Schmidt has been awful.
In his career Schmidt has been a just OK pitcher. Two very good seasons and 3 mediocre seasons, somebody who should be a 4 or 5 on a good team.
Strong rotation coupled with 3 sub 200 hitters and one barely 200 hitter a recipe for sucks cess.
Wells has been awful, Bellinger has been awful, Chisholm is just a younger Didi.
Leaving Schmidt in, clear the bases or clear up the mess time.
