From Joe Trezza (new name, right?):
It’s one thing for Aaron Judge to swat more homers with more ease than anyone else in baseball. When he starts robbing homers, too, that might just be unfair.
Judge remained at 51 homers throughout Monday’s series opener in the nation’s capital, but that didn’t prevent him from making an enormous impact at the center-field wall anyway. This one came with his glove, as Judge leapt to take away what would have been a game-tying homer by Andrés Chaparro in the fourth inning of New York’s 5-2 win over the Nationals.
“I was pretty pumped up about that one,” Judge said.
You know me and the Yankees getting hurt by former Yankees, that would have pissed me off a lot. Chaparro isn’t even having a particularly good season, so he’s not making me regret the Yankees giving up on him too much.
Judge’s catch gets the featured image, but Nestor had a good argument for getting the nod, as he pitched very well in this one. Mark Leiter Jr. continues his struggles. I am glad Boone is using him in low leverage situations to try to get him right. It’s rare to see Boone make actual smart decisions with his bullpen.
Smart decision, blind squirrel, etc. etc.
Nestor deserves more love lately.
in a different uniform!
Yeah. 3 in a row. 20.2 innings with one run, that’s good.
The early innings could’ve not worked out so well without a lot of help from Judge and Verdugo. They hit him hard the first three.
All true, but even so.
Mark leiter has been terrible. He reminds me of some other terrible Cashman trades going back to 2001 and Jay Witasik (highest WS ERA ever?), Andrew Heaneys and his 7.32 ERA in 2021, Jamie Garcia in 2017, I’m sure we can find others. He makes so many moves but other than getting a superstar how many of them actually work?
Kevin Youkillis, Travis Hafner, Vernon Wells, now Alex Verdugo .,.it’s quite remarkable that he keeps his job.
Less robbing homers more hitting homers
Would you object to more robbing homers more hitting homers?
(grudgingly) fine
Cole vs Corbin tonight. Wasn’t Corbin Cash’s #1 want one year? Good thing we missed out.
The Yankees will revive Corbin’s career for one night.
Jack Curry Incredible nugget on Judge from Sports Info Solutions. Since 2018, he leads the majors with 252 HRs. That’s a known fact. But Judge also leads the majors in HR robberies since then with 9! Chaparro was his latest victim on last night’s dynamic robbery
Really
::adds sweetener
It’s the shoes
Has he done both in the same game? Now that would be cool.
wow
The Yankees are really gonna have to pay this guy when he hits free agency
Another 6:45 PM start tonight, and tomorrow as well.
