The Guardians are going to drive Rodon INSANE.
By the way, “The Yankees are 6-8 against teams over .500.” That doesn’t mean anything. So, roughly .500 on a miniscule sample size? Completely meaningless. If it gets worse, then yes, it’s an issue.
Wow this ump just called a clear strike against Rice a ball.
Not a single. He’s a single, double and home run away from the cycle.
Jazz looked like Volpe last night on that AB.
https://bsky.app/profile/pinstripealley.bsky.social/post/3lngwsjqcwc2x
Let’s keep hitting Jazz and phenom 5/6 in perpetuity. And Wells I really had hopes for him. Biggest disappointment Wells, Jazz, or Cody?
Last 27 ABs phenom 10 strike outs.
Gotta be Belli. But because Belli you have to still have realistic hopes for, then definitely Wells. As we were hoping for a step FORWARD, and he’s taken a huge step BACK.
It’s just absurd that you have a nice top of the lineup followed by just absolute garbage.
Second and third and no outs, and three straight strikeouts. Beyond pathetic. You just can’t keep these dudes in the middle of the lineup.
Even if the OTHER dudes suck, you have to at least TRY Martian and Waldo in the middle, just to mix your sucking up.
Rice
Judge
Belli
Goldschmidt
Wells
Martian
Waldo
Jazz
Volpe
When Grisham is back, obviously you bat him fifth or fourth, depending on whether Belli or Martian is getting the day off.
Bad strikeouts especially Jazz and phenom.
Yankees falling apart, Cody (173/528) with a 2 base error.
This series has got to be the most frustrating piece of shit series they’ve had since, well, the World Series.
Anything that could go wrong, goes wrong.
Arias had STOPPED at third when the ball just got past Belli, so he clearly wasn’t even going to score there.
So is that an unearned run?
The scorekeeping has been atrocious for the Yankees lately. Arias had STOPPED. How is that an earned run?
I’d walk Goldy here.
They really should have.
Fuck, Belli hit that one as well as you could hit it, but just right at a dude.
Judge now a double and HR from the cycle. I can see him getting a double but a HR?
If there’s a base open why don’t they just walk Goldschmidt?
Judge hitting .424. Goldy hitting .385.
Craaaaaazy.
What an ugly 2-1 swing.
Managers are so dumb. Jazz is hitting 157, Goldy 378, 1st and 3rd, 2 out. I guess you’re not allowed to walk the RHB to,get to,the LHB whose been hopeless.
Jazz was, like, “You take the K for me, Tony.”
When a guy has been this bad, to give him that first called strike is insane.
YOU CANNOT KEEP RUNNING THIS GUY OUT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LINEUP.
Gold Glove-level defense at shortstop is fine enough to keep a guy on the team, but not batting fucking SIXTH!
phenom beyond hopeless. I couldn’t find a good antonym for phenom.
Failure, flop.
At least a bunt was INTENTIONALLY soft contact.
How did this fucking moron walk Austin fucking Hedges?!
Walking the guy with the lowest career BA in baseball.
“Hm, when I go at guys, I strike them out. Should I go after their catcher, who can’t hit for shit? Nah, best to put him on so Kwan can bat with two men on.”
Rodon is just too unbelievably stupid.
And he got away with it. But man, Rodon is just too fucking stupid.
Good wood by the Martian. He’s obviously had some bad at-bats lately, too, but I’d still bat him fifth at this point. Wells sixth, Waldo seventh, Jazz eighth, and Volpe ninth.
Walking Jose Ramirez pisses me off a lot less than walking Hedges.
He should just walk Judge.
You really can’t be bunting, Belli.
You should probably STILL walk Goldy here.
The other are wearing off on Goldy.
You probably have to greenlight Jazz 3-0.
What an embarrassing strikeout by Jazz.
Rodon when he doesn’t fuck around is pretty fucking good.
Sadly, he rarely isn’t fucking around.
It is PATHETIC that the Yankees almost let this dude get through five innings, helping out the Cleveland bullpen immensely.
Volpe struck out on this dude’s 102nd pitch!
Jazz and Volpe 6 PAs, 5Ks, 1bb. Best 5/6 hitters since Chile Davis/Tino 1998 or Posada/Matsui 2009
Beeter AA 1/3ip 3r 1h 3bb
Martian with the meaningless double since he’s batting in the middle of a wasteland of hitters. Just move the guy up in the lineup already! Even when HE struggles, it’s at least understandable since he’s just 22 years old.
That was just plain ol’ excellent defense by Cleveland. Can’t even be too upset at it. Just tip your hat.
Also, if Belli hadn’t tried to score, he would have just been stranded by Jazz anyways.
I’m not sure how I feel about the new radio guy. He’s fine. He’s better than the patchwork crew they used last year. But there’s just something about him that’s not quite engaging?
We need to get back to a booth like Sterls and Steiner where it was all stentorian-on-stentorian crime.
I liked when Kay used to needle Sterling
I think he needs some time to really get comfortable. He’s clearly a much more professional announcer than the other guys they used last year, but yes, the personality isn’t quite developed yet.
Bellinger is washed, done, over
You gotta say this is good Rodon, though, Brian
I’d send him out in the 7th for the bottom of the order
This is literally their worst reliever, so let’s see if Volpe can strike out against him, too.
From the previous thread:
Jazz Chisholm This Season
1st series vs MIL (3 games):
.417/.500/1.167 in 14 PA
Since then
,118/..227/.303 in 88 PA
Add in today’s 0-2. It can’t get any worse, and he does have 2 BB today as well. Maybe steal a base?
Okay, to be fair to Volpe, he got FUCKED hard by the umpire on that strikeout. The third strike was waaaay outside.
Yeah, awful punch out. But the umps start looking at the guy and say, he’s gonna K anyway.
It’s like Happy Gilmore. “Go to your home.” Striking out is Volpe’s home now.
Volpe with the golden sombrero.
Boy Volpe might be playing himself out of baseball at this rate
Wells comes through, been a while, son, been a while.
Good to see SOMEthing from Wells. The Guardians are throwing up the white flag here using Kent, so the Yankee hitters have to capitalize.
phenom’s bad enough without getting fucked by the ump
Right?! Like, dude, he’d have found a way to strike out on his own, you don’t need to help it along!
Volpe will come up at least one more time! Can he make it 5? I believe in him!
Hopefully they let Kent stay in to face Judge if Rice doesn’t GIDP.
Suddenly against Judge, Kent looks like a stud. Weird.
Damn, that was an impressive job Kent did against Judge.
He lulled Judge into that.
Well, they managed the least out of that. 😕
We might get the 2025 debut of Tyler Matzek in the 8th.
They better not use Williams with a four-run lead in the ninth.
Never use a closer with more than a 3-run lead. Boone, say wut?
Say to Rodon, great game, and send someone else out for the 8th?
I guess you let Rodon start the 8th, and then bring in Matzek. Hopefully Matzek would just pitch the ninth.
Cleveland likes Kent a lot, and now that he’s settled down, you can see why.
The “Anthony Volpe try to do anything but strike out” challenge.
A groundout! He did it, everybody, he DID IT!
Boo, groundout
Volpe avoids the platinum sombrero, and hits a ground out instead.
Does that constitute a victory?
Do NOT like Cruz against the top of the lineup. This could get ugly fast.
Fast but not ugly
I knew he could do it all along!
Cruz told me to shut the fuck up. Wow, that was a DOMINANT inning. Kwan does NOT strike out very often, and Cruz struck him out EASILY.
You KNOW you have a good pitch when you have Kwan swinging over the top of it.
Wow, Boone not fucking around, huh?
The way that this series has been going, I’m going to assume a Weaver meltdown out of nowhere.
Yay, win. Yay, Rodon Day.
I’m actually feeling pretty good about the team at the moment. Those first two losses had a LOT of bad luck baked into them. Warren and Rodon pitched great, and I don’t think Schmidt was as bad as his line was (with a lot of bad luck in his start, too).
Rice, Judge, and Goldschmidt all look legit, and the Martian is showing some signs. If you plug the Martian into the fifth spot of the order, things look more interesting. Volpe just needs to head to the #9 spot. His defense is good enough to keep him in the lineup, you just can’t have him flailing away in the middle of the lineup anymore.
Jasson has to hit higher in the order, but only against RHP. His hitting against LHP is so awful, at best a work in progress. Learning at this level is a terrible thing to ask someone.
I doubt any other manager/organization would have Volpe hitting where Boone/Yankees have him.
Oh yeah, agreed, only against righties.
Honestly, I’m totally prepared to platoon him with Grisham against lefties at this point.
Very impressive outing for Volpe.
Since April 3rd 212/321/288 0hr
i am not worried about Jazz and they can carry Volpe but he needs to go down in the lineup. What are they doing?
Yeah, exactly, you can carry a good defensive shortstop, you can’t just keep batting him in the middle of the lineup.
And yes, Jazz and Belli I doubt will continue to suck. Volpe, I have no idea.
Can you really carry a guy with a career 290 OBP?
If he can hit 15/20 home runs and play gold glove shortstop. And if you don’t have anyone better.
I didn’t realize it was a day game. That’s two great games by Rodon in a row.
How long before we realize we’re stuck with a terrible bellinger for this year and next? When Stanton comes back and Volpe, jazz, wells, Stanton, Oswaldo, and belli are in the lineup – I can easily see them getting no hit. Just walk judge and goldy every time. In fact not sure why they aren’t doing that now.
The scorekeeper took back the earned run. Good job, scorekeeper!
Next time they’re getting destroyed in a Warren / Carrasco game they should try to get Ben Rice some innings at Catcher. See what he can do. If he can catch a few innings then maybe he can be a personal catcher for someone too. Escarra is a nice story but the roster would be a little bit more flexible if you’re comfortable with Ben.
Allan Winans Scranton faced 13 batters, 10 strikeouts

I’m too lazy to do the research but a theoretically playoff contending team can’t carry a defense only SS. He deserves a little more runway but not much, Peraza is probably better on D if that’s the criterion
My position has always been they made the wrong choice when allowing Volpe, not Peraza, unlimited leash in the lineup that first year. Peraza is at least an equal defender, from what I’ve seen, and his approach has always seemed more sustainable than Volpe’s. I would love to see him get a solid half season in the lineup just to see whether or not he could actually hit. To stick with Volpe after how long he’s sucked is … inexplicable.
The Orioles with Mark Belanger. But they had a better overall line up in many of those seasons, and outstanding starting pitching.
Os with Belanger and the Reds with Concepcion were the ones I was thinking of, yeah (although, of course, Concepcion could definitely hit a little).
They entered the season with a plan to have a gigantic black hole on offense for the left side of the infield and a possible black hole from the left fielder. So far it’s working exactly according to plan. Cashman is a genius
Minimum payroll players are a necessity if staying under or near the payroll tax is required while having multiple free agent contracts.
If Volpe went out for an extended period of time, would they add salary to replace him?
No, they’d go with Peraza or Waldo with DJ or Jorbit at third.
The Studio is a comedy, to me, that is actually funny not a sweet lesson in life like so may cable or streaming comedies.
