If this series was a trap series overall, then today’s game, after last night’s blowout win, and tomorrow’s start of a four-game series against the Red Sox, is the ULTIMATE trap game, especially with Drew Rasmussen being such a strong pitcher. In his last five starts against the Yankees, totaling 29 1/3 innings, he has allowed a total of THREE RUNS!! And the Yankees are going without Giancarlo Stanton (and, to a MUCH lesser degree, Jose Caballero) tonight. So this could be ROUGH.
A Quick Look at Savant suggest Caballero is better than phenom. 39-91-73 vs12-78-11
Batting-running-fielding value.
Range 90-2
I definitely would have played him over Volpe at least tonight.
You’re ignoring the Cashman Ego Investment quotient.
Either Savant is wacko or Volpe may be the most overrated player in history.
Winans called up as the long man. Cruz obviously not quite ready yet. Hopefully by this next series.
I still can’t believe that they just went without a 13th pitcher last night.
They should go with the same “hit a franchise record number of home runs so you don’t need to worry about the 13th pitcher” strategy going forward.
Wow, Grisham. Maybe they will!
Thatโs #2 out of 128
Judge’s 8-pitch walk good for the old pitch count war.
Sure would be a good time for Dominguez to show some power.
If a player’s ever been due…
He should definitely first make him throw a strike. take the first pitch.
Even when he makes outs, Dominguez looks like a totally different hitter batting left. He has such a strong control of the strike zone, and yet, batting right, be looks like a total spaz.
One run sure ain’t going to be enough for Schlittler.
Martian no XBHs since 7/29, 15 games. SLG first 80 games 417, 23 games since 280. What did they do to him?
Power takes a while. Look at Roman Anthony. I like both of their plate discipline a lot (Anthony more so than Dominguez, but still).
But he had 9 home runs in his first 83 games.
Impressive first for Schlittler. Just use that as you blueprint, dude!
Be aggressive and locate your pitches!
I imagine opposing pitchers look at Volpe and Wells like that cartoon wolf, with their eyes bulging out in anticipation.
Just take three strikes, Wells! Add to his pitch count, and clear your spot in the lineup!
Sigh.
So of course he was swinging first pitch. It’s like the old saying, if it’s horribly broken, why fix it?
He does that a lot. Maybe heโs afraid to get behind because he canโt hit breaking balls.
DRS phenom and Caballero both with 2 runs but Caballero 1/4 the games.
I’d love to know what Grisham was sitting on if he took all those strikes.
Really let him off the hook that inning. Just 12 pitches!
How can this be a Yankee starting pitcher?! A six pitch inning?!
What was that Cody?
The Jorge Posada School of Baserunning claims another Yankee.
Volpe better let him steal.
I remind the court that Dominguez didn’t seem like he was going to wait for power his first time up.
Stealing a base in front of phenom especially with 2 out is risking a muscle pull for no reason, 2 out RISP 125.
This has been his pattern, yet the whiz bang Yankees development people never noticed, or if they did, they just shrugged.
Close your eyes and swing hard. Thatโs how I hit it over the roof that time in stickball.
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn.
Rasmussen might seriously pitch SEVEN at this rate.
Cam motherfucking Schlittler.
Thank goodness Bellinger was able to get that hit off of Uceta back in New York, as the rest of the team canNOT hit him.
Itโs gonna be a shame to piss away Schittlerโs performance.
Boone needs to have a quick hook, hit, or BB, or error. Pitchers tend to droop after losing a no-no or perfecto. As it is only a 2-run game. The Yankees/Boone needs to win this game first and foremost.
I think you wait for a hit. But yes, otherwise, totally agreed.
OTOH heโs at 70 pitches and you want to keep your pen rested for Boston.
Who takes the loss? Doval? Devin? Leiter? Weaver? Bednar?
Okay, well done, Schlittler, now exit on a high note!
They’re REALLY flirting with disaster here.
I’d go to Hill, try to make Josh Lowe less of an issue.
Take him out, Boone.
Now I pull him
I have NO IDEA why he’s still in the game. Boone is such a fucking moron. Before the first walk, it was defensible. Now it’s just moronic.
By the way, it also makes SCHLITTLER feel worse about himself, ya know? It doesn’t make ANY fucking sense.
Excatly.
HUGE strikeout. Now you bring in Hill for Lowe.
Lowe is SO MUCH worse against lefties. What is Boone doing?!
And Lowe has had success against Schlittler! This is just so fucking stupid.
Tampa has got to pinch hit for Feduccia, right?
So now they’re going to ask Weaver for four outs. Just shitty, shitty managing.
Boone just gets worse. It is maddening. What, he thinks they have 9-HRs today?
You should never bring a reliever in with the bases loaded unless an injury forces your hand.
Especially when they could have just used Hill against Lowe!
Is the Rays’ other catcher hurt? I can’t imagine why they would let Feduccia hit there. Weaver just ate him up and spit him out.
Great job, but shitty managing by Boone. It keeps Weaver from being available for more games against Boston.
A few more runs would be nice.
TPTG!
A single here would be huge, Belli.
Judge had a bad AB there.
Yeah, bad Judge at-bat. Belli wasn’t great, either.
One was it.
Yikes, Weaver. To a dude named BOB?!
Come on, Weaver, please don’t collapse.
Bob Seymour?
I mean, he’s not a TERRIBLE prospect, but yeah, very surprising.
Lo has a flexor sprain. That’s probably it for his Yankees career.
Hard luck for Volpe on that liner.
Come on, Bednar!
It’s never fucking easy. Can’t believe he walked Lowe ahead of Caminero.
Grrr….
This is very annoying, Bednar.
Looks like it’ll be Bednar.
He was THAT close to ending this game right there. Fucking Bednar.
No, Bednar, no! Good grief, an awful loss incoming now.
He just fucking HUNG that pitch.
I didn’t realize “Bednar” was Pittburghese for “Devin Williams”
Bednar TYM
The fuck?!
What a waste of a great pitching effort from Schlittler. Fuck this โpen.
133 hitter. This pen has so many blown saves and holds.
Wasted a great start by Schlittler, and the chance to gain on several teams because they managed 3-runs all on HR’s, and stink with RISP.
The Lowe walk was the killer to me. Just an ABSURD walk with one out in the ninth inning and a two run lead.
They do that a lot.
Yep.
Yankees, extras on the road, good luck. Can’t wait to see how they make the three quick outs in the tenth.
Extra innings on the road. What can go wrong?
Was that his second blown save in 8 outings. Not a great percent.
The first blown save was him entering a bases loaded situation with one out. And he only gave up the one run there.
THIS was a BLOWN SAVE.
I think it’s technically his THIRD blown save, but that Marlins game was kind of weird. It was the seventh inning on his first game with the team.
Okay, that’ll do, ya Big Lug.
Stanton canโt pinch hit. Why do they even go to him?
Stanton is en fuego
They better start him at least two of the games against Boston!
In a 4-game series, yes, Boone had better.
Ugh, so who the fuck closes? GULP. Williams?!
What a crazy fucking game.
He’s alive! He’s alive!! He’s alive!!!
Austin certainly hit the high holy fuck outta that one.
Closing his eyes is working. The VR helmet is working.
That truly was a meatball that Bednar gave Feduccia.
It was CRAZY how much of a meatball it was.
If they don’t walk Judge here, that says a LOT.
He keeps expanding the zone, takes a game or two off doing that, then he’s right back at it.
That was some NONSENSE with Caballero.
Judge, seriously?
They are going to RUE not getting that seventh run with Devin Williams against the Rays, who have OWNED him this season.
And a leadoff single to make it a 2-run game.
They’re (Williams is) gonna blow it, aren’t they? DFA Williams.
You didn’t HAVE to use Devin Williams, ya know?
Worst choke job in history. Had to go Leiter. Devin and Doval are useless.
Tim Hill could pitch. Mark Leiter could pitch. You don’t NEED to pitch Williams here.
He is objectively, statistically, the least valuable pitcher in the history of this franchise. No other pitcher has done more damage per inning pitched than this bum.
He’s three batters in, you could pull him before Diaz!
This guy is so fucking annoying.
You NEED to bring Hill in here now.
Boone is so fucking stupid. WHY IS HE STILL IN THE GAME?!
Who woulda thunk it?
yay win
I turned it off to watch South Park. My wife told me the Yankees won so now Iโll safely watch the 10th.
It was never in doubt. ๐
That’s 19 runs in 2-games, all on HR’s.
I still can’t believe they called Caballero out.
I can’t believe Judge’s last AB.
I can’t believe it’s not butter.
I donโt like Bednar getting the win.
Ottaviano has a future in broadcasting.
Top 10 prospects at each position. I don’t think I noticed a single Yankees prospect.
https://www.mlb.com/news/2025-in-season-prospect-position-rankings?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage
The way the minors go, everyone plays shortstop until the Majors, and then they move to second or third, so short is where all of the talent is congregated. The top six prospects on the Top 100 are all shortstops. As the listing notes, the #24 overall prospect on the list can’t even hit the Top 10. Lombard is somewhere around #30 or so.
Lombard was 45 overall on ESPN, Schlittler 69, Spencer 81. Schlittler will possibly move up at seasonโs end.
Won’t Schlittler just graduate from the list?
