I think people are overstating things when they note that the Yankees kickstarted the Red Sox by getting swept in Fenway, or kickstarted Dylan Cease winning the Cy Young by Cam Schlittler deciding to suck for a while, and, similarly, kickstarting the Blue Jays if they get swept today (which they likely will).
However much of an overstatement, it still fucking sucks when it can even APPEAR to be the case, ya know?
This offense is just filled with a bunch of fucking losers.
Hopefully Cease doesn’t have a 21-strikeout Perfect Game, at least. A sweep is inevitable, let’s hope that a Perfect Game isn’t.
Happy birthday to Ugly Johnny Dickshot! Sorry you have to celebrate with a Yankee loss!
@pinstripealley.bsky.social
it is with a heavy heart that I just inform you the New York Yankees are playing baseball today
AWESOME
Sharp challenge on the 0-0 pitch Trent. And he was wrong by a lot.
Boone got thrown out the other day while arguing a strike call that Garcia DIDN’T challenge, and Boone correctly noted that there are times when it doesn’t make sense to challenge, and that the umpire still has to make correct calls.
That Grisham pitch was a perfect example of when NOT to challenge.
Are you suggesting that… Boone… got it right?
“After his injury Kirk was struggling with a 202 batting average,” Wells would kill to hit 202..
When it is that clear, you still have to challenge it, so good for Lombard.
Kay on Cease, “He never misses a start. EVER.”
What the fuck does that mean for a guy who was on the IL THIS season? Does it mean he…what…doesn’t say, “Nah, I don’t feel like pitching today.”?
I thought he’s been on the IL a bunch of times over his career.
McMahon and Wells had two of the more pathetic strikeouts that you’ll see.
Every flyball like that one from Okamoto makes me think, “Would that have been a home run if they didn’t fuck with the ball?”
The new BS cliche all these close games will help the Yankees in the playoffs.
Man, Boone is getting heeeeeeated at these balls being called strikes.
Wow, a RUN off of Cease! What a terrible throw by Cameron.
In 2024 Rice first half 809, second half 401. In August he was 057/171/057. But last year he was fine in the second half.
Weathers at 33 pitches through three. What team does this guy think he’s on?!
Grisham works the count to 3-2 nicely, but then strikes out on a pitch in the dirt. Very annoying.
Cody Bellinger starting his rehab assignment this week is very good news.
Cease is starting pretty much every batter with a strike, and they’re all just taking it. Annoying.
Another 2-1 loss? Odds we score again unless the game turns into a blowout 17%.
That high?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, do I hate when they are hurt by soft contact.
See, that’s the sort of soft contact I like better.
R.I.P. Tommy John.
I’m a big Hall guy, so I think John should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame. As should Dr. Frank Jobe.
Reality strikes
I can’t even get too mad at Weathers. This is still all on the offense.
I don’t like how rattled Weathers looks here, though.
Yankee-esque baserunning there from Cameron. What a MORONIC play! Who runs to third AFTER getting checked back to second!?!?
Just an amazing offensive showing in these three games. Plus the Thursday game, and I can count all the runs in four games on one hand.
I was going to say that the hope isn’t that he doesn’t have a 21-strikeout perfect came, but that he doesn’t have a 63-pitch, 21-strikeout perfect game.
So this is already a major win!
I’m predicting Cruz for the loss
I’m looking at the box score to keep up, and I saw that Cease WALKED RAMOS!
LOL he sucks!
I can’t even knock Grisham for that pitch. That was a PERFECT pitch by Cease.
I CAN knock Weathers for walking fucking STRAW, though. But what a play by McMahon to get the lead runner there!
God, what TERRIBLE luck on that hit and that play at third. They suck AND they’re cursed. Argh.
That, I think, is a completely fair and highly incisive assessment.
Should the FO have a really powerful medicine man on the payroll for just this sort of eventuality?
Not a bad idea!
Why in the WORLD would he challenge the 2-0 pitch but not the 3-0 pitch?!? Thanks, Kirk!
It’s good to get his pitch count up, but these constant 3-2 strikeouts are SO painful.
103 pitches and still going. So they’re really planning on not having a post-season, I imagine.
You all KNOW what I’m thinking about that flyball.
No win for Cease is good, at least.
That’s the whole bench in two batters.
Rosario hit that good.
How did that hang in the air so fucking long!? This team is fucking cursed!
Wow that was some sloppy execution by the Jays
They still got him, I think.
I think it was more idiotic baserunning by Cabby. Why are they always SO bad on the basepaths? Rice wouldn’t have gotten a hit, but give him a fucking CHANCE.
Totally idiotic.
Would Cabby have been called out for going out of the basepaths with the rolling on the ground?
Also why did Cabby need to try for second? Lombard was scoring period. Better first and third up 2-1 then this.
It was TERRIBLE baserunning.
That said, as idiotic as his baserunning was, I still liked that he got a rare clutch hit for a Yankee.
Sure but one has nothing to do with the other.
Well, I mean, it means that there was at least something for us to be happy about, right?
TJPSOB strikes again.
I was out for a few innings and Suzie was crushing hard on Lombard.
She fucking loooooooooooooves Lombard.
Aside from my belief that the Yankee clubhouse has some diseased air or water, is it also possible that MLB tinkering with the balls affects some players more than others? And for some reason the ones most negatively affected play in the Yankees?
It’s truly not that crazy of a concept, honestly. It is possible that the changed ball affects their launch angles specifically (and we all know the Yankees teach specific launch angles).
Now four(!) runs in the last four games.
Weathers with a very much un-Yankee-like dominant seventh after he was given a lead.
At this point, he HAS to pitch the 8th, right? And I guess Bednar comes in at either the first sign of trouble, or maybe with two outs either way?
I only saw the video on gameday, but how on earth could Caballero have been called out?
Did other views show him being tagged? Did they say he “fell out of the baseline?”
One of the replays showed him definitively tagged.
Thanks.
His wrist band moved. If he wasn’t wearing a wrist band he would’ve been safe..
It’d be very interesting to see what the call would have been on whether you’re allowed to, like, roll out of the way or not.
Rice continues his decline. This does not include today’s 0-4.
It’s so depressingly bleak.
Incredibly depressing.
The offensive development out of the minors suddenly looked different – with Judge AND Rice.
But no, still just Judge.
A Ramos HR would be nice.
EDIT: Well, he did hit it in the air.
You’ll take a popup and like it.
Seriously, dude right off the waiver wire, and he makes Ramos look like a joke.
Ramos AND Grisham. Man, this offense is so fucking pathetic.
Judge is the only genuinely good hitter they’ve developed in over twenty years, is that a fair statement?
Seward 6+ era recently DFAed shuts down the Yankees in the 8th.
And now Weathers 3-0 to the leadoff hitter. Come on, dude.
How did Jones not catch that?!?! There is a reason why that dude isn’t playing center field. He’s a bad defender, as well.
Okay, so Bednar for the 8th and 9th where he gives up one run, then Cruz for the loss in the 10th. Sound about right?
If that gets past Jones it’s three bases with one out, it might even be four bases. Am I the only one who thought he needed to keep that in front of him at all costs?
There’s no reason it should have gotten past him, though.
The Yankees were just saved by the weird field dimensions of this stadium, as that should have been an RBI double. Instead it was a foul ball.
Never heard anyone say Spencer was a bad fielder. Quite the opposite.
Don’t recall anyone saying that here, either, since he’s come up.
Realy, could that not be just one play, and not the sky falling?
I HAVE heard, however, that he strikes out a lot.
He has bad defensive numbers. Basically the same negative defensive counting stats as Grisham, but in much less opportunities.
They hit better against Cease.
Jones looked so bad on that AB.
He didn’t look like he had a chance. Annoying against a DFAed pitcher.
He knew something was happening, but he didn’t know what it was.
I can’t knock Jazz for not busting it around third on that Cabby play.
I can’t look.
That’s really what kills me about all of these losses. They don’t just lose, they lose after I was forced to pay attention the whole game, thus wasting my afternoon.
Even a second division team should be doing damage to Sewald. The Yankees have seen a few bad pitchers yesterday and today who handled them easily,
This fucking team. And why, exactly, was Rice playing first base instead of Garcia today? They were lucky that Smith didn’t go to second. He probably would have made it.
And now Bednar walks Kirk. Fucking awful. Fuck this team.
It’s all right, now he IS on second.
Big out, but it just brings up Clement, who KILLS the Yankees.
Smith should steal third. Sanchez would throw the ball into the outfield.
Can they PLEASE get Sanchez off of this team?!
No need now.
And there’s the ballgame.
Like I said, one run for Bednar, then Cruz loses it in the 10th.
It’s all Weather’s fault.
I could have stopped following this misery hours ago.
Maybe Bednar will mercifully lose it here.
No such luck.
In all seriousness, why the fuck was Rice playing first base instead of Garcia Jr. today?
Now we just need the Red Sox to come back on the Pirates for this shit sandwich of a day to be perfect.
Really?
Why the fuck are you bunting to lead off the inning?!!?
Okay, the home run was nice, at least.
Rice! He’s alive.
With the off day tomorrow, can they just leave Bednar in to pitch the 10th?
I hope so.
How many pitches is Bednar at?
28 pitches for Bednar.
Ugh. That’s a lot of pitches. I think I’d still do it, but that’s tough.
Ramos restores order.
Ramos has fit in so well.
That was such an awful GIDP. I seriously don’t mind Ramos on the team, but why in the fuck is he cemented as a #3-5 hitter?!
Tim Hill?!?
Better than Cruz, but yeah, I hate it.
Bunting for a base hit here seems dumb.
F
U
C
K
spells fuuuuuck.
This team.
Man, do I hate when soft contact kills the team.
I get why Boone is doing it, but Hill is so bad.
Hill last 14 days 7.5 era, 6ip 6h 1bb
Good throw from Ramos would have gotten him at first.
If the best you’ve got is Tim Hill, well, good luck.
What a fucking win. WOW.
Gotta give Boone some credit for not being dumb enough to go to Cruz in the 10th. Very low bar, but he cleared it.
PORK IN THE TREETOPS!!!!
That was a miserable game, but a miraculous win.
They survived Tim Hill.
Six runs in the last 4 games, and they held on to win one of them.
This pitching staff is INSANELY good.
How many extra inning wins would they have if they didn’t use Cruz in any of them? I assume they’d be 9-3 now.
“Good throw from Ramos would have gotten him at first.”
Line of the day. I keep reading the “good throw from Ramos” part. Satanically funny!
Is Ramos not good at throwing? I thought he was just a bad defender in general. Is his arm also bad?
Okay, apparently his arm is just slightly above average.
Yeah, I was thinking of his fielding in general.
Interesting that Toronto didn’t use either their closer OR their main setup guy in the 10th.
Why would that have been?
Varland pitched the last two games. Did Rogers, as well?
I feel like everybody missed all my best lines today.
But will I give that for miraculously not getting swept via winning the game they were totally never going to win?
Willingly.
Your miserable game line WAS good!
🙂
Although I was thinking more of this one:

Sorry to have missed that astounding Dylan reference, Pete. Bravo.
I am fully compensated now for my efforts!
But as for Jones, all the assessments of his fielding I’ve found so far are very positive, and while the stats for his SSS major league time have him just a hair below average (which is in no way terrible to begin with), his minor league fielding stats were apparently excellent.
If anyone has other information, I’d be interested in hearing!
Here’s the tricky thing. Belli will likely be back in time for the Red Sox series (which I didn’t know was a fucking FOUR-GAME series. Ugh). Well, who the fuck gets removed from the roster for Belli?
I want the outfield to be Belli/Grisham/Jones when he returns, with Ramos platooning with Jones.
But if that’s the case, then they would have to DFA Rosario. Could they possibly send Cabby to the minors for a few days until the rosters expand on September 1st?
I’d go further and say that Ramos shouldn’t platoon with Jones, he should only come in as a late-inning defensive replacement for Grisham who can’t run anymore. Only way I’d have Ramos start would be if Bellinger or Grisham needs an off day.
Both the Rays and Bosox lost. The Yankees somehow managed to go from 2-runs total in their previous three games and scored 4-runs in 10 innings, and managed to hang on to win. Rolling now. 😏
From Katie S —
Ramos 3-36 as a Yankee.
One of the hotter Yankees with those numbers!
Just saw someone mention the Yanks starters have a 2.03 ERA over the last 17 games and they’re 8-9.
What to make of this?
Yankees All-Star OF Cody Bellinger is set to begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Tuesday as he works to return from a left hamstring strain.
June 6 Giancarlo Stanton takes live batting practice again with Yankees hoping for return ‘sooner rather than later’
Apparently Boone misspoke, and Bellinger won’t START his rehab games until Thursday. So we’re looking to mid-week NEXT week for him to return.
Was that really from June 6 that they said that about Stanton?! Insane.
Basically dead heat between Schlitt and Cease
