    1. yea, i think he’s fucked up now… Barring the instance that he turns extremely early I just don’t see how he can make quality contact on those pitches while keeping them fair

  1. i’m trying to temper my excitement, but Effross appears to be pitching well. (I have no idea how his stuff looks or if he’s pumpkined into a AAAA player)

    1. The Yankees have a nice stash of arms in AAA who have spent some time on the MLB roster this year and could really help down the stretch (and the postseason).

      Also Schmidt.

    1. The bidding is going to be crazy. Ohtani made it pretty clear that he had strong preferences in his teams (and had/s some non-minor injury concerns). Soto hasn’t limited his options and is so young.

    2. We’re not going to win a pure bidding WAR. Only Yankee history and the thought of playing with Judge can keep him here.

  2. Damn this team has trouble scoring. Two on no out, just like yesterday, no runs. Big difference Will Warren and his 8.62 era, 6.11 in the minors, is pitching. This is our best AAA pitcher?

  3. Once in a while phenom looks like a major league hitter. Generally not.
Not sure if the walks indicate Verdugo is seeing the ball batter or doesn’t want to swing.

  4. I mean how many chances does Warren get? He effing SUCKED in the minors. SUCKED! Three runs was already insurmountable against the 96 Braves staff.
I guess Cash and Boone don’t think a first round bye is important, they keep starting Warren and his 9.68 era. They’re going to need serious innings from the pen anyway. Brooks Kriske here he comes. They keep starting Verdugo while The Martian is raking.

  5. Re: Soto. It will have to be done with some crazy trickery like Ohtani’s deal. But how much more do the Yankees want to pay Soto above what they are paying Judge?

    1. If they want to do it, they’ll figure something out.
If they don’t, it doesn’t matter.
Honestly, the idea that Hal’s stinginess pushes us to invest ourselves in his finances is kind of awful. The numbers aren’t my worry. I’m going to feel good if they sign him and bad if they don’t.

    1. Boone has zero “win today” in him. He’s all about “what can I possible sacrifice today to lose this game that might speculatively help in the long term.”

    1. Waiter! I’m sending back this Rice. It is offensively uninspiring, plain and simple. Needs seasoning.

  6. Meredith yesterday: Aaron what was Freeland and his 7 era doing to hold you hold the offense in check?
Today: What did the Rockies pitchers do today?

  7. How many bad pitchers dominate this lineup? A couple of days ago Paul was remarking how some Detroit pitcher was pitching better than his era.

  8. It takes a special kind of team to lose 12-2 to the White Socks and 9-2 to the Rockies in the course of a few weeks.
It takes a special kind of team to be held to 5 runs in 2 games by the worst pitching staff in baseball.
    They’re special.
    So special.

  9. Boone on Warren we see all the flashes; he gets ahead and then lets him back in the count; he’ll get better (he can’t get worse). Will certainly a candidate to get he next start.

Blalock mixed pretty well. We had chances.

On Verdugo he’s been a little unlucky, gotta keep plugging away. A lot of good at bats.

    1. Not a serious operation in the Bronx. Meanwhile, today’s Scrooge McDuck, aka Hal Steinbrenner, is counting his loot again.

  10. Katie Sharp Yankees to allow 20+ Runs in their First 4 Career MLB Games:

    Will Warren (2024)
    Joe Lake (1908)
    Walter Clarkson (1904)

106 years congratulations to Will Warren and Brian Cashman who thought you were ready and Arron Boone who gave you the late August start in the midst of a close AL East race.

  11. The great Austin Gomber a left handed pitcher with a league average era+ of 98 going tomorrow in an effort to totally humiliate The Yankees. A league average lefty against the Yankees is a problem.

  12. I blame RLYW for Judge not hitting a homer – we kept this provocative thread and didn’t have a game thread.
    _
Here’s hoping he makes us pay for that today!

    1. Waiting their turn in Scranton yesterday;
      Ron Marinaccio 1 IP, 0 R, 2 K (hold)
      Scott Effross 1 IP, 1 R, 2 H (blown save)
      Nick Burdi 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 K (win)
and Ian Hamilton 9 up 9 down at Somerset

  13. LeMahieu in for defense, so good that you tolerate his absent offense.
Two plays in a row he didn’t make. The first one was hard… for Chisholm.
