeah, that’s fucked up, and we really appear headed that direction, with Jeff Passan giving the weakest, “Well, maybe it won’t happen!” I’ve ever seen.
And it didn’t used to be that they all went to the Dodgers.
Or the West Coast at all.
Why is that the case now, when it WASN’T the case BEFORE? What’s changed?
Maybe a combo of Matsui and Tanaka can convince Sasaki that the Bronx is the place to pitch.
