Welcome back, Clarke, you get to celebrate your return by getting ZERO run support! Hooray!
Here’s hoping Schmidt at least pitches well enough to give us something to look forward to in his future starts!
Witt and Salvy are their only two good hitters, and he walks Pasquantino to get to Salvy with a runner on first.
Not ideal!
I can live with allowing singles to their only two good hitters, but the walk was just killer.
Clay 621, Cody 512
Mr Singles, aka Aaron Judge.
TPp
Batting Volpe fifth is really a bit like wishcasting him to be good.
Wells off to a rough start, and it continues in the first inning.
I’m trusting his carrier numbers hitting right handed more than last night’s double.
Clutch Phenom
Volpe! Two run double. Keep swinging hard and you’re bound to hit one hard on occasion.
Doh! Michael Kay on Judge’s double to LF: Ripped to RF.
Wells struck. Great catch.
He’s kind of snakebit right now, but if he keeps making contact like that, it’ll all work out in the end.
Wells hits one hard, nothing to show for it.
Schmidt looks really good. Lets hope.
Martian looked terrible there.
So much for turning the corner
Looking bad against LHP. Seven pitches, 2 Ks.
Why do first pitch outs look worse than other outs?
Okay, if no more HRs but Judge hits 400. 😏 Last RHB to hit 400 was 1925, Rogers Hornsby.
Gunned down AND takes one in the chops. Tough night on the basepaths.
They practice that in ST and MMA
Do you bunt Goldy here?
Not after it was overturned, of course.
He failed to compute the gravitational differential
Three guys under the Mendoza line in the same line-up is ungood.
Judge!
Four singles and he’s a triple away.
JIDGE!
How does Jazz not steal?
What my brother just said.
Wells, you need to do better.
Jazz not running that inning was idiotic, and likely cost them an out.
If Cruz gets ahead 0-2, how does he ever NOT get the K?! You just keep throwing the splitter and they’re bound to eventually swing over it.
Impressive inning Cruz.
Oh, Jasson.
I think the Martian needs to go the Cedric Mullins route.
Do not love this Cruz move.
What is it with these guys and throwing Garcia balls?!
You can’t teach stupid.
I like that Paul calling it “New-Age baseball where you can’t take out a middle infielder” was preceded by the Stadium bumping How Soon Is Now?
Morrisseyball is the new Moneyball.
Ugh, 2-out walk after the DP.
EDIT: Now a WP.
Saved by the bell the college years.
Goddamn, nice snag.
Oof! A line drive out to end the game. Yay, win.
I think it’s fair to say this team’s defense is better than last year’s.
Yeah that seems right
On a 99 win pace. Boone will lose them games, he nearly lost them this one.
If Judge hadn’t been intentionally walked, he would for sure have hit a triple.
Hoch Ballgame over, #Yankees win. Cody Bellinger makes a great catch for the final out as the Yanks complete a sweep of the Royals … 4-3 is your final.
Kirschner catch probability 95%.
i took a little dive trying to find this and could not. the xBA on it was 430, of Jusge had been there would he have been playing over a few more steps to make it look routine?
interestingly enough, there’s a thread about people trying to find the data (which is not public) and it’s alleged that many of these great players are routine:
https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/ArPyZ7Xxk6
even if it is an expected catch, the athleticism and leather still stands out compared to some of the people the yanks have had in the field over the last few years.
Acceptable outcome on the series.
Hey Brian, if you’re able to see my email in the site settings, can you send me an email?
