From Jon Heyman:
The Yankees and No. 1 target Cody Bellinger have exchanged multiple proposals but haven’t closed the gap quite enough to shut off other possibilities — either for Bellinger or the Yankees, who are now looking more seriously at superstar infielder Bo Bichette.
Honestly, I just want a new post up.
That Bichette’s agent ISN’T Scott Boras suggests to me that this is a legit piece on info from Heyman, and not just his typical “help Boras out” articles.
Bichette had a strong .357 OBP last season, and he’s relatively young, so Bichette ahead of Judge could be useful.
I figure you’d do:
Bichette 2B
Judge RF
Rice 1B
Stanton DH
Grisham CF
Dominguez/platoon partner they would sign (like Hays) LF
Wells C
McMahon 3B
Volpe/Cabby SS
and then things would determine on whether they then trade Jazz for someone useful.
You could also just keep Jazz for this season, and have him play a little center field when Volpe returns.
Bichette SS/2B
Judge RF
Rice 1B
Stanton DH
Grisham CF/LF
Jazz 2B/CF
Dominguez/platoon partner (like Hays) LF
Wells C
McMahon 3B
(Volpe SS when he returns)
We still have the Mexican League MVP. I think one of his middle names, among some 11 or 12 of them, is Yhoiker.
Other than 2024 bichette is really good. Not sure what happenned them, but I bet he’s going to be better than Belli over the next 5 years.
If you’re right, that would make this a pretty great move for them.
Holy shit, Brendan Kuty says that the Yankees are offering MORE than $30 million per year to Bellinger!
I imagine they must be trying a short term deal. Maybe 5 years/$170 million?
He said Bellinger wants 7, Yankees prefer 4 or 5.
5/$170 seems like a more than fair offer then, right?
It’s really baffling to me that the Yankees are apparently willing to go OVER $30 million for Bellinger, and yet won’t go for Tucker?!
I guess it’s possible Tucker is asking for, like, $40 million a year over 10 years or some shit like that.
Bob Klapisch, “I’m told Bellinger is also seeking $36-$37 million per year. The Yankees think that’s crazy, too, although there’s room for negotiation in that regard.” Oh, really? There’s room for negotiation from the figure you’re never going to get? For serious? That’s amazingly kind of you to be willing to move from a price you’ll never get!
If a 5 win player like Tucker gets anywhere near $40m for 10 years, Aaron judge becomes the most underpaid player in baseball. And cashman is a genius for signing him for such a low $ figure
That’s just how contracts typically work, no? The money tends to go up over time when some other dude gets a big deal (which is why owners try desperately to avoid setting new “precedents,” and the players union pushes players TO set new “precedents.”
I don’t think the Cole contract, for instance, made the Verlander deal look cheap in retrospect.
