  1. Whereas the Yankees got… the Mets’ John Darling. Very sweet.
    There’s always the radio feed!
All join hands around the table to call forth the spirit (not in the sense of ghost) of Mariano Duncan!

  2. Whatever, I think we all knew Boone wasn’t going to be changing the lineup after getting this far with it. I wish Chisholm either starts hitting or is replaced by Cabrera, but that’s never happening. Here’s hoping Roberts out-sucks Boone in this one!

    1. Even so, NOBODY outsucks Boone. Not a reasonable ask.
They’ll need to win the way the always win (when they win).

  3. Jon Berti was taken off the World Series roster because of a right hip flexor, Aaron Boone said. He sustained it running the bases in ALCS Game 4.

    1. Closing -110 it looks like. That’s a big move for a playoff game from -120 this afternoon, esp when it’s the only game going. Dunno if there’s sharp sentiment Flaherty’s late season decrease in velo is telling or what.

  4. Game 1: Carlos Torres (ranked 32nd of 90, 1st WS)
    Game 2: Andy Fletcher (73rd, 1st WS)
    Game 3: Mark Carlson (49th)
    Game 4: Doug Eddings (60th)
    Game 5: Mark Ripperger (18th, 1st WS)
    Game 6: Chad Fairchild (37th)
    Game 7: Todd Tichenor (24th)

    Awesome, awesome.

  5. Walk Soto and Stanton and hope Wells doesn’t close his eyes and hit a home run. I’m kind of surprised Rizzo 429/1000 isn’t hitting 5th over Jazz 143/468 for the postseason.
On second thought I’m not even slightly surprised. Boone! (As in Seinfeld saying Newman!)

    1. I think he meant one way or the other. He hit 223/644 in September to go with his 143/468 in the playoff so he earned the slot behind Soto, Judge and Stanton.

    1. Besides the umpires making themselves available (which is easy, but hey, it does matter), it is at the total discretion of the Chief Umpire and a panel of advisors, except that there is always one umpire who makes their World Series debut each World Series.

  6. Rocking an Ommegang All Hallows Treat 7.6% imperial peanut butter stout.

Gonna need to up that to about 15% if I gotta keep watching these guys flail.

    1. Judge looks like he’s in a funk. Wells doesn’t look like he has any idea where any pitch he’s seeing is.

    1. Could be really good. If NY can pull it out and run LA through its bullpen, that would be swell.

    1. I tweeted MLB. They never replied. I didn’t single out this guy rather that there were no top 10 umps in the series.

  7. Eric Hosmer This is to high level of a game for Carlos Torres to be working the plate, let alone working. He’s an awful umpire, he’s terrible to work with and hasn’t earned anything ❗️

Can’t keep missing these pitches. 0-1 versus 1-0 huge difference let alone with a guy like Juan Soto at the plate. It’s to long of a road for these teams to get here, to much on the line and we can’t have it❗️

    1. This might be the best inning of managing Boone has ever done.

I mean going to Holmes was stupid, so he still Booned it.

    1. I read that and had the same question. It’s NOT a change-up at all without a fastball to be slower than, right?

    2. Movement. And maybe theyrenot always expecting it? Eventually he HAS to throw a fastball right? And it still looks like a fastball out of the hand.

    1. I think Weaver is on par with them, but otherwise, yeah, they have an excellent bullpen, ya know? It’s not much of a shot to say that their bullpen is better.

  8. All Volpe has to do is cut the ball off like a normal fucking human being and they’re going into the 9th with a lead. Cool. Fantastic.

    Gleyber. I stand corrected.

  9. I think Weaver is good, just not as good as his results have been. How many lock down relievers do the Dodgers have left? We have Leiter??? From here it’s big Ad LA.

    1. Definitely was gonna be off the top of the wall, likely double regardless. On the one hand, robs the Yankees of a chance to leg out a triple on a defensive miscue. On the other, keeps the Yankees from doing something stupid on the basepaths and getting thrown out on a clean hit.

    1. It’s still a dumb, dumb move.
And I don’t know whether I’d pinch run for Stanton at all. Who knows how long this goes, and who else can you count on to hit? And he won’t be the lead runner anyway.

    1. amazing how these catches that a better player would make easily somehow prove he’s good

    1. On the other hand, if defensive miscues hadn’t played for the other earlier, they wouldn’t have had to bring him in now.

  10. Only insomuch as he is always scowling. Ewing was huge, Jazz is svelte.

Watching fly balls head to Soto is making me think of a certain cetacean outfielder roaming the wilds of sea world.

  11. Stupid black and white movie with the girl tied to the train tracks and smoke coming slowly, from so far away, over the trees.
What are the chances this ends well?
It was a pretty good game, though.

    1. Yeah, mind-boggling to use Nestor there, but I expected him to do something stupid to lose it and he did.

  12. Can’t bring a guy in who hasn’t pitched in months. Well, the Yankees can.

They gave this game away with awful defense and the usual shitty hitting w/RISP.

I say this Series doesn’t get back to LA. Dodgers in 5, maybe 4.

  13. I don’t remove Cole in the 7th at under 100 pitches. This forces Boone to use another pitcher. He pinch runs for Gleyber who would’ve made the play Waldo didn’t. And using Nestor who hasn’t pitched for a month over Hill who’s having a great post season

  14. Ohtani 2/18 against pitchers who throw from 1b like Hill. Pulling Cole questionable. Pinch running for Gleyber over managing. Using Nestor over Hill IDIOTIC!

  15. Dramatic and brutal ending for the Yankees, but all they can do is tip their cap and get ready to hit Yamamoto hard.
Because what else are they going to do overnight, learn fundamental baseball?

Props to Jazz for manufacturing the then-go-ahead run, and to Stanton for manufacturing the previous go-ahead run.

  16. Boone is, by far, the worst tactical manager I’ve ever seen in my time following baseball. Unless the move is obvious (bringing in your best relievers a the end of the game) he will almost always make the wrong call. They could overcome it against weaker teams, there’s no way that’s happening now. Team chemistry can’t overcome this level of ineptitude.

    1. They were a lot better, they had Jeter, Arod, Tex, Matsui and Cano in the lineup, with Posada coming off the bench. And they had Mo.
