  1. Kirschner A day later, Aaron Boone said he felt going to Nestor Cortes was the right call. He did wrestle with leaving Luke Weaver in. He also said Gerrit Cole was done when he pulled him. Wouldn’t say why he was done but he’s healthy.
    Never considered Hill .

  2. Sometimes sabbath observant really is awesome. I didn’t have to watch that debacle of a game that would have kept me up all night. Boone is an idiot – I think that’s the 100th time I’ve posted that this season. He Makes it impossible to
Win unless you dominate (or the other manager is a bigger idiot).

    1. 100% agreed. A basehit to the outfield of ANY kind wins that game, so it being a grand slam was pretty much meaningless. The Gibson homer mattered because the ONLY way they win there was with a home run.

  3. “So much history between these two teams” and then they show four pictures of players from 77. 78 and 81.

    Imagine, history starting before 1968.

    1. Advertisers don’t like black and white. I read a book The Era about NY Baseball 40s and 50s.

  4. He’s got away to go, Cano set a postseason record with 29 straight hitless at-bats on his way to a 3-for-40 (.075) showing in the Yankees’ nine postseason games in 2012.

  5. Shouldn’t Boone be telling the black holes at the bottom of this lineup to get up there and take like motherfuckers just to get the pitch count up? No swings til 2 strikes. This doesn’t seem complicated.

  6. I’m certainly not saying that Edman wouldn’t have hit that same home run if it was a 0-2 count, but boy, it sure would have been nicer had Rodon not thrown such stupid pitches for the first two pitches of that at-bat.

  7. Rodon is doing that Gil thing where they nibble way out of the zone. He then came back to get Muncy, but after completely WASTING two pitches. You don’t get paid extra for extra pitches, Rodon! Throw pitches where they might actually swing at them!

  8. Dodgers Edman 294/101, Muncy 232/141, Smith 241/116, Rojas 283/113, Yankees only Jazz and Wells over 100 OPS+ and Wells is in a coma. Cashman’s depth.

  9. They keep playing Eminence Front as bumper music. I feel like that should summon Paul O’Neill into the dugout. Maybe smash a cooler or two to keep these clowns honest.

  10. Dodgers have a lot of good players. The Yankees a few. They are a clearly better team. The only advantage the Yankees have had is Cole and the D plus Boone plus Nestor blew that edge. Yesterday was must win.

  11. Ah, meltdown Rodon. Game done. Series not returning to LA. This Yankees team have that awe of the Dodgers, so there’s that.

Did any 1950’s Dodgers player leading into a WS tell the media that Mickey Mantle was the best player in the game? Unheard of, unhinged crap from a Captain.

  12. This ain’t 96. The 96 Yanks were tons better than the 2024 Yanks. This ain’t 2009 where CC lost game 1, the 2009 Yanks were tons better than the 2024 Yanks and the 2024 Dodgers are better than the 2009 Phils. I’m surprised the betting line was so close.

    1. They had actual leaders in the clubhouse on those teams, like the 1976-1978 teams also had. This team has no such types. See the dumb remark by Rizzo after the first game, and that was what they were talking about in the clubhouse post game?

  13. The Dodgers are dangerous throughout the lineup. After Stanton the Yankees are AL Central level. Donaldson, DJ and Verdugo were all wasted opportunities. How could the Dodgers get players like Teoscar and Erdmanwhile also paying Ohtani, Betts and Freeman?

  14. Ah, start off with a 3-pich out. Get the loss over quickly. Then Jazz does the same. Then Rizzo takes it to 4-pitches for the out. Get the plane ready.

  15. I don’t think what Rizzo or Judge said means shit. Past the first four hitters the Yankees are AL Central. Jazz an OK 7/8 hitter. Rizzo cooked. phenom overrated. Verdugo sucks. Judge I just don’t understand why he’s been so bad.
We could easily have lost to KC or Cleveland. At no time did the Yankees look like a clearly superior team to either KC or Cleveland.

    1. They’re just not good, and we both know that. As the quote goes this team is a mile wide and an inch deep.

    1. I thiiiiiiiiiiink that Boone believes the game is still winnable, while Stroman would be the white flag.

He’s wrong, and Stroman should have started next inning if not this one.

  16. Volpe in September 177/432. Since a really good start to the season phenom has perhaps been the biggest failure/ disappointment I can remember. Sure Bird, but he was hurt. Spencer and Maas one good month each. phenom is a defense first SS which would be OK if we had a 1B and a LF or a 3B who could hit.

    1. He’s here until his FA year or the super unlikely possibility that the Yankees develop someone..

  17. A day late indeed. Did Cash or Hal watch. A 1.59 era postseason. When the Fox broadcasters and the Yankee postgame crew all criticize Boone, you know it was bad blunder.

  18. In 2000 Yankees only won 87 games. Their lineup in game 1 had Knoblauch, Jeter, Judge, Bernie,Tino, Jorge and Paulie. The relievers were Nelson, Mo and Stanton. Sure they had Sojo. This team has 5 Sojos.

    1. Man, this just gave me flashbacks to Kay self-satisfyingly invoking “QuanGorMo” every fucking chance he got.

Jesus wept announcers are terrible at their jobs.

    1. I sort of get it. So long as it’s only a three run game, they’re still THEORETICALLY in it, so he wants to keep it at four runs, which Stroman wouldn’t do. Once one of the relievers gives up a run, though, he’ll give up and use Stroman.

  19. I think there’s actually a better than even chance that they bring Rizzo back at this point on a very reduced salary. They owe him a $6 million buyout, so throw $4 million on top of that and he’d take home $10 million next year. I think he’d take that, and it would give them time to develop a first baseman other than Ben Rice.

  20. Yankees are playing without Judge, Dodgers should play without Ohtani. I hope he’s OK but if he had hurt himself because of a pothole at Yankee stadium that would’ve been Karma.

    1. Is he the one who realized there’s no special moments unless you win? That was pretty impressive for a tv voice.

    1. They don’t like him, that is obvious. I’m serious. Because who would PH Trevino unless there was no one else.

    1. What did Judge’s hitting coach say? He was correct. And I’d rather have Wells hit than the joke of PH Trevino.

    1. Trevi at least made contact, Judge and phenom looked totally overmatched. That Trevi got that AB is totally on boy genius Cashman. That Nestor came in yesterday is totally on our dumb as rocks manager.

  21. Ohtani suffered a shoulder subluxation, a partial dislocation of the shoulder, not nearly as serious as a full dislocation. I believe his post season is done.

    1. I wouldn’t have minded him stepping in a drainage ditch at Yankee Stadium to compensate for Judge last year. Hammurabi’s code addressed this situation.

  22. RAB “ The good news is the sooner this series ends, the sooner we no longer have to watch Alex Verdugo play baseball. What an awful player.”

Cashman sure can pickem. Gallo, Donaldson and Vertigo.

  23. Today’s Boone fail: using the backup catcher to pinch hit when your CF of the future is on the bench. Saying he can’t hit right-handed is ridiculous given the small sample size in MLB and MIL so far.

I was listening to the ESPN radio call and even earlier in the game they were talking about the possibility of hitting Dominguez for Wells against a lefty. I chuckled to myself, knowing Boone would never obviously upgrade when pinch-hitting. And then in the 9th they were discussing Dominguez as likely getting a shot and then sounded genuinely surprised when Trevino came up. I was not. Boone is literally the worst tactical manager ever.

We’ll never know if the more optimal moves would have worked out, but it’s so easy to first-guess objectively terrible moves as they happen.
