  1. I thought Dominguez had way more MLB abs, but he’s only accrued 35, so he will actually play in September. With Chisholm coming back, that’s a bunch of ABs not going to Verdugo and DJLM. Huge improvement.

Gil may have some concentration/focus issues, but I think he’s just tired. He’s pitched way more than he ever had before and missed most of the last 2 years to TJ. Even if his velo isn’t down, his mechanics are likely slipping, a possible cause of his back tightness. The Yankees should milk this injury for a full IL stint to give Gil a breather. Bring him back at the same time as Schmidt. Warren hasn’t been great, but having Gil for the playoffs seems way more important.

    Fire Boone.

  2. Insanity is repeating the same thing again and again and expecting different results. With regard to DJLM and Verdugo it’s obvious that Boone is insane.

  3. Martian is starting to get hits. If he starts to hit for power they should bring him up like tomorrow. Just DFA Vertigo if things don’t change by the weekend.. By September 1 we could be 4 or 5 out. Waldo can play first. Why haven’t they done that? It’s hard to believe Rizzo will be anything but less terrible than DJ or Rice.

  4. Martian yesterday line drive single, sharp line drive single, , lines out to LF, sharp line drive single, pop up single to pitcher. No strikeouts.

  5. For how great Soto and Judge have been (and Wells since June 1 for that matter), it’s amazing at how shit the rest of the team has been offensively. Verdugo is 33rd (-12.2) out of 36 LFers in Offensive RAA with more than 300 PAs. Gleyber is 43rd out of 48 (along with former Cashman players Thairo Estrada and Brandon Drury). Rizzo (38/42) and DJLM (41/42) at first base and at least Waldo is a respectable 24th out of 42 at 3B. Volpe I don’t even mind because he’s young, plays a great SS, and provides baserunning. But 1B? LF? These should be fairly easy positions to fill with someone league average or slightly better with the Yankees payroll.

    I don’t even know what they’re doing.

    1. Gleyber’s also been the worst defensive 2B.

He’s having an incredibly terrible walk year.

RAA for Rizzo is a bit unfair since it’s a counting stat, and he’s missed a lot of time. But, it’s not like he was very good before getting injured.

    2. Gleyber and Vertigo having career worst years and Volpe showing no signs of improving has to make you wonder about Yankee coaching. Gleyber is 27 and Vertigo is 28, neither should be having career worst seasons.

    3. Bop, from the previous thread:

You might have expected Verdugo not to be a great pick-up. But there’s no way anyone could have expected anything even faintly like this.
      _
The big question is – either some of the crazy-anomalous bad years are just bad luck, something out of their control, in which case you can’t blame the team… or it’s NOT bad luck, and there’s something in how they’re coaching/conditioning/??? hitters, and Judge and Soto are just so good that they hit in spite of that. If it’s the latter, then they ARE to blame, and something has to be done.
      _
Is there a good argument that it’s the latter?

    4. Judge has his own hitting coach and I think Soto is his own coach. NEW YORK – In praising Aaron Judge’s production on social media, the Yankees captain’s personal hitting coach took a swing at the Yankees’ developmental system.

“They’ve lost 13 out of 18 while he’s hitting like an MVP,’’ Richard Schenck posted to his Twitter account Thursday. “The Yankees offensive player development is terrible.’’

    1. Think about it – if Judge homered every time up, would they win more games? They would. How much clearer could it be?

  6. No DJ, Vertigo drop to 7

    G Torres (R) 2B
    J Soto (L) RF
    A Judge (R) CF
    G Stanton (R) DH
    A Wells (L) C
    A Volpe (R) SS
    A Verdugo (L) LF
    O Peraza (R) 3B
    B Rice (L) 1B

  7. Infield of Rice, Torres, Volpe and Peraza. And next year – no Torres. Imagine if Waldo were playing LF.
I mean, it’s almost like they think they can develop players to give the team some kind of future. They DON’T think that, but it almost looks that way.

    1. Jazz should be playing 2B or 3b next season. Waldo or Peraza at the other position. I still think Rice can be an average-ish 1B. Martian over Verdugo represents some hope.

But yeah, at some point they need to develop some guys who aren’t league bottom starters.

    2. Not saying you’re wrong, but it’s way too early to give up on Rice like that. It’s way to early to come to ANY conclusion on Rice. But yeah, that all sounds about right.

    1. Unless they truly believe that Wells can’t hit lefties, I don’t understand this. With Gil’s inconsistent 2nd half and now injury, Wells has a great chance to win RoY, limiting his playing time and creating a “weakness” in his game is a great way to hand the award to Cowser.

    2. Wellls should be playing somewhere every day. He is far and away the Yankees 3rd best hitter. Maybe he should DH when Trevi catches. Maybe he should play 1B. Or maybe he could play the outfield. Yogi played 260 games in the outfield, Elston Howard played 265 games in the outfield. That worked out pretty, pretty good. Wells has decent speed and it seems to me it’s easier to learn the outfield than 1B.

He must not sit 1/3 of the time. Mike Piazza from age 27-33 caught between 133 and 152 games every year.

One more thought, maybe Trevi can play 1B, he’s a better hitter than DJ, Vertigo or Rice and he played 30 games in the infield in the minors.

      .

    3. It’s truly stunning to see them try to take their third best hitter and turn him into a platoon bat, when he was playing GREAT as an everyday player. Just absolute madness.

And I get it, Trevy is too good to sit that much, as well, but then you fucking find a spot for Wells to play! “Oh no, we can’t sit Trevino this much, but where to play Wells? There’s no room, we can’t play him out of position, like we’re already doing with our washed up third baseman!”

    4. What Clay said.
      And it’s really frustrating.
Watching what the people who run the the team do sometimes makes it a lot harder to root for the team, I have to say.

  8. To be fair to Boone (and he doesn’t deserve it, as he is awful), he DID throw in, “It COULD work out this way,” qualifying himself when Wells keeps hitting and he looks like a complete idiot for not playing him more.

    1. If Wells doesn’t get to hit against lefties, he probably won’t hit lefties. Can he hit worse than DJ Or Vertigo.

  9. Cantillo, SSS (52 total AB’s), is better against RH batters, LH batters are hitting 500, OPSing 1.563. So that explains Wells and Rice both starting.

  10. We talk about how much the Yankee reporters suck, and boy, why doesn’t it even COME UP, “Is there any way you’d play Austin at first base?” Isn’t that such a simple question?

Also, Brandon Belt is still a free agent, right?
