I love these games that don’t matter for either team. Joe Torre used to let a player manage the final game of the season when it didn’t matter who won. That was fun.
After Luis Gil sucked, though, and Carlos Rodon was mediocre, there is a chance for Clarke Schmidt to move up in the postseason rotation with a good game today, so I guess there are SOME stakes.
I think I’d be fine with the suggestion of a judge-Trent-Soto OF.
Boy, the Yankee rotation sure doesn’t want to keep us happy heading into the playoffs.
Gleyber having himself a September. I’m gonna miss him when next year’s 2b is hitting 210/575. I guess I’m the only one who’ll miss him.
Would you risk a QO for Gleyber? I think I would.
Damn. Was hoping for a better outing from Schmidt.
It’s very annoying.
I guess Rodon HAS to be the Game 2 starter now. I suppose Schmidt has probably still leapfrogged Gil, though, as Schmidt’s problems seem more fixable than Gil’s at the moment.
Leiter is so annoying, and then he strikes out the side, showing that he clearly has the talent to be a good reliever, but he’s just too damn inconsistent. Blake better spend the whole offseason working on that dude.
Bailey Falter is a good comedy name
So, groundout or popup for Verdugo?
I am absolutely flabbergasted that they are going to have Holmes attempt to close out this game.
High-LARIOUS.
This would have seemed like an okay (not fantastic) number of wins when the season began.
After the first half, it’s pretty shocking.
What does it mean, though, that it leads the AL? Are the efforts at (ugh) parity working?
I certainly hope not.
Anyway, congrats to all of us on winning the AL!
53-28 first half 41-40 second half.
First time in 10 years no team wins 100 games. Dodgers due to injuries; Yankees due to Boone and Holmes. (And LF and 1b.)
It’s got to be Verdugo in left. They wanted The Martian to win the job, he didn’t. At first Waldo looks like the least bad offensive option. They handled Rice today like he just doesn’t belong and he was pretty bad before he went down. It’s hard to imagine Rizzo being able to drive the ball with two fractured fingers.
Highest WRC+ by a right handed hitter ever.

Aaron Boone said he doesn’t expect Anthony Rizzo to play in the ALDS. It’s a long shot right now, but they haven’t ruled him out officially.
go yankees
I would let Dominguez play full time at this point. Soto – Jasson – Judge. I think Brian had mentioned the level of pitching Jasson has faced this year has been quite unbalanced, so I don’t think his EOY numbers reflect his true talent level. Plus, I just want to see what he can do a bit longer. Also, I don’t ever want to see Verdugo again.
Agree with every word.
Give him the experience. He has the ability – and it’s hardly like your foregoing a genuinely good alternative.
Any chance of creating a poll:

4) WS win
